Strict Deadlines
Sixty-one percent (61%) of the respondents observed strict deadlines as a serious hazard with regards to matters of health. 39% did not consider it as a hazard that affects organizational performance. Conversely, only twenty-six percent (26%) of the respondents reported that they ever give instructions to employees in ways that related to strict deadlines. Most organizations are still not cognisant that employees may be suffering from this serious health hazard in a way that affects their performance in a negative way. It is important to note that the management of organizations can, in a number of ways, prevent operating with strict deadlines for the employees on a regular basis. Again the issue of strict deadlines

There was also the issue of provision of instructions regarding preventive measures or strategies to the employees, a factor that seemed to be disregarded or not well emphasised in most organizations; only 35% of the respondents reported to do so on a regular basis.
In as much as the physical preventive measures tend to offer the employees the feeling that the organization cares for them, disregards or lack of emphasis on information of preventive strategies somehow shows that organizations only focus on protecting their properties. Offers of such information serves to ensure the employees are well prepared in dealing with buglers and terrorist. Them would know the correct times of raising alarm and cooperating; they would also be better positioned in identifying robbers or terrorists, and avoid possibilities of being injured or killed in attacks.
Chemical Exposure and other Pollutants
Common elements that bring about chemical exposure in most of the organizations include cleaning materials with potential of harmful implications, chemicals in currency notes and the ones used in machinery and equipment like photocopiers and printers. Special focus ought to be given to organizations that deal with manufacturing and processing that involves first-hand use of chemical materials. Otherwise and in commonplace office settings, most respondents failed to consider chemical exposure as a health and safety hazard that
To be early, is to be on time, to be on time, is to be late, and to be late, is out of the question. Being able to adhere to a given deadline in a group situation, demonstrates responsibility, time management, group cohesion, and progress. However, being that a group is a collection of individuals with separate lives, there are times when members of the group may be experiencing extenuating circumstances preventing the group from completing a task on time. In such a scenario, communication within the chain of command is essential. Failing to communicate problems that may arise, and inhibit group progression towards a task will result in failure to communicate the task, group division, distrust between the chain of command and the group,
In the workplace employees need to put these safe ways of working into practice; for
Patients and healthcare professionals are exposed to these nocive materials every day. Occupational Safety And Health Administration, (OSHA), furnishes useful information on how to control hazardous chemicals and to protect and ensure workers and clients safety. OSHA also regulates rules for industries on how to create chemical-safe areas around workers. People with low income are most likely affected. Adding to financial challenges, their conditions of living are sometimes unthinkable.
Maintaining a physically safe work place is part of any good prevention program. Agency facilities use a variety of security measures to help ensure safety. These include:
This act also tries to balance both the employer’s need to maintain a secure and safe work environment along with the employees needs to work in a dignified and respectful work environment. Areas are established to protect against surveillance so that employees can have what is referred to as a safe haven. Under this act notice is given to employees about areas that are monitored and protected by surveillance when there is cause for surveillance/monitoring (Fiora, pg. 559,
A safety issue includes making sure that appropriate signs are in place. For example, making sure that a wet floor is near wet spot. If signs are not placed in their appropriate areas incidents may occur where they could have easily been stopped. These are incredibly important also with correct labelling. If someone is using spray that they thought was a cleansing spray but instead it’s a degreaser it may cause uncleanliness within the work place.
Therefore, employers may consider taking the following action which includes; implementing proper security measures, establishing a written policy that outlines employee standards of honesty, general security procedures and consequences if not followed. In addition, the company can employ keyless entry systems, burglary alarm systems, and set up video surveillance cameras in areas that is most likely to be targeted for break in or other malicious acts; perform evaluations and security analysis using the safety security checklist. This will help employers identify conditions, situations, procedures, and practices that may put employees at risk (Goetsch,
In order to provide a safe, secured working environment for employees, and in the interest of protecting the privacy and security of all associated with the company, Edu Corp recognizes the importance of detailed, thorough facility security plans, minimizes and safeguards all printed company material, screens all incoming and outgoing mail, securely disposes of company trash and/or waste, securely disposes of all company-based electronic devices, and provides continual training to all employees in regards to facility security.
The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) has instituted several guidelines to help in reducing exposure limits of carcinogens. OSHA has made it compulsory for organizations to provide employees with information regarding possible health hazards in their firms via several methods. OSHA has drafted a Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) covering the manufacturing sector. The HCS program is to ensure organizations address exposure limits to carcinogenic compounds in their organizations. The program gives guidelines to be followed when employees are exposed to hazardous in the workplace (Occupational Safety and Health Administration, 1983). OSHA requires carcinogenic substances to have warnings and information on Material Safety Data Sheets. Additionally, it requires organizations to outline description of labeling systems used designation of individuals responsible for labeling plant containers and procedures to follow in writing label information on the containers.
Participants reported that undergoing training and taking security seriously reduced unauthorized disclosures. Arachchilage and Love (2014) confirmed the need for information security training. The researchers suggested that personnel have an insufficient amount of both knowledge and training to mitigate threats related to information security. For instance, organizations attempt to counter information security threats by publishing organizational policies and conducting periodic information security-training that assist in the mitigation efforts to thwart threats such as fraud, viruses, malware, spyware, and social engineering attacks (Arachchilage & Love, 2014; Chen, Ramamurthy, & Wen, 2015; Singh et al., 2013).
Employees often try to circumvent policy. People are generally resistant to rules and regulations that tell them what to do. The role of security education, training and awareness (SETA) is important
Documentation, training, policies and procedures are helpful when creating, testing and implementing a new risk mitigation plan. Documentation is extremely helpful as it gives information on where the company was before the new plan was created, where the company will be once the plan has been implemented and where the company will be in the future if the plan is followed. Documentation also provides details for management and allows for easier troubleshooting methods. Training of all staff is crucial if a plan is to succeed as the least trained individual is the company’s worst enemy. Training provides up-to-date information on new security measures as well as ‘what-to-do’ lists that all employees can follow in the instance of any issues.
Education is the foundation for success. This is true in every aspect of life, but within a company employees need to be educated in preventative tactics. Education of how to react to security threats are a great asset in the event of a situation where security is at risk (Beesley, 2013, para. 10). Enforcement of new rules and policies on how to handle “company confidential information, including financial data, personnel and customer information” is needed as well (Beesley, 2013, para. 11).
Evaluated policies, standards, procedures and guidelines in place to enable employees to be enablers to a robust security awareness program. (Obj. B)
Understanding the results of any evaluation is always important for all safety professional. The air sampling preformed in this research showed that workers who perform maintenance and folding paper functions within the facility were found to have the highest exposure. In addition, maintenance workers and cutting machine operators were found to have the concentration in their urine in the post work evaluation. With a time weighted average of 8 hours, worker in the maintenance department were measured at an average of 25.7. Workers in the folding paper role were exposed, on average, to an air concentration of 26.3. Meanwhile, maintenance workers had a urine concentration average of 3 and cutting machine operators had a concentration average of 1.1 followed closely by folding paper workers of a average concentration of 1. By reviewing these results from the evaluation, it helps safety professional to identify areas of high exposure so
