The Self-Directed Search and the O*NET Interest Profiler are both tools that help people learn more about themselves and various career aspects. The O*NET Interest Profiler is an online tool that after a few clicks and searches can be accessed by anyone with the internet. The SDS is, from what I understand, is not as easily accessible over the internet. After taking both assessments, I enjoyed learning information about myself that I gathered from them. I thought both assessments were interesting to take. I assumed that I would enjoy the O*Net because it is more computerized, just a few clicks and you’re done. My Summary Code was SEC, which stands for Social, Enterprising and Conventional. In the first activity “Daydreams,” I had written down eight careers: counselor, journalism teacher, librarian, teller, marine biologist, journalist, anchor and bartender. I must relay that the career of marine biologist was quickly scratched off my career goals when I was younger for the simple fact that I could not swim, even after three failed attempts at swimming lessons. I was very ecstatic to learn after taking the SDS my results were a 100% accurate. It was interesting finding the careers I had wanted from the various arrangements of “SEC,” such as: academic advisor, school guidance counselor, head teller, bartender, library director, director of student affairs, radio director, and reporter.be After taking both the O*NET and the SDS I will definitely be putting these tools in my counselor toolbox. I am also going to be looking into using the SDS for my students when we explore career options. I think both assessments are good for students/clients to learn more about themselves and current or future career paths. I think the O*NET is better geared for a quick response and the SDS is a more in depth assessment. I think, like this assignment, I would have the student/client take both assessments for self-exploration
