The first step to analyzing my personal leadership practices is to evaluate my strengths and weaknesses as a leader. One of the tools used to evaluate my leadership profile is the Seven Habits Profile, attached to this analysis.
After completing this Seven Habits profile, some of the leadership strengths and weaknesses I knew I possessed were reinforced with the results of this survey. Scoring highest, were my strengths of putting first things first and sharpening the saw. These two strengths were followed closely by a third-place tie of being in tune with my emotional bank account and ability to be proactive. Scoring lowest were my two greatest weaknesses, which are seeking first to understand and life balance. Tied in third-place as weaknesses are thinking win-win and synergize.
One of my highest scoring strengths is my ability to put first things first. This came to me as no surprise, as I see this dominant characteristic in almost every aspect of my life. Whether professionally or personally, my ability to see what needs to get done coupled with my drive to cross things off my to-do list has been a strength of mine as far back as I can remember. My personality is inclined to work first, play later. I tend to enjoy work and personal life at a greater capacity when I know there are no pressing matters to tend to.

Leadership, which is defined as “…The action of leading a group of people or an organization” is used in many different ways. Most people think being a leader is mostly about being the boss, having people work under you and just becoming successful, but it boils down to more than that. Leaders are those individuals that actually utilize their many abilities in leadership and administration to help make a better change for themselves, the people around them and the goal that needs to be achieved. Leadership is not an expertise that can essentially be grabbed from a book or article based on leadership but instead it is one of those initiative abilities that are increased through experience and understanding those real life situations.
This following will outline my personal leadership practices and potential future leadership. All leaders have strengths as well as weaknesses, I am no different. There are several disadvantages to being a transactional leader including not giving out adequate praises. I only praise coworkers for exemplary work. I
My top strength identified was the Achiever theme. Achiever describes the need for constant achievement. Achievers have the capacity and the drive to keep taking on new challenges and strive toward new goals (Rath, 2007). This description is accurate in that I enjoy a new challenge and like to keep busy working towards anything with some sort of successful outcome. I welcome the opportunity to do something better, more perfectly, or more complete which motivates me to a higher level (Rath, 2007).
Leadership goes beyond management, for some, leadership is instinctual and pours over into your personal life. This paper will discuss a leader I admire in my personal life, and analyze their leadership style. I will discuss how that leader has influenced my leadership style, as well as how things like environment and the economy affect my leadership approach.
Upon completion of the StrengthsFinder survey, I discovered that my five greatest strengths were Achiever, Discipline, Responsibility, Relator, and Competition. However, I was skeptical about the initial results until I read what each strength entails. I found most of the information given to be accurate. According to the description of those strengths, I discovered that I use them daily without realizing it.
In order for someone to be an effective leader, one would have to bestow certain skills and characteristics or some can be obtained over a period of time. After reflecting on the results of my seven habits results, it shows that I procrastinate and that I do not balance my life very well, but I am proactive person. I have learned that I do not properly plan projects out but when conflicts arise I try to seek out the root cause of the issue, so that I can try to find a common ground where all parties involved feel as though they have been heard and are coming out with a win. For this assignment, I have decided to use the leadership trait, skills and style questionnaires. For this questionnaire, I asked 5 different people that know me in different contexts in life, such as personal, school, and work environments. For the majority, I rated myself higher on the traits than my fellow colleagues. On some of the traits however, I was rated higher than what I thought. Overall, I averaged a 4/5 which means that everyone agreed with the traits that were given. For the style questionnaire, I found out that I place more emphasis in building relationships rather than completing tasks. Finally, the skills questionnaire, my leadership skills are in the high range for technical skills, and my human and conceptual skills are in the moderate range.
Leadership is something that we are all born with because we are all born. Therefore, who is a leader and who is not depends on who really wants to be a leader and who does not. Leadership is a skill and so it can be learned. As anything that is learned it demands practice and practice to be the best. It would not be something that will happen in a matter of a day. There are multiple elements that make a leader. Collaboration is a key element for successful teamwork. Therefore, a leader must always be in the look for ways to foster collaboration. Creating trust within the team, support face-to-face collaboration, transfer responsibilities when making decisions, and ultimately teach other how to be leaders. All of this is not done if it is not done from the bottom of your own heart.
Using the Strength Finders 2.0 Assessment, I was able to identify my personal strengths, which would identify my personal leadership skills. My strength assessment results where Harmony, Consistency, Empathy, Achiever, and Belief. This paper will identify each strength, how they relate to my leadership style and approach to leadership.
During week one of the course, I completed a project that allowed me to identify my strongest and weakest leadership traits. The project required input from six individuals with whom I have a professional relationship. They rated me in different areas based on a scale, to determine the results. One of my greatest strengths at work that I have recognized would have to be my ability to be a well-organized individual. I tend to write what I have to do down on paper and prioritize what is more important to least important. When an employee of an organization feels their performance and achievements do not matter, that organization may ultimately suffer. Genuinely recognizing the value of your employees will help stop a leader from falling into the pitfalls of leadership, and having their employees enter into a dimension known as the ‘critter state”. An employee that falls into this state is known to have their ideas and skills fall short while they focus on a single question: “What will keep me safe?” (Comaford C., 2013).
