Career assessments provide the counselor will information to help guide the client in deciding on what career that they would enjoy. This information would give the client an idea what line of work that they would enjoy being in. The client would find the job as a rewarding step, and what they would be interested in doing. It would be important to put assessments that are multicultural. When reviewing this assessment, this assessment did examine the gender components in Strong Interest Profile (Grutter & and Hammer, 2012). It would be important that the counselor would give assessments that are suitable for any culture. When issuing a client an assessment, the counselor would need to explain to the client what they would be taking an assessment for. The counselor would need to explain why they need to assess the client, and what the scores would show the counselor (Whiston, 2013). In the Strong Inventory Assessment, this assessment helps counselors to look for patterns of interest (Grutter & and Hammer, 2012). The counselor would need to identify the validity of the assessment (Whiston, 2013).
When Jane has completed the assessment, the counselor would look at the results of the assessment. The counselor would check to see if they have answered 276 questions. To ensure that all possible clients of all walks of life are successfully benefiting from the counseling profession, advancement in the assessment field should be of a primary concern for present and future counselors. It is understood and respected that a multitude of counselors vary in the foundations of their theoretical framework and collectively not all counselors participate in assessment with their clients, but as the counseling profession continues to grow the demand of expansion is critical.
Largely, the entire test proved thought provoking as this was a subjective test. Meaning everyone's values are not the same, everyone is not driven by the same motives. This could be problematic in obtaining valid results. It has given this writer cause to carefully examine assessments that are being administered clients. Reliability and validity have a great importance in how counselor should utilize assessments and can assist in finding appropriate instruments in order to be more effective with clients.
Counseling uses two types of assessment to get a better understanding of their clients which are testing and diagnosis. Clients have the privilege to understand the purpose of what an assessment process involves and counselors are responsible to maintain the security test that they use and the proper supervision for the test-taking process (Remley & Herlihy, 2014, p.289). In order for me to complete this career assessment paper, I initially took an Interest Inventory survey. Upon completing this process, it revealed that my personality profile score was (I, C, A). These three letters represented my strengths and interests in determining which career field would best suit me.
The results from assessment weren’t surprising to me, as I ranked very high in conventional, Enterprising and Social categories. There were several careers listed in the job zone that appealed to me such as Human Resources Specialist, A Meeting, Convention and Event Planner, Compensation and Benefits Manager and Social &Human Service Assistant. Another consideration includes being able to have an idea of what test the client will need based on what they have told you before the assessment starts. By doing this you will lower the number of assessments that you would have to choose from. In the early 1900’s before Strong Interest Inventory was developed the techniques that were utilized to assess an individual’s career interest were estimation, rating scales and checklists.
