Stronger gun control laws should be enacted. Firstly, the murder rate in America will decrease. Secondly, there wouldn’t be so many gun attacks and suicides. The article “American deaths in terrorism vs. gun violence in one graph” by Julia Jones and Eve Bower shows how dangerous guns are now and how they are used for attacks rather than protection. To begin with, stronger gun control laws should be enacted because the murder rate in America will decrease. In the article, “American deaths in terrorism vs. gun violence in one graph” shows that the United States has the most homicides and the most amount of civilian firearms per person. This means, the graphs show how many homicides and gun ownership countries have. The graph also shows that the United States has the most homicides …show more content…
Although, many Americans believe they have the right to bear arms and use guns for protection. According to the article, “American deaths in terrorism vs. gun violence in one graph” the author Julia Jones states “The prevalence of guns go a long way toward explaining America’s terrible record – they are used in two – thirds of all murders. This demonstrates, guns are the most common weapons that are used in most of all the murders that are occurring. Due to the fact that guns are the most common weapons, it makes the United States have a horrible record. According to the same article “American deaths in terrorism vs. gun violence in one graph” states guns play a large role in suicides too. The article, also states that in 2013; 21,175 Americans killed themselves with guns, while 11,208 were killed by others. This means, people buy guns to take their lives away without a hesitation. This also means, people die no matter with a gun, either they commit suicide or someone kills them. As shown above, there wouldn’t be so many gun attacks and suicides if stronger gun control laws should be
Guns are a major problem in our society and the numbers of these gun-related murders are continuing to rise. On top of the murders you also have people losing their lives through misfire and gun-related suicides. The total death toll of all gun-related deaths averages over 30,000 per year in the U.S. (http://blogs.kqed.org/lowdown/2013/03/07/u-s-gun-deaths-visualizing-the-numbers/). I believe that enforcing stricter gun laws will contribute to getting these numbers lower. The numbers do not lie, we as a society have a problem with gun-violence and we need to do something to fix it.
More than 32,000 people die each year in the United States alone due to gun related violence. These people are robbed of their future because of the carelessness of others, or even themselves. Their family and friends are no longer able to see them. All of this, because of one pull of a trigger. Many people die from gun violence each year. In order to prevent these unnecessary deaths, there should be stricter gun laws to prevent the severe loss of life, suicide, and school shootings.
Stricter gun laws are required to reduce casualties caused by gun violence. People have right to own guns base on the 2nd amendment of the U.S constitution. According to “Background on Gun Control” 91% percent of Americans say that there should be least minor restrictions on gun ownership. However, research shown that children who died after being accidentally shot has increased from 140 in 1996 up to 259 in 2012 every year. In my opinion, the U.S government should increase stricter gun regulations on background check; mental examination and safety trainings to prevent misfiring that cause death and injuries among our friends and family.
The first reason why gun laws should be stricter in America is stricter gun laws will save lives. In 2010, 31,076 people died from gun violence in America, that is 85 people every day and three people every hour. There were also 73,505 people in emergency care because of non-fatal gun wounds in 2010. People often call the Vietnam War one of the biggest wastes of life in history, but more deaths occur in two years from gun violence in America than in all 20 years of the Vietnam War. Stricter gun laws would make it harder for people to access the guns that caused all of this death, and greatly decrease the number of deaths that gun violence cause. (Agretsi
From the Vox article about Gun control in America, I conceive that declining the amount of gun usage would not going to decrease the gun violence in United States. Gun violence includes many other cruelty such as addictive substances, mental disorders, suicide and homicide. In United States homicides of firearms are on high peak (based on the chart that provided by the Vox website) other countries like Canada and Sweden has six and seven times less homicide rates compare to United States. Germany has sixteen times less homicides compare to America. It is unbelievable for me, because I didn’t have knowledge about this before. It is shocking to see that this problems is increasing every day and we are not acting on it. Our politicians say a lot
Gun Control Gun Control has been a highly controversial issue in the United States for the past several decades. From assassinations to mass shootings, every time guns and violence come together the issue resurfaces. Should the nation act on stricter gun laws and legislation? Would new gun laws help or hinder the gun crime rate in the United States? The nation stands divided on the issue; both sides taking a firm stance as to what they believe should be done legislatively with guns. Gun control advocates state that the number ofand different types of guns in the hands of the American public is simply too great. There are an estimated two hundred and forty million guns in circulation across our nation made up of three hundred million citizens. Gun control advocates reason that more guns lead to more gun crime. They site the extremely tight gun laws in countries such as the United Kingdom and Japan and compare the gun number to gun violence ratio. The ratio in those countries is nearly one hundred times lower than that of the United States with .04 gun related deaths per one hundred thousand people compared to the United State’s 3.42 gun related deaths per one hundred thousand people. Furthermore, out of the fourteen deadliest mass shootings in the world, half of them have been committed in the United States. Even though there was a decline in gun related crimes during the 90’s, they have been on the rise since 2005. Currently, the United States ranks twelfth out of one
The problem with guns in America has been an ongoing issue for many years. According to statistics from the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, in 2010 alone there were about 31,076 deaths by gun and all were either homicides, suicides or unintentional shootings. 73,505 people were treated in the hospital for non fatal gunshot wounds in 2010 as well. Gun control laws are a benefit to America because they would help reduce gun deaths and other gun-related incidents all over the nation. Furthermore, they would reduce crime all over the country, for example armed robbery and assault with a gun, and homicide. Although it is believed that gun control laws will obstruct the right to self-defense or deny people a sense of safety, statistics show that guns are rarely used in self defense. Not only that, but the majority of adults including gun owners, support gun control such as background checks and bans on assault weapons (ProCon.Org). There have already been far too many innocent deaths in the past.
