She uses the compassion of the schools staff members to strengthen her argument that schools are there to help the students not just teach them.

She is also practicing as a counselor in private counseling for people whenever she is off the clock at work. The typical cases/processes she deals with on a day to day basis is just working with students with whatever they may be struggling with or need help with at a certain moment in time.

The student assessed is a fourth grade caucasian female. She is nine years and ten months old and is the youngest, only girl of three siblings. Her brothers are in high school and junior high. This is her second year in our school district, she attended a private Christian school from kindergarten through second grade. Her mother is a first grade teacher in our district and father is a diesel mechanic, both parents live at home and are active in her school life. She has a love for creating and has shown this in her school work as well as her non school activities. She is constantly creating fashion items from random household objects, is writing her own stories, and videoing her daily life as well as creating songs and jingles to narrative her thoughts. She has a natural drive to entertain people and is very focused on improving her skills as a creator, fashion designer, writer, and future youtube entertainer all of these reasons are why she was chose to be evaluated.

The mental health professional I interviewed was Carol McClelland of Freedom House Recovery Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Carol has worked with Freedom House for a year as the directory of outpatient services and is licensed as a LPC, LPCS, LCAS, CCS, and MA. Carol’s job requires her to be responsible for the direct oversight of all clinical operations and clinical integrity for outpatient services at Freedom House. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm, along with a crisis and detox center that is available for contact 24/7. Carol has plenty of experience in the mental health field, such as working as a dual diagnosis/substance abuse outpatient therapist, working with the severely mentally ill, working as a criminal justice outpatient therapist, and also working in a methadone clinic. She chose this career after her experiences in working with mental health, and her extensive education in psychology and counseling. Carol stated that outpatient services was the most interesting out of her job experiences, so when she was offered the job at Freedom House, she accepted.

For my informational interview I interviewed Hasty Elementary School Counselor Candace Thurman. Mrs. Thurman earned her B.A. in Psychology from Salem College and a MA Ed.S in Mental Health Counseling from Gardner Webb University. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed School Counselor. Her maternal grandfather suffered from mental illness and was homeless. Seeing the impact his condition had on him as well as her family compelled her to choose a career in mental health. Mrs. Thurman worked in the middle school setting for 11 years. This year is her first year in an elementary school.

Sexual orientation is “the clear, persistent desire of a person for affiliation with one sex rather than the other”, otherwise known as sexual preference. (http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com) Prejudice against lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transsexuals (otherwise known as LGBT people) remain widespread in American society. LGBT people have always been a target for discrimination. Like other forms of prejudice, this discrimination is based on a hostile attitude toward a specific group and in this case minority. She also realized that being in a classroom all day was not for her. When talking to Mrs. Cruthirds you could clearly see she loved her job and was filled with so many stories about her job. She seemed excited when talking about what she has done and still doing and has been encouraging to me. She said that she believes that children generally do not care what you think until they know and think that you care about them. This meaning that she is working to show them that she cares so in turn they will care about themselves and the future too. She does what every counselor does and that instills hope by showing you care. I like her belief or theory on this. I want to be able to show children that I care about them and for them to know and believe that they have someone that cares about them. I never realized until working in the school how many kids feel like no one cares about them and when they realize someone does you can see the light in their eyes. Mrs. Cruthirds talked about seeing the change in students as she began working with them. She said that students fall to peer pressure most of the time, so when you start working in groups with them or with their class as a whole you can see their thoughts changing on certain topics along with behaviors. The therapeutic skill that she uses most with her student is keeping in touch with them. Even when their problem has been solved she will call them in just to check in and remind them that she is always there to talk if

I have a passion for helping children and an interest in pursuing school social work, I decided to interview my mother’s co-worker, Belle Walker. Belle is an exceptional children’s (EC) social worker for Union County Public Schools and works directly with students and families who need assistance finding resources in order for them to succeed in the classroom. Belle is a very passionate person and loves her work. During her undergraduate, she held an internship at a transitional homeless shelter working with families. As she attended graduate school in Illinois, Belle worked night shifts in a domestic violence shelter as a counselor. After graduate school, she decided to move back to Charlotte and found a job working with A Child’s Place

Does the phrase “That’s what she said.” sound familiar? The phrase is from the popular hit television series The Office. The guy behind this popular quote is none other than Dunder Mifflin’s Michael Scott. This quote is not only inappropriate but it is also a form of sexual harassment and Michael Scott is the king of sexual harassment. Unfortunately sexual harassment is a problem that is occurring in the workplace. In another popular movie, Horrible Bosses, sexual harassment is one of the main points in the story. The best example of this is when Charlie Day’s boss, Jennifer Anniston, constantly makes sexual gestures and inappropriate statements at him. However, in The Office and Horrible Bosses, sexual harassment is taken to an extreme. What is unfortunate about sexual harassment is that most people do not realize that it is illegal in the workplace. However, it is possible that a few comments slip out every now and then but they should not be taken lightly. Unfortunately in these situations, there is nothing done to prevent it in the workplace, which I have decided to look into the problem of preventing sexual harassment in the workplace.

It seems to me that Julie Landsman doesn’t actually see these kids as bad kids, just as kids that have done not so good things. She sees them as kids that may have had some troubles and are trying to get through their lives. She has many kids in her READ Program. Julie Landsman is a very patient person, if I had her job there is no way I would not be able to scream at the kids once in a while. All of the kids that go to the school that Julie Landsman teaches at are kids that either got kicked out of their other high schools, or middle schools, for not listening, getting into fights, or even back talking a teacher. As my research mentor, Dr. Cormier provided guidance on how to improve on my professional communication, writing and presenting skills. I would later use these skills and the knowledge I learned while working on the project in my internship at the Governor’s Office of Adoption and Child Protection (OACP). It was this experience in fact, that I was able to use to connect with a professional that became a partner of the OACP on the 30 Days of Amazing Children initiative. The initiative I worked on as an intern. The initiative was a statewide adoption campaign, that promoted the adoption of Florida’s foster children. The professional who I was able to develop a connection with, ran the local Children’s Medical Services (CMS) office, and her focus and interest were on mental health disorders. By being able to chat briefly with her on the subject, I was able to open the waters to the OACP’s proposal of having the CMS offices participate in the initiative by showcasing children with severe medical

The school and public health nurses role is to provide anyone with help towards there normal issues or sexual orientation issues, they provide advice towards sexuality and will influence a positive way to go towards sexuality. They could also give you advice on where to go if you think you have an sti or need more professional help. The nurses will assist you by giving you advice and help, to suit your issue and its situation, this lets you know that there are always positive choices available and you can always go to someone for help. They will be discreet and you won't need to worry about them telling anyone else, they are there to help.

When starting this project, I was not sure who I wanted to interview, which field of social work, I wanted to know more first-hand information about. I thought about interviewing a school social worker, or a non-profit management social worker. I eventually decided that I would like to learn about non-profit management because I have not had much knowledge on that concertation.
