The Self-Directed Search and the O*NET Interest Profiler are both tools that help people learn more about themselves and various career aspects. The O*NET Interest Profiler is an online tool that after a few clicks and searches can be accessed by anyone with the internet. The SDS is, from what I understand, is not as easily accessible over the internet. After taking both assessments, I enjoyed learning information about myself that I gathered from them. I thought both assessments were interesting to take. I assumed that I would enjoy the O*Net because it is more computerized, just a few clicks and you’re done. The answers are all computed almost instantaneously, complete with a bar graph, bolded results and little synopsis of all of the traits. …show more content…
My Summary Code was SEC, which stands for Social, Enterprising and Conventional. In the first activity “Daydreams,” I had written down eight careers: counselor, journalism teacher, librarian, teller, marine biologist, journalist, anchor and bartender. I must relay that the career of marine biologist was quickly scratched off my career goals when I was younger for the simple fact that I could not swim, even after three failed attempts at swimming lessons. I was very ecstatic to learn after taking the SDS my results were a 100% accurate. It was interesting finding the careers I had wanted from the various arrangements of “SEC,” such as: academic advisor, school guidance counselor, head teller, bartender, library director, director of student affairs, radio director, and reporter.be After taking both the O*NET and the SDS I will definitely be putting these tools in my counselor toolbox. I am also going to be looking into using the SDS for my students when we explore career options. I think both assessments are good for students/clients to learn more about themselves and current or future career paths. I think the O*NET is better geared for a quick response and the SDS is a more in depth assessment. I think, like this assignment, I would have the student/client take both assessments for self-exploration
Unit 401 – Understanding the Principles and Practice of Internally Assuring the Quality of Assessment
After taking the FOCUS 2 quizzes and completing the worksheet, I learned about a few of my career options. I have already chosen a degree plan, and know what direction I want to go in, but I am not sure of the specifics. The FOCUS 2 Career Exploration Worksheet helped me to discover some of those specifics.
I believe that this assessment is a valuable tool in the field of career counseling because it helps the counselors to have more information about the students and their overall wellbeing. By discussing each element counselors can identify the reasons for their struggles as they share their stories. It can help counselors to provide resources and information to improve their overall wellbeing especially with the career wellbeing. With this information, career counselors can refer them to different departments if more help is
When I first learned we were going to be writing an I-Search paper in English, I was excited. I liked the idea that we got to pick our own topic and that it could be anything we chose it to be. However, I didn’t realize at the time how hard it actually was to find the “perfect” topic. I had many topics in mind, but I didn’t realize all the time you had to put into finding a good topic. The first thing we did in class to help us find our topic was filling out a personal web. This personal web was mainly any aspect in your life that is important to you or interests you. We discussed our webs with a partner, and they attempted to find the topics that we mentioned more than once or something they thought would be a good topic. Nothing really clicked for me in my personal web. I did have some ideas for my topic, but they just didn’t seem interesting. A lot of my classmates found a topic when they filled in their web, but I still wasn’t sure. My partner and I found that a lot of the topics in my web were related to children and the medical field, but I couldn’t think of a topic that tied them both together and would suit me.
Focus 2 Assessments: After taking the assessments, I realized that I still have some career planning to do. Also, I do very well in english, business, and foreign language classes. My work interest resulted in “enterprising” meaning I often use my skills to influence others. My values are helping others, income, and prestige. My personality type is attracted to occupations where I can combine my abilities to make careful
Stephen’s could have saved a lot of time in researching the assessment if I had watched prior to assessing. The library offers a more consolidated resource available to us without having to filter through unnecessary resources. In the future, I will use their resources first before treading through cyber world.
The My Plan (2016) assessments is a program that examines your career interest. This is determined by taking several assessments on your personality, interests, skills, and values. Based on my personality report, it indicated my personality type is ESTJ ( extroverted, sensor, thinker and judger). Some words used to describe me based on my personality report are social, patient, thoughtful and in control. On the My Plan (2016) my personal interest top two were investigative and social. My Plan (2016) concluded that I would work well with others and like communicating with others. Ultimately, I would agree that these results are correct and correlate well with the career I am going to pursue as a dental hygienist. Prior to taking the My Plan (2016) assessments I was undecided about wether I wanted to pursue my career as a dental hygienist or a registered nurse. Now I am confident about what I choose to do, because it is something that I have always been interested about and it is something I would actually enjoy doing.
The self-assessment shows you what areas you are strong in and what areas need some improvement. When I took the self-assessment, I learned that I am a straight forward person who has good intentions and always tries to handle issues ethically. The self-assessment showed me my own strengths and weaknesses within ethical decision making. I learned that I shine in leadership and that improving the community health status is important to me. I aim to always do what is right and my own personal ethics have helped me through this.
When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? Did you want to be the typical dreamer: a firefighter, a police officer, or an astronaut? Taking the interest survey Using O*Net assessment has helped me understand the occupations that I can be when I become an adult. The O*Net Interest Profiler can help you find out what your interests are and how they relate to the world of work. You can find out what you like to do. The process of doing the O*Net Interest Profiler helped me learn about my interest, learn about my possible career paths, and assisted me in preparing a business capstone project.
Until now, I am doing my work for the I-Search assignment thoroughly and effectively. The first progress I made in the inquiry process is formulating four interesting topics for my I-Search questions. First, I found four questions that I felt was fascinating to me. The only challenge I am facing while formulating these questions are figuring out whether they are debatable. If they are not debatable, I can’t use it in the argumentative essay that we have to write in the future. One of the challenges that I have overcome is choosing an I-Search Question for the essay. The four questions that were engrossing to me includes is there a way to time travel, why is racism a common issue, are wizards and magicians real, and should students be required
My Personal Assessment gives the results of several self-assessments that I took along with a brief summary of these results. These assessments include: TELSA Self Assessment, Keirsey

I can say that I agree with the result from the O*NET Interest Profiler in all areas. My scores were high in the areas of conventional interest, social interest, and artistic interest. I would have thought that my highest score would have been in the category of artistic interests being that I am a song writer and music producer, violinist, and artist. It was fun exercise to work through which help to give me a little bit more understanding about things that interest me most career wise. I currently work as a manager in retail but I’m unitizing the money from my job to work on my true passion in life which is music. The results of the Interest Profiler does match the characteristics that I employ in my career field which is management. Key
Career assessments are very beneficial when an individual is trying to determine what career path they may be wanting to take. Sometimes new information will become apparent and other times information that is already known to that individual will just be simply solidified. It is important to answer the questions as accurately to oneself as possible. My personal results only reassured me of what I already knew.
During the course of the quarter, I feel that I have progressed somewhat. I've gained a lot of knowledge on rhetorical strategies and how to present arguments effectively. In the writings I have written, I feel that each writing works towards meeting the course goals. Logos, ethos, and pathos were strategies and ideas we were introduced to (if not already in the past) and were built upon throughout the quarter. The knowledge gained over the course of the quarter weren't only those three types of appeals. Rhetorical strategies like proposals helped reinforce the course and using rhetorical analysis in different situations have become easier throughout the quarter. I believe that I have made sufficient progress towards becoming a better
