It was a gorgeous summer day. the sun was shining, the birds were singing, and the world was at peace on the seemingly carefree sunday afternoon. church had just ended and the children ran fast and free ready to play. They ran two and twelve towards the town’s lake to go swimming, in order to ward off the heat of the noon sun. They stampeded through town bumping over numerous people and even one another to reach the cool blue waves. The menacing multitude took a sharp turn from the street to an old dusty road. The trees shook in the evening breeze and swayed slightly further when the children hurried by. Dust faintly clouded out the light that poured over the path. Finally they reached the dock and began to take off and swap clothes. The boys took off their shirts and pants and swam in their underwear, while the girls chose to go behind some nearby bushes.and exchange out their attire. When everyone was in they started to splash one another while laughing and shouting. A few of them dived under the water to search for fish and other sea life. When they came back, up two of them had seaweed, one held a starfish, and two others had a crab holding it by both sides. It was getting a little later in the day, but the kids were not quite yet ready to leave their fun to rest. They decided to play hide and seek even though the sun was beginning to make its descent behind the green curtains that were the distant hills. One child counted while everyone hid and waited. As he counted out
The short story All Summer In a Day by Ray Bradbury illustrates that someone who acts upon their jealousy can end up with a feeling of great regret. The other kids were jealous of Margot for almost everything she had and they hated her for it. She was different from the other kids in a way that she had something the other kids didn’t. She remembered the sun. The other kids resolved their jealousy by doing some terrible things. Jealousy can cause people to do things they wouldn’t if they were thinking correctly. Jealousy can cause much regret.
It has been six very long days, I cannot wait any longer for the chapter to be uploaded, I am both excited and exhausted. The days usually pass me by finding new short stories to read, which for the most part lasts a day or more. Then I am back to finding new stories and I always find some good ones, because of the several genres that are on the website. The website is called Wattpad. It is where my favorite writer can make his talent shine. The website is where the youngsters and college students get their best drafts up on the website for the readers to enjoy and as the time passes the writers grow into their best version of themselves in the writing department. The writers are mostly college students and High Schoolers that have a love for writing. The books have many genres but my interest will always be in the romance books. The romance genre is popular since it's mostly teenagers that are acquainted with Wattpad. Even though the romance books can get a little repetitive I love how the plots are always twisted to the author's liking. The books are rarely complete mostly, because of the authors' lifestyle, whether they have too much to do in school or their interest goes to another story they have been writing. The incompleteness irks me since that means I would not know what is going to happen. I try to stay away from the unfinished tales, nevertheless, I end up with one in my reading list anyway. The story I am currently interested in is incomplete, that is only
The short sci-fi story All Summer in A Day by Ray Bradbury is about being treated as an outcast and reveals the alienating effects that it may have. Sometimes this treatment is brought on by others. In this case, Margot is treated in this harsh manner because she isn’t the same as her classmates and they desire to have the life experiences that she has. Being outcast may not be the only main theme for this story in each reader’s mind. All Summer in A Day provides a multitude of possible themes. This may be the case, however, the children’s physical and emotional abuse of Margot is extreme and justifies this theme. As the time draws nearer for the sun to rise, Margot’s classmates become more brash and crue and at that moment, Margot is exponentially different from the other children in hr class. This concept of being outcast and
We have observed two different short stories, one called “Examination Day” by Henry Slesar, and another called “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury. “Examination Day” is about how when a person becomes 12 years old they have to take an examination determining their intelligence. Anyone with an intelligence above the norm is considered unacceptable. Anyone smarter than the norm is eliminated. The story focuses on a very intelligent boy taking his Examination, and getting killed for being too smart. The story “All Summer in a Day” is about a colony on Venus that faces constant rain and the sun shining once every 7 years. The story focuses on a girl Margot, from earth who is harassed by the others on Venus since she remembers the sun being
The kids always played near the local woods, filled with abandon little homes and shacks and long pine trees that reached to the sky. As the children shrieked, a flock of crows answered back with a loud “crow.” The children also felt a sense of freedom as flew around the air as the kids began running until their feet ached. The game that they always played was hide-and-seek which only George and the kids only knew.
