The book I am reading is Selp-Helf by the author Miranda Sing. The genre of this book is self help or inspirational. This book is basically the author giving you tips about how to live a better life and tips on how to be just overall great. The author Miranda sings is very successful in almost everything which makes her very fit to the job of helping others become successful. There isn't a real conflict in this type of book. The only thing would be a problem would be all those people that need help. and the resolution would be Miranda Sings trying to help them through those problems. Conflict is a struggle between opposing forces. There can be multiple conflicts in a story. This is the case in Of Mice and Men. In chapters three and four, there are man vs. man, man vs. self, and man vs. society conflicts. As George and Lennie interact with the workers on the ranch, sometimes conflicts arise between them.
The authors purpose was to entertain readers. It was not a book to inform because it doesn’t give facts about anything. It has a

In the novel Fever, 1793, by Laurie Halse Anderson there is a lot of conflicts. I believe conflict is a situation or problem that one character or more are facing. These conflicts are the struggles of the fever, having to deal with the Ogilvies, and Mattie facing herself. Mattie’s perseverance while facing the challenges of getting through the fever, facing the Ogilvies, and facing herself and her doubts helped lead her from childhood to adulthood.
What are the ways in which each major character experiences conflict (either with self, with other characters, or with the social and/or physical environment)?
Conflict is not something that can be avoided, especially in fiction. In fact, conflict is the main purpose of how a story came to be – without conflict, there will be no story. As quoted from Peder Hill (n.d.), “Its the primary ingredient that weaves together all the other elements of a novel”. However, conflict can arise in a story in various forms and they alter the course of the story. For instance, a conflict of decision. What decision is made by the characters moves the story. This is called external conflict, which Rector (2002) defines as “a struggle between a character and an outside force”. On the other hand, conflict within a character may also arise, which is called internal conflict. Internal conflict means “a struggle that
Conflict is a key aspect in all pieces of literature. Without it, works would be very boring, predictable and would not be able to draw the reader in. There is usually one main conflict the protagonist faces, whether it is against an evil villain or the evil inside their own self. In the book The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd, the courageous protagonist, Lily, struggles with an internal conflict with the guilt of possibly being the cause of her mother's death and the absence of knowledge about her mother. Following a clue left by her mother, Lily runs away from home and meets the "calendar sisters" in Tiburon, SC. There, she is finally able to discover who her mother actually was and learn the truth behind her mother's death: that Lily had accidentally shot her. Upon uncovering the whole truth, Lily is finally able to begin to forgive herself and shrug off the heavy guilt that had burdened her for years. Through Lily's struggle to figure out who her mother was and accept what happened to her, Sue Monk Kidd wishes to communicate that even if something

One of the first conflicts in the film causes a bigger conflict in later years and later in the plot between the same characters. A conflict is defined as "Conflict is a fact of human life. It occurs naturally in all kinds of settings. Nations still struggle, families fracture in destructive conflicts, marriages face challenges and often fail, and the workplace is plagued with stress." in the textbook "Interpersonal Conflict" by Wilmot. Meriam-Webster defines conflict in three ways. Firstly a war, fight or battle. Secondly "competitive or opposing action of incompatibles :antagonistic state or action (as of divergent ideas, interests, or persons)" or "mental struggle resulting from incompatible or opposing needs, drives, wishes, or external or internal demands". Lastly "the opposition of persons or forces that gives rise to the
In the story there are 3 types of conflict, Person vs. Self, Person vs. Society and Person vs. Person. Person vs. Self would come in when Carolee had to decide what she was gonna do. Would she call the police or help the person or just leave well alone. Person vs. Society would be the police force against the suspect. Finally Person vs. Person would be when the suspect shot the other police officer and when he was getting shot at.
In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, there are several external and internal conflicts. The most common conflict throughout the book is character versus character. For example, when Scout finally entered the first grade her teacher, Miss Caroline, is not happy with Scout because she already knew how to read which created a battle between Scout and Miss Caroline’s opinions. Scout also had a spark of conflict with Atticus when she demanded that she will not attend school anymore because of Miss Caroline; Atticus disagreed. Character versus nature is another external conflict demonstrated in the novel. For example, Miss Maudie is conflicted with fire as exemplified when the narrator says, “We stood watching the street fill with men and cars while
According to Ann Charters in The Short Story and its Writer, "conflict is the opposition presented to the main Character of a narrative by another character, by events or situations, by fate, or by some aspect of the protagonist's own personality or nature. The conflict is introduced by means of a complication that sets in motion the rising action, usually toward a climax and eventual resolution" (Charters 1782).
When it comes to conflicts in literature there are two main types; internal and external. There are multiple different types of conflicts that can appear in literature, usually all stories or novels have at least one conflict. What is a story without a conflict? An internal conflict is a conflict that
Conflict was displayed in two specific scenes of the movie. The first scene was when Toula?s parents are arguing about Toula going to school (Appendix A). Her father feels she should not go to school because girls don?t need to, and that she is fine doing what she is doing; working at the family restaurant. Her mother on the other hand, feels that Toula should go to school if that is what she wants. They go back and forth until Toula?s mom walks out. This argument is started because they both have different things they want. She ends the argument with a sarcastic comment, and it doesn?t get settled. Throughout their argument, neither of the two used any of the guidelines for conflict that we had learned about. Perhaps if guidelines were used the argument would not have ended on a bad note. Using such guidelines such as clarifying goals or using constructive criticism might have prevented the argument to begin with.
