Abstract of Sleep Deprivation
Sleep deprivation can cause many problems in life; from social to a work surrounding and being able to function in the setting can really affect your choices. It makes decisions for you and with the person not being in the right state of mind; they would do something in a certain situation that if they were well rested and react to it in a better manner. It’s hard to concentrate when your mind drifts and your focus becomes irrelevant and your brain shuts down to the world. You’re basically running on fumes that can’t be refilled when you have duties to attend to and your sleeping order has been cut short to responsibilities or the work order has been pushed to the limit of no return in certain situations. I would like to look into this disease and see the true and dominating affects it carries and how it’s hard to adjust back to the pattern where you become more sane and aware to society.
We take sleep for granted so much, where most of the time we would like to abandon it as much as we can in our lives to accomplish a goal or have a good time, when in the long run we damaging our most precious time that we can never make up. It should be taken as a privilege and almost and honor when we our able to close our eyes and wake up to a new day and within the hours of a day complete as much as we can so we can keep the routine going. It can be easier said than done most of the time for people and I know that I am one of them. We have to cram assignments and chores that need to be done until the last second, because most of us procrastinate in the process. When we had an assignment about this topic I was fascinated and could relate to it in many ways. Then, recently I had a family death because of sleep deprivation and I definitely knew that this would be the topic I would like to pursue and research about. I will be going over the many ways sleep deprivation can affect the body, personality, and how you can either prevent or overcome the disease. It’s a silent epidemic that seems to continue to get slept on, but that’s why I would like to bring recognition
Despite the fact that deprivation of sleep has negative impacts, individuals still continue to deprive themselves of sleep. Many claim that they can just make it up tomorrow night and sleep the extra two hours they did not get. However, this is only adding more and more to a sleep debt. This debt will continue to grow and grow until it is paid off. Morgan Manella in the article “Study: A Third of U.S. Adults Don’t Get Enough Sleep” argues that sleep deprivation can have a negative effect in someone’s health. Manella supports her argument by presenting statistics that shows how adults that don’t enough sleep have chronic conditions. The author’s purpose is to raise awareness so that people will sleep more often and have a better health condition.
Sleep is a beautiful thing, but people do not get enough of it. It is a time for the body to rejuvenate and process the events of the day. Sleeping is something that we seek out. Getting the recommended amount of sleep allows our body to function properly the next day. Without it, there could be detrimental consequences. The National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke says that without sleep, neurons could be “polluted with byproducts”. In severe cases, people who get very little sleep often experience mood swings, hallucinations and cells do not continue to reproduce.
Sleep is a beneficial necessity, both from a scientific and psychological standpoint, improving both mental and physical health. It plays an essential role in our growth and development as human beings. During sleep, our brains are growing and preparing for the day ahead so that we may be productive and attentive in every daily task. Without the recommended minimum of eight hours of sleep each night, people get agitated, distracted easily, gain health problems, make bad decisions, and acquire feelings of sadness and depression. Success in life is typically measured by the result of what is accomplished during the waking hours. The degree of effectiveness of those hours however, depend on effective rest. “Sleep is integral to the health and well-being of all people” (Wells 233). Sleep is simply defined as the body’s rest cycle – a time to recharge. The widely accepted metric for normal or sufficient sleep is about 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. When this metric is not met, either through total sleep loss or accumulated sleep debt, the effect can be dire, “Sleep deprivation results in poor memorizing, schematic thinking, which yields wrong decisions, and emotional disturbances such as deteriorated interpersonal responses and increased aggressiveness” (Orzeł-Gryglewska 95). Sleep deprivation hinders the abilities of the mind, harms the body, and shortens length of life.

Most people do not realize the importance of sleep or even realize that it is needed to survive. Many people experience sleep deprivation; however it is commonly seen in college students. Irregular sleeping patterns tend to occur in students, which can later lead to long-term effects.
What do the effects of sleep deprivation have on people? When a person does not get enough sleep, he or she is depriving his or her body of something that it needs. A delightful sleep is one of the most satisfying human experiences with a role to play in supporting a good mood and cognitive acuity as well as in promoting physiologic balance and resilience (Chittora, Jain and Suhalka). People think because they get an insufficient number of hours of sleep, they will not have an emotional impact by it. Sleep is a required need for peoples’ day to day life to be able to perform and stay healthy emotionally and physically. The effects of sleep deprivation are an issue because it affects mood, performance, and health.

Sleep deprivation is the most widely recognized rest issue in America and College Students. Understudies dropout rate and instructional level is dropping in the fact that they don't get much rest. Rest is vital to our wellbeing, yet its influencing understudy's wellbeing the most. Being a college student we don’t have our personal alarm clock anymore, so we tend to oversleep or don’t sleep at all. I can affirm on the grounds that being all alone I have this same issue. I hear and see the influence it has on understudies day by day and at times battle with it myself. Sleep Deprivation is created by society's weights to succeed, which prompts numerous ailments and reductions in scholarly accomplishment in undergrads.

Sleep deprivation is a condition that occurs when one fails to get enough sleep. Some of the causes of sleep deprivation include environmental factors, psychiatric issues, anxiety, hormonal imbalances and other medical conditions. When the human body is deprived of quality sleep, the person suffers some short term effects, and if the situation persists, they translate to long-term health issues. The first effect of sleep deprivation is reduced performance. Lack of sleep reduces the level of an individual’s performance. It lowers their level of activity and makes the less
