Presenting Results
A research can only be effective if the researcher is able to present the results successfully and proficiently to their audience. For this reason, it is important to research topics that you are knowledgeable about and interested in emerging an educational hypotheses question for research. In the TED talk presentation, Susan Cain presented an excellent presentation on, “The power of introverts”, a topic that she had experience, observed and researched and for many years. The topic is one in which she is passionate about, it took her seven years to write and complete the book Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking. Thus, this research was clearly described by Ms. Cain and the important of the
Susan Cain, a well known and appreciated writer from America in the field of psychology, recently held a speech on one of the famous TED talks and entirely captured me by trying to give the audience an understanding of introversion.
Susan Cain’s Ted Talk The Power Of Introverts brought a new conversation to society in how introverts are treated. Five years ago (when this took place) this topic was not very well discussed, which made this piece very eye opening for some. Using Aristotle's appeals: logos and pathos, as well as a comparative argument in her ted talk, Cain persuades viewers that we as a society oppress/shame introverts, not allowing them to strive or be themselves in our now extroverted society. She advocates for a more balanced society that serves both introverts and extroverts instead of just extroverts.
According to the course syllabus we were introduced to the techniques of psychological research. This course was able to provide an understanding of how research is done, and what methods we can use to do so. By having a clear understanding of research and techniques used, it allows us to communicate effectively in regards to ideas behind the research process. In this paper, I will use myself as the case study to examine exactly what I learned about research.
Critically evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of introspection as a method for investigating psychological phenomenon
In her article Shyness: Evolutionary Tactic? author Susan Cain addresses many of the preconceived notions society has against introverted people. Cain argues that society tends to favor the outgoing and extroverted and shames those who prefer to be alone rather than socialize. The author utilizes certain writing strategies as a way to change her audience’s original views surrounding introversion. Cain’s use of comparing and contrasting, specific examples, and strong transitions that bridge various ideas to each other make her argument, that introverts are essential to society, much more persuasive.
Shy? Or Social Anxiety DIsorder? Susan wolf interprets a meaningful life as one that has within the basis of an affirmative answer to the basis for an affirmative answer to the needs or belonging that are characteristically described as needs of meaning. She described meaningful lives as lives of active engagement in project worth. Which she divided into groups, first is ‘’active engagement’’ and project worth.
Susan Cain is an honors graduate of Princeton and Harvard Law School. Since graduating Cain has become the chief revolutionary and co-founder of the Quiet Revolution and the co-founder of the Quiet Schools Network and the Quiet Leadership Institute. The goal of the Quiet Revolution is to unlock the power of introverts for the benefits of everyone which was discussed in the TED talk that is being analyzed in this essay. The TED talk “The power of introverts” has been viewed over 17 million times and was named one of Bill Gates all-time favorite talks. The purpose of this speech was to inform the audience about how introversion is not what most people make it out to be. Throughout her speech, Cain compares and contrast introversion with extroversion and

My initial thoughts towards behavioral research did not encompass a complete understanding of its significance. Thus, there was a feeling of ambiguity towards its relevance, especially in the scope of everyday life. However, after reading Chapters 1 and 2 of Methods in Behavioral Research, the necessity for behavioral research became more defined. Specifically, the findings accumulated through research can be applied in various aspects of life, such as aiding mental health professionals in patient care decisions, developing educational programs, and influencing Supreme Court decisions (Cozby & Bates, 2012).
I’m inspired by Susan Anderson because of the hard struggles she must have had to come through. Susan Anderson was a doctor in the late 1800. Anderson was born January 31, 1870 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and later decided to move to Kansas. Her parents divorced when she was a child. She lived with her father, younger brother, and grandmother. After her graduation from high school in 1891 she and her family moved to Cripple Creek, Colorado. Anderson was convinced by her father to go to medical school, She graduated in 1897.
What is it about some people that make others just stop whatever they are doing and listen to their words? Well, it is more than just magnetism, it is strategy. There are many tools and techniques to employ when writing or speaking to connect with one’s audience. Ethos, pathos, and logos are a simple but effective representation of these techniques. In her passionate TED talk, “The Power of Introverts”, Susan Cain employs many rhetorical strategies that allow her to connect with her audience and make her talk more powerful.
I began my research by going straight for an answer to my question: Are there any benefits of being an introvert in high school? I ran into an article titled “5 inherent benefits of being an introvert” by Jordan Gray, a public speaker and relationship coach with a decade of practice, in the website Business Insider. According to Gray, there are benefits in intimate/social relationships. He then lists five of the benefits and that helped in my research because it was exactly what I needed for my research question. I learned more about introverts because of Gray’s list since I have seen introverts in my school. One of the things that Gray mentions is that introverts are “world-class” listeners. I am not even surprised by this because I have noticed
I chose to go with a popular topic, Gender differences. The research began with a game where the average twenty year old would play with friends, "drinking games". Such as "Never have I ever" or "Beer Pong". Research by Hone, Carter, and McCullough (2013) indicated that men are more active drinking game participants rather than woman. Hone et al. (2013) found that most of these men are more competitive and it motivates them to participate in the games in order to show off and prove to the woman that they are capable. Genders are different, some men are more aggressive, some women are more sentimental. It really all depends, that is the beauty of research studies, it is to dig deeper and to find the reason why everything
Before I started to research for my project, I had a little background knowledge on my topic. I knew a little about the brain and emotions, since last year in science we learnt a bit about it, but we didn’t go into any real depth. Prior to the research I knew that the amygdala, hypothalamus and pituitary gland help in producing emotions, and what an introvert and what an extravert is, but not in any real detail; I didn’t know what causes people to become an introvert or an extravert, or all of the different parts of the brain that help to create emotions and interact with others. What I needed to know was the neurological and psychological differences between introverts and extraverts, all the parts of our brain that helps us to interact