Gun control laws are not always effective and that is why each year they are improving them and making them to where they can be more effective. One of the laws that was the most effective was the Brady act which required all individuals that were interested in owning a gun to have a background check that was implemented by the federal government (Kwon, & Baack, 2005). This act has had a very positive impact on the crimes rates and has helped protect our society. There are many articles that show that with stricter gun laws being implemented that there are a decrease in crimes being committed throughout the United Stares (Kwon, & Baack, 2005). Studies show that countries who have low gun ownership have fewer gun related deaths. In reality if
“According to the Congressional Research Service, there are roughly twice as many guns per capita in the United States as there were in 1968: more than 300 million guns in all” describe in the article Guns In America, By The Numbers by Scott Horsley at npr.org. The number of guns’ sale is increasing every year. Some people might think more gun more peach, but some of them think more gun more violence. In common sense, a place where has the incredibly lax gun law, the country has the strongest culture of gun ownership, highest rate of suicide, highest gun violence per capita. In the EBSCO article, Gun Control in America: An Autopsy report by Collier, Charles W,described “the United States with less than 5 percent of the world’s population and nearly half the world’s firearms (pg. 81). United States is the little country that allows people illegal to carry a gun protect their life in the right way. They use to teach their children how to use guns when they are little. The more we learn, the more we use to. More people using gun as tool to suicide and killing another because the unlimited availability of gun sale. The more gun we have sale, the country will be becoming an armed society. As the number of guns increasing, the US homicide rate was increasing and higher than other country. In the Google scholar article, Violent Death Rates: The US Compared with OECD Countries, 2010, explain that US homicide rates were much higher than other high-income countries, the gun homicide rate in the United States was 49.0 times higher and the overall firearm death rate in the United States from all causes was 10.0 times higher”. This year, I have heard about two homicide case from customer in where I used to work. The death rate of gun violence having a certain relationship to the lax gun laws and policy. The above evidences show how gun violence has been affected to our lives,
In the past few years, mass shootings have been occurring more frequently. From that movie theatre a few years back, to the church shooting earlier this year, mass shootings are starting to become a little bit too common. One would think that this fact would lead to better gun ownership laws, but it has not affected them all that much. Too many Americans have rioted when the mere whisper of stricter laws escapes the mouths of any of their fellow people. Stricter laws on the ownership and usage of firearms should be considered, for it would reduce mass shootings, less violent crimes would be committed, and more lives would be saved from the potential danger.
As I stated, more gun control laws should be enacted because it could reduce violence immensely. "By 2013, gun violence was responsible for 11,208 deaths. The majority of those killed were between the ages of fifteen and thirty-four. The number of gun deaths rose slightly over the next two years. In 2015, 13,286 people had been killed by a firearm. Without any gun laws the gun violence will just increase throughout the years. The opposition might argue that by increasing gun control laws won’t deter crime. However, there have been laws in the past that have been effective in decreasing crimes. "Following passage of the Brady Law, aggravated assaults involving firearms declined 12.4 percent between 1994 and 1999.” There’s proof that gun control laws can be effective and can reduce gun violence.
Switzerland, in 2007 was ranked 3th in international gun ownership rates with 45.7 guns per 100 people and in 2009 they had only 24 gun homicide & 253 gun suicides. Finland was ranked 4th and 45.3 person had guns out of 100 and in 2007 they only had 23 homicide and 172 gun suicides. While in the United States 88.8 out of 100 people had guns in 2007 and had 12,632 gun homicides and 17,352 gun suicides. Just the fact that almost 89 people out of 100 have guns , is very because the presence of a gun can turn something fatal. So many people having guns , pick up the chance of them getting a gun stolen. Between 2005 and 2010, 1.4 millions guns were stolen from US homes during property crimes. Another bad thing about so many people having guns is that there will be more suicides. Between 1999 and 2013 there were about 270,000 firearms suicides. Most people that would want to commit suicide would not kill him/herself with poison or with a knife when a gun is unavailable. So less people having guns could reduce suicides rates.
Too many people are being killed each year. If the United States has stricter gun laws there will be less shootings and kills. In the United States 33,600 people die every year from a firearm. I think there should be more gun laws in place because we have the police to protect us.
When tragedy strikes on a national scale, we react in shock and are overcome with sorrow. But then, as anger and frustration set in, we begin to divide, to blame the things we have always blamed for the evils around us. We push to have something done, and call for laws to be passed. In the second amendment, it states that any person has the right to bear arms. People believe that there should be stricter gun control laws to help reduce these tragedy, but others believe that the gun control laws should be left alone. In the end, I believe that the gun control laws should be stricter because it would save the lives of millions of innocent people every single day.
One reason we need better gun control laws is because , more guns equal more homicides & suicides . For example, there are about 123 suicides per day . This is caused by depression, anger, stress and many more reasons . Better gun control laws can help reduce the rate of suicides . Furthermore , massive shootings . There is no month that goes by without a massive shooting . Wether its school shooting, public shooting, or any, innocent people are losing their lives . As you can see, our world needs better gun control
