A) Can stress ever be a positive social determinant of health?

Stress a term used to describe the human response to pressure when faced with challenges or even dangerous situations, resulting in an increase in our energy and alertness, a prolonged exposure to stressful stimuli can lead to harmful effect on health, a functional definition of stress may be hard to establish, the research of stress probably started with Selye Hans (1956) using the term “stress” in his book “the stress of life” referring to stress as the unpleasant environmental events and the physiological reaction toward it, examining the effect of anxious but different physical and emotional stimuli on laboratory animals, suggesting that persistence exposure to stress …show more content…

(2013) proposed that eustress at work enhances peak performance of the employees, suggesting ways to generate the good stress at work in order to achieve better employees performance.

The pressure and challenge of writing an essay or going through examination, is a good example of eustress in daily life, the stress generating from these experiences motivates us to prepare ourselves for the big moment, were the adrenaline rushes through our system generating extra energy and alertness, same situation can be observed in a dangerous situation, when you are suddenly surprised, your body will activate the “fight or flight” response, triggering the adrenal medulla to initiate the secretion of hormones that results in the production of epinephrine and norepinephrine allowing you to access extra energy to overcome the stressor, when the situation is successfully resolved, a feeling of confident, accomplishment is developed, increasing the person satisfaction and self-esteem, the simple daily running and exercising habits, generates eustress as well, putting some degree of pressure on your body, and then successfully managing that pressure will result in the same process. While eustress has appositive effect on our physical activities and excitement, it also support our motivation and inspiration.