The wonderful smell of the dew and flowers woke the boys up to get ready for their adventurous day. Junior said that all of us should skip breakfast for today so we could get started for our big journey ahead of us. The three boys started heading west to find the creek that they were chased at from a big brown bear. Walking through forest, Lamar pointed out all of the beautiful flowers and the very big ferns the that they walked by. Smelling the fresh air the boys were filled with awe. After a couple of miles Jeff and Koby saw a brown figure about fifty yards away from where they were walking. Squinting their eyes as they got closer to the strange figure they found out that is was the brown bear that chased them through the woods. Slowly walking past the brown bear Junior stepped on a tree limb and a crack filled the forest. Birds flying out of their nests, and the bear stared directly at Koby. While the bear slowly made its way over to the boys, they made a break for it. Running into tons of tree limbs, thorn bushes, and tall grasses Lamar was starting to lose his breath, so all of them slowed down and helped Jeff get back up. Running and running more the boys found an open valley with a dirt road with a creek right beside it. Dragonflies zooming every and the water spiders were gliding across the water. The four boys were blessed to be back at the creek. Jumping up and down the four boys were filled with lots of joy because they found their way back from the forest. Jeff, Koby, Junior, and Lamar walked down the dusty, dirt trail. When they got to the highway Jeff and Lamar went north and Koby and Junior went south to their houses. All of the boys told their story of how they were chased by a big brown bear in the forest to their parents at the dinner table. They were glad to be home now, safe and sound. When the night passed by, everyone woke up, ate breakfast, and hung out at the park for the
Hey guys Artisy here how are all of you doing? I hope well. So I know this chapter is late, but I needed some time for family issues that are going, on, for me and my EOG is next week, so I've been really busy, but dont worry summer is coming soon, so more chapters yay, and hopeful I'll be able to finish one of my books during the summer because I have, so many story ideas, and ones that are in progress, but enough about that let's get onto the story, and please comment what you think about what happens in the chapter.
I’ve been here, in the middle of the Arizona desert, stranded for 15 days. If I don’t find water soon, this might be the last you’ll hear from me. Many nights I have slept with a big palm tree leaf I had found after the crash. Cactus has been my only source of food this rough, long period of time, and had been drinking through my sock, for clean water, with damp soil. It’s been forever since I've been so tired been of prickly pears.
Sunny Arizona sun on your back, the smell of over priced food like hot dogs, peanuts, and cotton candy. The sound of baseball's hitting the fresh wood of bats. The sight of the best players in the league it’s time for baseball.
Sunlight is beaming through the window as the alarm clock beeps louder and louder. The first day jitters have begun. Just a little over two months ago, fourth grade came to an end for Emily and summer vacation began. But, where did the summer go? Long days spent at the beach buried in the sand; seem like a distant memory. Fifth grade has become the reality and being a middle school student is still sinking in.
It all began with a simple phone call one night around two in the morning. I glanced down at my phone, the name “Summer“ illuminating the screen. As I hesitated to answer the phone, I thought of the nice quiet evening at home, I would have if I rejected the call. I could sleep, and not have another stupid adventure with “ “
After examining both movie and short story I have come to realize that the short story was a better representation of “All Summer in a Day.” I have decided that the short story was more descriptive as well as intriguing. The jungles that covered Venus seemed so pleasurable. In the short story when the sun came out you could imagine playing with your friends in an enchanted jungle. In the movie the director didn’t capture the moment when the kids were playing in a jungle. The director had more of a forest location than a jungle. Also I didn’t take joy in the movie, because it didn’t have the amazing underground city, nor the mechanization or technology to appreciate the movie. Last but not least the ending in the movie was irrevocable.
My memory-filled summer consisted of many things that kept me busy, but having fun. I attended 4-H Camp Ohio for my third year as a counselor and my ninth year overall this summer. Band camp filled the last four weeks of my summer with hot days and sore arms; however, going out to grab a bite to eat with my friends after every six-to-nine rehearsal made the night more bearable. Trips to Michigan to see family and camping trips to Butler to go kayaking also made my summer remarkable.
I take a deep breath, my nostrils are filled with the pleasant aroma of the salty sea air. This is my happy place, this is where I belong. As I sit with my freshly painted pink toes in the sand, I am overwhelmed with all that is happening around me. To my right, there is a family of four; a mother, father, and two little red headed girls that look like twins, laughing and jumping around, taking in the big world around them. The children are in their bright red and purple flowered bathing suits, running and screaming, attempting to get their toes wet in the chilly water that churns back and forth on the shore. After a few attempts they decide to run and jump full force into the crystal clear abyss, unaware of what creatures they could find if they dive deep enough.
The warm breeze of the ocean air flies past my face. The heat of the yellow sun was sizzling, beating down against my skin, tanning and burning it within seconds. Beach goers were crowded around in all directions. Seagulls gliding past the groups of people, scouting for dropped or forgotten food to eat. Their little footprints marking a trail in the sand all over the place, going in a million different directions, searching for their next meal. I take in the exquisiteness of it all, the blue-green waves crashing into the sandy shore, making white foam and bubbles wash into the sea, little boys and girls that are digging in the bright white sand running away from the small waves before they get wet. The beach is a stunning place to be; there's just something about the ocean waves and the sand between my toes that makes me just want to stay there forever.
