"Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the
eternal rule." ( Buddha.) Beginning in 1997, the frequency of
school shootings has been increasing at an alarming rate. On
December 1, 1997, Mike Carneal walks into Heath High School in
Paducah, Kentucky and opens fire on a daily prayer group. When
the spray of bullets ceased, three young girls lay dead and five
others were wounded. Classmates claim that Carneal hung out
with people who did not believe in God and would sometimes
heckle the morning worshippers. Carneal had also been in trouble
for scratching graffiti on a wall and trying to view nude photos on
the Internet.
Just five months into 1998, the 5th school

The child would
continue to be monitored by both parents and school staff as well
as receiving counseling sessions, if needed. Parents should make
sure the child has no access to weapons at home and the school
should have a crisis counseling center in place to provide
immediate help for students. Would all of these precautions
prevent a student from killing? I feel the answer depends on each
individual situation, but if it saves just one life it is definitely worth
it.
Years ago when parents sent their children off to school
each day, they had no doubts as to their safety. Today, it can be a
terrifying thing to send a child to school. Admittedly, there has
always been some type of violence in the school yard. The class
bully pushing someone around or a couple of boys fistfighting
because of a disagreement. Violence in schools has come a long,
frightening way since those days. Rape, drugs and alcohol, and
deadly weapons are examples of what today's youth have to face in
the schoolyard. The most terrifying of these trends is the random
school shootings that have been taking place across the United
States in alarming numbers and not only do these incidents occur in
urban areas but they are becoming more
Cho poked his head in the room a couple of times and looked around before exiting and entering a different room. The first shots were heard across the hall, in the hydrology class. It sounded like a nail gun or hammer hitting concrete blocks.
Some of the most infamous acts of terror on American soil took place on numerous campuses across the nation. School shootings, like Sandy Hook and Columbine, have started to become an ordinary event seen on the news, which causes a numb reaction in the hearts of countless Americans. According to an article written by AJ Willingham and Saeed Ahmed, from CNN, “...30 deadliest shootings in the United States dating back to 1949, 18 have occurred in the last 10 years.” In all of these cases, the news will give the attacker the attention they so dearly crave and always giving the same justification “they were mentally ill”. This one phrase reflects on all of those who also are affected by mental illness, does this make them corrupt like these terrorists?
School shootings have become well known around the world due to the coverage by the media. . These shootings are a serious concern and have parents constantly concerned about their child’s safety when they are at school and also have students thinking twice about any unusual or suspicious behavior. The media appears to play a large part in school shootings and it is important to analyze the deviant behaviors of the shooters in these horrific instances and the fear they create in schools. Does the media play a large part in school shootings or does the media play a large part in the sensationalism of school shootings and the fear they create both in schools and with parents?
Schools were once treated as a haven, but between 10 years, the amount of student shootings has dramatically risen from 43 to 101. Now people think that we need to go back to the barbaric saying of ‘kill or be killed’, but there are more ways to skin a cat - and more ways of controlling this horrid situation.
In the article titled Ultimate revenge of the bullied, it’s stated that "More subtle, insidious forms of bullying are also on the rise, with text messaging and web forums allowing cowards to hide behind technology” (par.1). With the increase in people using social media, more people are starting to get bullied. An increase in bullying has caused kids to start committing heinous crimes. Lately, there has been many school shootings and that has surged a lot of conversation on possible reasons as to why they are happening. There has been research looking into why school shooters are deciding to shoot up schools and what exactly is wrong with them. In the article, Ultimate revenge of the bullied, the article goes in depth in how school shooters are made and the bad they go through that pushes them too far. Through all the research that is on school shooters most share a few things in common. School shootings are done
Gun violence in schools is becoming more common and out of control. The Freeman High School shooting was a total tragedy. Caleb Sharpe was a ongoing bully victim. I believe everything could have been prevented if he was assisted properly by the school. I feel like the school didn’t help Caleb at all. In the article it says that Sharpe’s classmates alerted the counselors, but it wasn’t clear what the school staff did in response. Classmates reported troubling signs from Caleb, saying they knew videos he posted online playing with guns. Evidence like that is clearly a cry for help. Freeman High School consist of 300 students compared to other schools who have 800+. The school have no excuses why they couldn't catch the warning signs earlier.
