Ever since day one children are told everyone is different and unique in their own way. In writing one can learn every single writer has their own style just like humans not one is the same. Some are fantastic inspiring writers and one can see that by reading their work. Others strengths can be in other subjects such as math, and as previously stated one can see that in their work as it lacks some of the passion, creativity, and structure that great writers have. Fantasitc writers are gifted with showing a passion through words. When I read something great I recognize a few things. For example, when reading a good writers work the writing flows and is not choppy, and it has creative visionary words. Another thing I notice is good writers can connect with many feelings and passions when writing. When reading mediocre writing it is more difficult to connect with the writer, they lack the passion about the topic and gives the reader a chance to become bored and want to move on to something else. All writers are different much like DNA no one is the same, with that being said some …show more content…
College is almost all writing there is always that essay, journal response, or research paper to write. I think this class will help me tremendously in college as to how to construct a piece of great writing. There are many things I think I do well with when writing. For example, I like to use creative word choice and spice up my writings a bit. I also like to have my writings proofread by others which has benefited me in learning about some things I can use to my advantage to get better at. I do have a few weaknesses in writings as well. I have never been the best at punctuation and sometimes have a difficult time writing to prompts that I have to explain something. I think this course will be able to help me with my writing struggles and give me knowledge that will only help me in my future to come in
I have written more in the past year in this course than I probably wrote throughout high school career. This class made me notice that prewriting really does make a difference in the end result as well as having a peer critique your paper. Instead of writing a quick paper and just handing it in, I was actually forced to take the time out to write a rough draft, read my own work out loud, and revise my work. It helped me make my writing more organized and have a better flow throughout my paper In the future, I will continue to use this method as well as visit the many resource we have on campus that can give feedback what can make my paper better or just checking for grammar errors, spell check, and sentence fragments.
Throughout this course, I was able to assess and evaluate my weaknesses and strengths in writing. This class has truly brought out my ability to write, a skill I did not believe I had. I now know what it takes to become a college-level writer. Also, at the beginning of the course I did not particularly enjoy writing. Now, however, I have a greater respect for
Each Author is unique they write about many different pieces, but they all have this set of principles they go by. Every author thinks about these four main concepts when they write and they are audience, genre, context, purpose. They first think about who will want to read their work so try to establish an audience. The Author next has to determine what their writing will be. They have to decide whether it's science fiction or any other, but they understand it important tell the genre of the work. Authors cannot be all over the place they are focused on one specific tone. Next authors contemplate why to write at all there must be a reason that is true, they all written for a purpose each author has one. Authors often write in troubling times for them like
Every author has a different writing style in comparison. They convey their messages in multiple ways; using different tones to evoke certain moods on their readers. Some authors use a few different ways to catch their audiences attention; persuading them using logic, ethics and emotion.
Writing was never a known weakness of mine. However, I could never confidently call it a strength. Throughout the course of this semester, my writing style has evolved and I have rid my writing of many habitual mistakes. I have learned to appreciate writing much more, and enjoy the moments where my mind meets words on a paper. Creativity has always been one of my strong suits, but through this course I catered my creativity to compose a variety of essays and speeches. Likewise, public speaking is something that I did not struggle with in the past, yet the structure of the class required a video speeches which was fairly new to me. All in all, I have been able to identify and modify gaps in my composition of writing and speech as a result of this course.
At the start of this course, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had a goal for myself to improve and learn skills that would make writing less daunting for me. I have learned so many things about my writing that I didn’t think much about before. Another goal I had was to break the cookie-cutter mold that was set upon me throughout high school. During the process of revision, I discovered many things about myself as a writer and techniques that have been effective for me in the writing process.
