The vast and versatile syllabi of engineering strongly developed my conceptual understanding of the subjects but I still had the feeling of something incomplete. In the third year of my studies, we had a subject called Computer Oriented Numerical Methods, which used programming to solve mathematical programs using MATLAB. I was surprised by the pace of which I picked up programming concepts and applied it to solve equations. Studying at University of Virginia was my first time living by myself in a foreign country. Turning to math seemed an easy choice for me because I had been passionate about math since elementary school. I started to learn Olympic Mathematics in second grade and enjoyed the challenging topics. I was soon able to learn by myself with the help of training in logical thinking. When I was forced to stay at home for a whole school year due to a heart problem, I read the textbooks on my own and passed the final exams so that I could continue with my class the next year. In fifth grade, I was able to understand abstract concepts such as linear equations and use x and y to represent unknown variables. Winning numerous Olympic Mathematics competitions awards got me into the best middle school and high school in Beijing, where I continued to pursue my affection in Olympic Mathematics. I received the medals of school winner and honor roll of distinction in AMC 12 and went further to AIME due to my outstanding

There is an old paradigm that says, "To stay where you are, keep running". Today I realize how true it is because unless we keep track of the changes and advances being made we will be considered pariah. As I stand at the threshold of completing my undergraduate study, after carefully contemplating the various career options open to me I have decided to go in for graduate study that calls for personal commitment in fulfilling the crafts of independent research and dedicated involvement. In turn, I shall get intellectual satisfaction and gratification of becoming a contributor of knowledge with research, and the greater personal rewards of memory and discovery. Now, on the verge of completion of my Under-Graduate Studies, I realize that my present knowledge would not suffice. I feel that unless one is erudite in his field, one cannot be fully satisfied.

Data science, as an illustrious application in Statistics, is my direction in career. The four-year study in applied math motivates me to take the challenge of pursuing a master's degree in statistics. In addition, my aspiration to become a professional data analyst also gives the graduate study an absolute necessity.

The evolution of technology has made the life easier .However, the complete result can be achieved only when technology is made the best use of it.Technology is not only used in the IT industries but, it has become the part and parcel of everybody’s life. In 21st century, this can be realized through the way we are using technology. We have mobile applications which is almost able to do everything that we ask for. We can pay our bills online, book a flight ticket, take online classes anywhere in the world, talk to friends and family from long distances etc.

Basic courses like Computer Programming, Principle of Programming Language, Object Oriented Programming laid the foundation for me to cultivate an advanced knowledge in the field. Having a strong foundation helped me in coping up with highly technical and challenging courses such as Computer Architecture, Compiler Construction and so on.
