Statement of Purpose Applying for M.S. in Statistics Program Studying at University of Virginia was my first time living by myself in a foreign country. Turning to math seemed an easy choice for me because I had been passionate about math since elementary school. I started to learn Olympic Mathematics in second grade and enjoyed the challenging topics. I was soon able to learn by myself with the help of training in logical thinking. When I was forced to stay at home for a whole school year due to a heart problem, I read the textbooks on my own and passed the final exams so that I could continue with my class the next year. In fifth grade, I was able to understand abstract concepts such as linear equations and use x and y to represent unknown variables. Winning numerous Olympic Mathematics competitions awards got me into the best middle school and high school in Beijing, where I continued to pursue my affection in Olympic Mathematics. I received the medals of school winner and honor roll of distinction in AMC 12 and went further to AIME due to my outstanding …show more content…
I found a famous psychotherapist that I enjoyed working with and started my internship at her clinic. After learning different skills in therapy and attending seminars in which therapists and patients discuss their experiences and feelings, I soon became an assistant psychotherapist. I administered questionnaires to incoming patients and analyzed the collected data. In addition, I conducted regular psychotherapy seminars with a leading psychotherapist. While these valuable trainings and experience sharpened my skills in communication, leadership and many other aspects, I kept exploring myself and realized that I still have passion about statistics. Therefore, I decided to pursue a career combining my interest in statistics and psychology, neither of which are separable from
I am Andrew Soebagio, from Indonesia. I’ve been a student at North for about a year and a half now. I’m planning to graduate from North this upcoming fall, with an AS degree. A major that I have in mind is Petroleum Engineering; hopefully this plan will stick with me till I graduate.
It is my aspiration to develop software and products that meets the needs of those who use them. When you take a look at the makeup of the tech industry professionals, it is common knowledge that there is a substantial gap in terms of gender and race. As a result, the products and applications created for social, business, or personal purposes created with a male Eurocentric type mindset. One basic idea of creating user products is making sure the product itself represents and attests to the needs of people. When the group creating products shows lack of diversity in identity, this can neglect to meet underlying needs or wants of different groups of people.
My commitment to dedicating a life of service to others has brought me here in the United States from Nepal. This decision to move to a different country was based solely in order to pursue a career in medicine. Influenced by a team of German doctors that resided in Nepal, I moved here at the age of 19 by myself .I bring to the United States the culture, tradition and values from a city called Kathmandu in Nepal. My hometown Kathmandu awakes to the sound of barking dogs, tea-vendors and the unceasing honking of horns and stunning backdrop of 360-degree mountain ranges. Growing up, I always looked at the mountains and thought to myself that as I continue to grow I want to foster values like endurance, strength, courage, unfailing loyalty, and determination
I first got involved in theatre when I was 7 years old. It was never something I thought I would be doing for the rest of my life. I had first done gymnastics as a little girl for a few years. Then, I started playing soccer on a soccer team in my community. I started acting at classes down at my local rec center. Then, I auditioned for the musical my first year in middle school and fell completely attached to putting on a big production. Throughout the rest of middle school, I took choir all three years and was a part of all the productions and participated in Drama Club. At the end of my 8th grade year, I was inducted into the International Thespian Society. I decided to get serious about my training after my sophomore year of high school. I started training programs at the Denver Center of Performing Arts with Allison Watrous and other faculty members. The
We are not short of hearing about the significance in creating goals, merely having a vision is enough to steer someone into a reality long imaged. Long before The Secret and vision boards, I read Gloria Steinman’s book, A Revolution Within. She postulates imagining meeting oneself in the future. I have visualized a young vibrant, powerful woman with a number pinned on her chest, her face chafed from the wind, triumphantly passing the finish line.
There comes a time where the bird must “leave the nest,” and that time has come around faster than I could have imagined. One day it was playing outside in the dirt and the next we’re graduating from high school, entering a world that we are hopefully prepared for. I’ve always been one for self-doubting, especially since I would be the first in my family to go to college. I want to further my interests with the education available and achieve the most I can for myself but also for my family.