I hope to learn a lot during this course, but I mainly want to enhance my writing abilities. The ability to have a professional tone and style in all of my technical and academic writing is important. I want to be able to be correct and concise, without lacking any essential information. Furthermore, knowing when to apply different styles of writing to different audiences is important. Lastly, learning all of the grammar that I tend to forgot about such as, semicolons and colons, and when to use them. Overall, I’m excited to take this class and I’m ready to put in my full effort to receive the grade I want to
When I am writing narratives, I use many different characteristics to describe the characters, and when I was watching Ted Talks and doing the chart, it made me think about the speaker’s features and how I can use them to describe my characters better. Also, I use my time efficiently I don’t fool around and talk to others. I get right to my work and complete it. I accept writing criticism very well too, I use it to improve my writing. Another strength that I have in writing is I have excellent spelling, and I punctuate very well. Likewise in writing, I also have my strengths in reading. While reading a novel, I can illustrate what is going on in the book or the story in my mind which helps me understand that story more. It helps me to ‘get into’ the book. Also, another strength that I have in reading is that I can annotate and get information out of books very well. That, coupled with the fact that I am very good at figuring out hidden messages or finding the theme of the book. Notes I take from the novel help when I am flipping back through the book to support my theme or message with evidence.
I expect to improve on my writing skills from this class not because the professor had great ratings but i feel like the class in general can help me improve in the spots where I need them the most. I do lack on thesis development and many
When I began working in this class I was fearful that it would be a waste of my time. In high school, I took two AP English classes: administration at my school cancelled the first one in the middle of the year and I did not excell in the second. However, because of my educational background I am used to being challeneged and I did not see this course doing that for me. I never characterized myself as a great writer but I was already very familiar with the skills being reviewed so I did not believe that this course would add much value to my writing skills.
similar to rap or poetry or any form of storytelling. These last couple of weeks I've been astounded at the various ways of correlating writing styles to other styles and other form of expressing art. Such as comparing grammar structure to muscle building, although the art may not be seen at first glance, the more you begin to dissect these peculiar form of art, the more you begin to respect it for what it is. During the process of study writing styles I’ve also observed, that there
There are many writing styles that many people pick up as they go through there many years of schooling. Each person picks up the same type of writing styles but as years go by people seem to pick up there own little types of writing style that separates them from everyone else. As I have gone through many years of English classes I have acquired more and more skills and many more are sure to come as I continue my education. My writing skills have only gotten better from the time of ninth grade English class until today. Since my days back in junior high school I was only taught the basic skills to write papers and since then they have grown to make me a decent writer. I have many strengths and also
This course has been an awakening to me in terms of writing. I always thought that my writing was average, but when compared to others during peer editing, it is easy to see the gap. Many of my fellow classmates are around me, use a moderate amount of advanced vocabulary and have a decent style. Of course, there are the outliers; those above and below. This course has allowed me to see the writing of those above me, and it does motivate me to get to the standard that they are at. For one, my vocabulary is not where theirs are. I understand most words used, but when it comes to me writing my own paper, I often find myself using the same words over and over again. Nothing is unique or different, it is all the same being repetitive and boring.
Writing skills are an important way of communicating. Writing skills, build a different connection between the writer and reader in a different way from oral communication. Writing encourages critical thinking, which helps writers learn how to interpret the world around them. Good writing skills allow students to give a certain message clearly. GSW 1100 has introduced me to many different aspects of writing that was completely new to me. During the time, I spent as a high school student, I never had to write more than a three-page paper. Although I have always had the potential to complete a great paper, there was always some errors. However, while in my first semester in college, all the requirements for a paper changed. This semester I have learned that I am not one of the best writers. Therefore, I may not be passing the GSW1100 course, but I have improved in my writing. I have learned a few strengths about myself through writing. One would be how doing basic research and how to cite them. Another would be how I take processes to help me succeed in my writing. Finally, how I manage to keep my essays organized and make my points clear.
From taking this course I have been able to improve many of my weaknesses, but there are still some that I need to work on. Overall I am becoming better at not procrastinating as much as I used to. This class has helped me to learn to take the little steps along the way because then there will not be as much work to do towards the end. This has also made me realize that the final product of my writing will turn out better because it will have had more time to develop, which means that there would have been more opportunities to proofread. I think by learning many styles of writing, such as paraphrasing, summarizing, analyzing, and researching; it has enabled me to be able to write more broadly. By knowing how to correctly use all of these kinds of writing styles, it will help me in the future for other classes because I will have the knowledge that I need to write these types of papers. I still procrastinate sometimes, but not as much as I used to. I will be able to improve on this as time goes along because I will become more motivated by seeing the end result, which usually would be better grades.
