Science Photography

Science is important to learn and study because it helps up to understand how things are created and function in the world. Events that happen in the natural world are explained based off of observation and experience.

It tells us how everything in our ecosystem and how things interact with us. Science tells humans how we can survive and it gives us a description of mostly everything surrounding us. Science will help Google on how to build the campus labs. Science is what helps Google configure better servers and network switches.

A reoccurring topic of the essays, concerning photography, discussed during the course is the future of professional photographers/photojournalists. Some believe that the easily accessible spread of amateur photography can and has put a strain on the works of professionals. However, with magazines such as National Geographic still in print after over a century, it raises some questions. Though the spread of information, and thus photography, has increased the platforms and need for professional photographers and photojournalists still exists.

Sense the invention of the camera in 1826 photography has been used to document everything from family portraits, social injustice, sporting events, world news, expressions of joy and sorrow, and hundreds of monumental moments. The camera has given man the power to reveal the truth visually. Throughout history photographs have made enormous impacts on social consciousness and ultimately shaped public opinion on many pressing issues in society. Although photography is often considered a casual pastime, the invention of the camera has contributed to many aspects of history, science, and other important pieces of todays world.

One way photography is a helpful device is its use in social justice. Oxforddictionaries.com defines social justice as, “Justice in terms of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within a society." A large portion of the Earth’s population is living in poverty, but there are many people who don’t know what living in poverty looks like. Also, there are a lot of people that will never travel and explore other cultures of the world, which is where photography comes in hand. The helpful thing about photography is that it can allow someone to feel emotion or re-live a moment captured in time just by viewing an image. There is a very common phrase that says, “Seeing is believing”, which is why a photo is much more useful than a description. Images can create a visual for a person to better relate to a situation or to show a person something they could never imagine. Photography is a word derived from the Greek words photos light and to draw. A scientist called Sir John F.W. Herschel, which was in 1839, first used the word. It was a method which was all about recording images by using light or radiation on a sensitive material. The first known camera was created by Alhazen also known as who lived around 100AD he invented the first pinhole camera this camera was used to capture the movement of the sun. Photography was explained to be the science and art of documenting photographs by capturing light on a light sensitive material which included film or an electronic sensor. Light could be reflected from objects which could expose a chemical or electronic material during a timed exposure which is typically used through a camera which can store the information chemically or electronically. Firstly, it captures the beauty of arts, people, and nature. In fact, it captures the soul of every living creature that escapes the people’s naked eye, permeating the core of their hearts. It enlivens prosaic sceneries and environs. That being said, photography makes people see the beauty and magnificence of God’s creation. This world is such a beautiful dwelling, and it just takes lenses to show it to the people who have the deepest appreciation of arts and beauty of nature, and even to those who have not grasped yet how stunning

On March 26, 2014 I visited a one artist photography exhibition held in the Thomas F. Riley terminal at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, California. This exhibition featured photography by Kevin Warn. The type of work on display varied from black and white and color prints to very large prints, 16x20 or larger and smaller 8x10 prints. Most of the photos were printed on canvas and the others did not mention the process that was used. Photographer Kevin Warn is a Wedding and Life Portraiture photographer. His background includes photojournalism, high fashion photography, wedding photography, portraiture, as well as stock photography. He is a locally and internationally published photographer and is a resident of Fullerton, California.

The photograph of John Smith delivers the interaction of light with the surfaces through its reflection, absorption and dispersion. The natural environment within the photograph maximises the qualities of light and surfaces. The sunlight is working effectively to visualise surroundings and almost generates a highly luminous surface. The reflection, absorption and dispersion of light represented within the photograph are derived from scientific background ranging from creation of rainbows to frequency of light waves. These general scientific evidence provides understanding of the interaction of light with surfaces portrayed in the photograph.

The objectives of this lab are to learn how to interpret and depict landforms using air photos, topographic maps, and geologic maps. In geology, maps have many functions. It is essential to be able to read and understand a map (paper or digital) while in the field. Geologic maps contain more information than common highway maps. Features such as faults, folds, rock formation, strike and dip, elevation and a variety of other information can be found, depending on the type of map.

To understand what makes a good scientist, one must define science. Science as quoted by world famous evolutionary biologist, Edward Wilson, “organized, testable knowledge of the real world, of everything around as well as ourselves, as opposed to the endlessly varied beliefs people hold from myth and superstition,”(55). Relatively, it wasn’t that long ago when humans believed that the earth was flat and the sun revolves around earth. Through the process of acquiring knowledge and testing hypothesis, humans have made countless advances in the science and technology world.

Science has and always will play a constant important role in my daily life, maybe more so than others. Science for me has not always been my strong subject in school and I very easily tend to get intimidated. But when I look at my daily life and realize how much science plays a role in it, I cannot help but smile. Science is not at all bad, it has allowed me to do many things every day, even if I do not take the time to stop and think about it, it is there. From the way the microwave heats up the water for my coffee every morning or the way my body digests the food I eat every meal and makes

It is human nature to question our reality in an attempt to better understand our surroundings. Science, for me, is the devotion to better understand the world we live in, rooted in the natural and inevitable questions that all humans ask themselves. I believe that by answering the most fundamental questions, the potential technological advancements are much greater than that generated by applied engineering.