“Ambition is the first step to success. The second step is action” Always being motivated by this thought cultivated my interest to take Information technology as my major in my graduate studies as I originated from a business oriented family and wanted to bring technology in combination to my current family business in order to sustain in the competitive market. Being addicted to excellence, I believe a good career can only be built above the firm foundation of a good education. Above all, it would be a real benediction to be able to learn under the guidance of the professors at University of Cincinnati. Possessing excellent analytical and interpersonal skills, I am enthusiastic about the next phase of my life,I also hope and believe that I would be able to contribute to the University as well as build a great career ahead.
There are huge illustrations that testify the presence of mathematics in everything that we are doing and in nature all around us. It was that broad exposure that led me to write about the importance of mathematics in our life. First, coming from a different country, and starting off with a different cultural background while searching for college admission in the United States to pursuing my personal academic interests. The road to success was not an easy path for me, but I succeeded in obtaining my bachelor’s degree in mathematics at Jersey City University. After obtaining my B.A., I wanted to pursue my educational achievement to higher degree in Mathematics, but with work and a growing family I had to postpone my dream for a few years. About a year and a half ago while having a fruitful conversation with my brother on returning back school for higher learning in mathematics, and he advised me to look into Piedmont College where its program is designed to prepare students with similar interests as me. I immediately started to look into the program to sort out courses that I need to take until the completion of the entire program. After the submission of my application for admission to Piedmont College, I have received an acceptance letter from this School to welcome me as an official graduated student to Piedmont College. This decision was one of the best choices I have ever made. Last summer and early this year, I had the opportunity to take two courses that will
“Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family.”
Many professors, department websites, applications, and current graduate students will tell you that the statement of purpose is the most important part of the application. While the statement of purpose is the best way for the admissions committee to gauge your writing skills, it is quite different from the college admissions essay, or the law school personal statement. Admissions committees will not be looking for the most well-written essay with the catchiest introduction. What they really mean when they talk about the statement of purpose is that the research interest match between you and the program is the most important factor for admission, and your interests are revealed in the statement of purpose. In
As a child growing up in India the 1990s, it was rare to see a computer in someone's household. Yet my family regarded technology as a necessity on par with food and shelter. My father was a software engineer and he was determined I would become fluent in the use of the family computer as soon as my hands could reach the keyboard. While a toddler, I merely pressed the keys in imitation of my father today I can type as fast as I think.
Living just for existence has never been the objective of my life. I have always looked forward to get the best out of life. Since my schooling days, a keen interest in the sciences, along with good grades in mathematics, propelled me to pursue the life sciences after high school. Even though I am from India, where the life sciences are not as highly regarded as engineering because of the difference in the job opportunities in the two fields, my parents always encouraged my passion in pursuing the life sciences as a career. With their support, I applied and was accepted to the pharmacy program at BITS-Pilani, a program in which chemistry and biology are so intricately fused that they cannot be separated.
Firstly I would like to introduce myself as an undergraduate student of the bachelor of engineering program From the M.S.Ramaiah institute of technology, one of the most prestigious institutions of the Bangalore U university . I have completed my course of engineering in the field of 'Industrial Engineering’, which was for a period of four years. I graduated in the first class with distinction. I was ranked among the top five in the class.
In the past few years, India has been getting ready to become one of the strongest economies in the world. The current slogan `India Shining’ adopted by one of the country’s political parties, is most apt in business. With liberalization, the country has seen tremendous growth. Multinationals have poured in bringing with them, huge opportunity and most importantly, optimism for the future. The feel good factor is upon us, and I, as an Indian, revel in the new business avenues being thrown open for generation next. I started my education by schooling at St. Lawrence High School, one of Mumbai’s most prestigious schools where the bar for educational achievement was set high, but the importance of a well-rounded
