Now, in program management, my technical skills have allowed me to quickly grasp concepts and I am constantly improving my soft skills through management of varying teams to improve our products. However, I find I am not as knowledgeable when discussing future market strategies, management structures, or best leadership
As a well-rounded student, the RWU Honors Program appeals to me both academically and socially. Through hands-on experience, collaboration with others, and overcoming challenges, students like me find a way to face the world directly and accept the challenges that lay in front of them. Rich with history and tradition, Roger Williams puts their students in the forefront, expecting them to take on all the resources the institution has to offer.
Soft-skills guide us to the path where we want to head toward, and help become a better member of the future business world. The soft-skills learning triangle developed by Dr. Jean Adams illustrates the interactivity among the three factors: the learner, context, and content. Dr. Jean Adams pointed out that the soft-skills cannot only be developed by the “book learning”, but also a real-life experience should come along to actually apply the skills and learn further from it. Thus, seeking for both the theory and the real-life experience is
I’m writing for a request of a reconsideration of my final grade (EDU 600 Professor Dresser). The last couple of months have been extremely difficult on my personal life. On April 20th my husband passed away and the week before graduation my farther fell ill. He suffered with violent seizures; I slept in the hospital (in a chair next to his bed) the week prior to graduation, only to leave to attend the ceremony. Four months to the day of my husbands passing my father passed but not without complications (Two intubation, tracheostomy and peg feeding tube). As his health care proxy I was left to make extremely hard decisions for his life.
The leadership project in course EL-7235, Workforce and Economic Development consisted of identifying a problem, trend, issue or innovation related to the workforce and economic development that affects community colleges. The problem, trend, issue or innovation was to be discussed in detailed, connecting to theory, policy and or practice used in the community college setting to address the selected topic. In addition, conducting a comprehensive review of literature concerning the topic and enhancing the review of literature with field research at a community college were included. Moreover, a presentation of the problem, trend, issue, or innovation research combined with the theory, policy, or findings on how research dealt
Three goals that I have accomplish while being in ENGWR50. Being able to analyze assignments, and being able to address them. I have learned these lessons with the reading "Fixed Vs Growth Mindsets" and the FWA1 and FWA2. The workshops has also help me to understand how to revise an essay as well as understanding how to distinguish between facts in opinions. reading the articles " True Grit" and, " 100% Is Over Rated", writting the summaries on these articles has taught me how to analyze reading while being able to create strategies for addressing them. this class has help me to become a better writer. it has prepared me for ENGWR101 now I know what is expected of me when writing a college paper. This course will follow me to my next class
Within the due course of a lifetime, it seldom becomes apparent that an opportunity, which has the potential to metamorphose oneself, comes just close enough to grasp. It is in the present which I find myself within this position, similar to the prior-mentioned situation, of dreamily grasping at Westminster’s Honors Program for the hope of my own metamorphosis. For I know that, if I am to become a philosopher in the far future, which is my hope and goal, this program will aid me by introducing the rigor of my desired field at such an early stage of my scholarly development. Au contraire, referring to the theoretical benefit of this program towards my future, I believe that the Honors Program will find it quite advantageous to have me due to my vast knowledge, relative to other incoming Freshmen, of critical thinking, classical debate and logic. And it is not for pride that I say this, but, rather, it is because of my intensive independent
A question frequently heard among students, from elementary to college, is “when will I need to know this?”. No matter the class, there is always someone who believes the course does not pertain to them and is a waste of time and money. Myself, I remember thinking that very same thing of AP Calculus and later Statistics. As someone aspiring for a career in the health sciences, I assumed that a comprehensive education in the various math forms was superfluous. And though I love history, English, and art, I caught myself wondering if I would ever utilize such knowledge beyond that class. What I have realized, however, is that all knowledge gained by an individual can only work to their advantage. Furthermore, I believe that liberal arts courses
Community colleges enable people to enter the labor force, transfer to a university, and/or obtain the knowledge needed to take on more responsibilities in their current field. A teacher lecture series gives professors the opportunity to engage with people from the community and share their knowledge on a topic of their choice. The purpose of this report is to describe how I can evaluate the teacher series program at Los Angeles Mission College (LAMC).
I believe that I already possess many of the “soft skills.” I have acquired many of these skills through my experiences in 4-H and Boy Scouts. I believe that I possess the verbal communication skills, decision making/problem solving skills, the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work, the ability to obtain and process information, the ability to analyze quantitative data, proficiency with computer software programs, and the ability to create and/or edit written reports.
I am planning to take advantage or the dual degree program available at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). have applied and have been accepted into the University of California, Irvine’s Criminology Law & Society (CLS) PhD. program. Part of the reason I was so interested in continuing my education at UCI was the enthusiasm with which the university promotes interdisciplinary collaborations with other disciplines and with community organizations. Previously as an undergraduate at UCI, I had worked researching the issue of domestic violence (DV) in collaboration with the departments of Psychology & Social Behavior (PSB), CLS, and with the Orange County Family Justice Center. In this same spirit, I hope to continue my educational journey.
Receiving an education via an online course is one that has begun with many challenges. I have come from having no knowledge of researching information to feel like I have journeyed a long way finding the confidence to research pertinent and quality resources. Through this particular unit I have been given the implements to develop a sound knowledge of online group collaborations and the programs to allow the communication to take place.
A positive impact on self is that I get to study the rugby world cup in class, this is a positive impact on myself as I get to learn more about rugby as a sport and I get to learn about how the competition works. When learning more about rugby as a sport it will influence me to be more interested in the game and be able to talk with friends and family with how the All Blacks are going. Since I will become more interested in the game I may go and watch our first 15 in the weekend. This will be good as I will be able to meet new people and also have comradery between people who are also interested in rugby.
The dilemma between eight week versus sixteen week courses is one I struggled with in choosing my courses for Fall as well as Spring. I did not know if it would be better to take two eight week courses in different sessions or two sixteen week courses together. I knew the eight week format would be condensed and move faster but it would allow me the option to focus on one course at a time. I also considered that the sixteen week courses may be more manageable if the work was more spread out. For Fall, I ended up taking only one course as I needed to get back in the routine of doing schoolwork and wasn't sure how it would balance in with my other obligations. When it came time to register for Spring, I knew I wanted to take two courses at a time, but I wasn't sure which combination would be best. I considered the pacing of this course and felt that I would not have absorbed as much of the material if I had taken the course in an eight week format. I also felt that the pacing worked well with my other obligations and allowed me flexibility.
Paraphrasing a quote from Peggy Klaus, Author, and Career Coach, “Technical skills may get you the interview, but soft skills will make or break your career”. In the short time that I’ve been with Bethel, I have gained some valuable “soft” skills that I have already been able to apply to my professional career.
I’ve learned a lot of useful tips from this semester in ENG 201. English has never been my strong suit nor has it been my favorite class. However this college course has changed my point of view of the subject. Prior coming into college I viewed English as a useless class because I’ve already knew the basics: how to talk, read and write essays. Today I view English as an important class. It helped me in other courses that involved writing, such as World Civilization and Communications, because it allowed me to practice my skills. In my world civilization exams I had to write essays. This course helped me write an impactful essay. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that almost all of my exam scores were in the 90s, usually I do poorly in the