On April 20th, 1999, two shooters, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, entered Columbine High School and murdered thirteen people and wounded more than twenty others. In doing so the two teenagers not only hurt many families and left a community scarred forever, but they also changed the landscape of American politics, national attitudes towards gun control, and began a violent phenomenon, now known as school shootings, that would haunt America for years to come. Since that fateful day in 1999, school shootings have become common place in America. From 2013 to January of 2018, it is estimated that around “300 school shootings” have taken place in the United States (Scott par.1). This data does not include the shooting at Parkland High School, which took place on February 24th, 2018, or the shooting at Santa Fe High
Since twenty-thirteen there has been at least one hundred sixty school shootings in America, these numbers are alarming. We should feel secure sending our kids to school not fearful. A subject to controversy in America gun control, currently in debate to prevent school shootings. Unfortunately, Gun Control is not the answer to school shootings, access to mental health treatment can prevent them.
In 2015, a school shooting in Franklin, North Carolina occurred. At South Macon Elementary School, two suspects, Adam Conley and Kathryn Jeter, had told the sheriff and other investigators, “it was God’s will to shoot children and teachers”. Unfortunately, the sheriff had found the stray cat that all the students loved, dead from a gunshot wound. One of the suspects had told the sheriff, “the cat was defective”. Thankfully, no other injuries were sustained during the shooting. Attacks like this happen an average of every week throughout the United States. However, by arming teachers and having guns used for protection in schools, these occurrences would be fewer. It is less likely to happen, if the attacker knows someone on the other side is ready to fire back.
Despite our whereabouts everyone main concern is gun violence; there is always an argument concerning guns. Should be mandated or not? Is it life or death situation or plain old homicide? With that question being asked by Americans nationwide, should students be allowed to carry guns or campus? Or should we fear that they all will use it for all the wrong reasons intended?
There has been a lot of gun shootings in united states of America in the past few years. Most of the shooting was in schools which lead a lot of people in shock or injured. Why is the U.S becoming such a dangerous country to live in because we just had a shooting at a Florida high school which lead 18 students and teachers to get injured. The U.S is doing nothing about this situation which is causing hundreds of people to die each year.
Peaceful resistance to laws positively impacts a free society. Rather than having violent movements and harming citizens, it is better to peacefully resist. Once a violence is used, the resistance to the law becomes nulled. People tend to not follow a violence protester. Once a violent riot starts, chaos is everywhere. People forget what they are truly fighting for. They unconsciously run away with the fear of getting harmed and dare not to go back. A peaceful resistance on the other hand leads citizens to join and support. People are able to see what they are fighting for and their real intentions. They are able to stand and cause no problem to people passing by as they are showing their support through silent voices. Many famous activists and leaders are for nonviolence. Mahatma Gandhi, a primary leader of India’s independence
The United States is facing an epidemic of seriously violent crimes in middle schools and high schools across the country. At least fifty people have died due to a series of high school shootings. These shooting rampages have occurred across the United States in 13 cities ranging from Pennsylvania to southern Mississippi and to western California. Just when the murder rampages seem to be subsiding, another tragedy occurs. Preventive measures have been taken by the government and school systems. For instance, in 1994, Congress passed the Drug-Free Schools and Community Act, which provides for support of drug and violence prevention programs. However, these programs have not been effective in taming the ferocious dispositions of the
Conflict and differences of opinion exist in every healthy organization. Americans need to try to take control of today's youth and the violence that is and has been developing in this country for many years. Although violence will never be extinct, there are many different ways to reduce violence. Each school and student population has different ways of dealing with and helping to curb the need for violence in schools.
