As part of an upcoming assignment for the class, Conceptual Dimensions of Instructional Leadership, I conducted a safety audit of Southern Choctaw Elementary School from May 29 through May 31, 2018. The purpose was to assess the safety conditions within the school, identify and develop solutions for physical safety concerns, and identify and evaluate patterns of student safety concerns. Based on the results of the audit, it is my hope the principal will develop responses and solutions which may include recommendations for structural adjustments, changes to safety procedures, and/or revisions to the student code of conduct. The first area assessed was School Exterior and Playground. Despite having a confusing entrance layout, there were signs designating the main entrance to the school. Upon entering the school, posted notices showed visitors the main office where they …show more content…
It is my recommendation the custodian completes monthly preventative maintenance walkthroughs of the above items/areas. A major concern was the lack of lighting around the school and near points of intrusion. My suggestion is to install security lighting around the building so people will be able to travel on foot or by vehicles safely. Proper lighting can help reduce crime and instances of vandalism around the facility. The school does not have a working surveillance system. Camera shells are installed; however, the technology does not work. Since the equipment has been installed, the technology department should take the necessary steps to get the equipment functioning. Most doors are locked at the school when vacant, but there were some classrooms which were not locked. They were incapable of being locked because keys were lost or the locking mechanism on the door was broken. Regardless, this is unacceptable. The only recommendation is to replace the door
The plan is to purchase new doors for all around the school that will require all the faculty members to obtain a key fob to enter. Also, certain doors will be ran on timers that will only open for 5 minutes between classes. Sprague said, “This is to stop a lot of student traffic from going in and out of the building.” Also, the ceilings have been lowered and all of the lights have been switched to LED, this is to decrease costs in lighting, heating, and cooling the building.
Every member of staff in the school has a responsibility to keep the children safe and well
6. As an administrator, building supervision and student/staff safety has to always be at the forefront in planning for the school day. Not doing so, can lead to the unthinkable like this situation, a school
The main concern that may arise when dealing with intruders in the college is getting hold of personal information. This is a major concern for any school or college and is important that they are stopped. If intruders do enter the premises they could get hold of personal information about students and staff. In my poster I have highlighted this and given advice on how to stop this from occurring if someone unauthorized enters the building. Computes should be password locked when they are not being used and any confidential paper work should be put into cabinets which are locked. Staff should ensure that all members staff are aware of this rule and if any computers are not locked to do so. By having this
You will be asked 10 questions about how you feel about safety in your school. Please choose an answer that reflects the way you feel most correctly. Please remember to be as honest as possible. Your identity will not be shared.
As the project manager to install an access control system (ACS) in the dormitory of the college, my team will develop a project scope statement that cover all the necessary tasks to completed, along with a timeline to complete all tasks, which the work for each task will be written out. Also, a Gantt chart will be created, that will illustrate the project tasks. Lastly, we will create a system diagram to illustrate all the equipment and connections that are required for this project.
Imagine at the end of the school day exhausted teachers ready to release the students to their busses and overly eager children quick to get on the bus and go home. Mixtures of children between the grades from kindergarten to fifth grade erratically search for their assigned bus like a stampede of animals. Luckily for me I was able to witness the releasing of students to their busses at the end of the day before and after Ontario Local Schools joined the AAA Safety Patrol program which allowed me to distinguish a transformation between the chaotic and unsafe transfer of students to and from school to a safer and more efficient processes. However, being a member of the AAA Safety Patrol program not only influenced me through being able to witness
1. Explain and discuss the Introduction to the New York City Police Department based in the School Safety Agent Student Guide.
It would be a wise idea for school administrators to have a comprehensive security assessment of the school’s physical design, safety policies, and emergency procedures. Once again this must be conducted with the cooperation of school staff, emergency personnel, students, and other school community members. Every school has different needs and safety plans may vary. According to the IACP (International Association of Chiefs of Police), there are twenty recommended actions that can be used to prevent violence in a school setting.
Edgewood middle school is a school in highland park which is located in the north shore of Chicago. Every day school starts at 7:50 in the morning, and the final bell rings 2:40. The 6th and 7th graders enter through the lower entrance while the 8th graders enter through the upper entrance. When you enter the school late you ring the bell and Mrs. Lindberg buzzes you in. The first safety problem at Edgewood is security. When someone enters they can just wander the school. A simple excuse like “I'm a janitor” or ‘“Im picking my child up” will give you easy access to the school. Another concern is lockdown safety. The students aren't very are familiar with the procedure during a lockdown. This is explained because we only have about one lockdown each year. My last concern is lunchroom safety. We get food
Schools need to maintain a disciplined and safe learning environment. There are many disciplinary actions that are in use today and although some can disagree about the amount of discipline that is best for maturing children, it is reasonable to be in agreement that a positive learning environment begins with physical and emotional safety. School safety includes a broad range of matters, including, fighting, bullying, drugs, alcohol, weapons, and etc. Many schools use varying methods in an effort to maintain school safety. Some schools limit school access and require all visitors to sign in. Physical surveillance is another common method of addressing school safety issues along with use of staff and student identification. Among all these
Safety is a tremendous issue on college campuses, and additional procedures need to be taken to prevent crimes from happening. When walking onto a college campus as a young adult, people get a rush of the unknown. The unknown could be going to college parties and late night study groups. College should be like any high school or elementary school and have better security measures to protect their students. The reasons we need these extra steps are to prevent violence, give students a sense of security, and monitor visitors on campus.
School safety is essential to a child’s education. Public schools in the United States have various issues with disciplinary problems and school violence/shootings. The United States has had
This paper explores security issues among every school in the nation. Although, several schools have taken steps to make their school safer. Some fear that it is not enough, while others feel they have done too much. Most schools have enforced stricter polices such as dress codes. While others have encouraged teachers to carry handguns in schools. There has been a lot of national debate on camera systems, metal detectors, alarm devices, security training, access control, and security officers. This paper will begin with camera systems. How effective are the systems and if it can be improved? This paper will provide the positive and negative results of having a camera system. Then proceed with concerns that have to do with metal detectors and alarm devices along with information on access control and security training. Lastly, it will explain the benefits of having security officers at school grounds.
As administrators, finding solutions to countless situations is an endless task. Nonetheless, high teacher turnover rate is a problem that needs to be address, so that school, teachers, and ultimately students find success. To first address teacher safety concerns, as a future administrator, I would begin by surveying teachers and staff to find their biggest safety concerns and suggestions for what could be done create a safer environment. With the information collected, I would decide if it is a first or second order
