For starters, your lungs are what help you breath, they are cone-shaped and are located in the chest by your rib cage area. The lungs are what bring the oxygen in the body when you breath in, but when you breath out they release all the carbon dioxide, which is a waste product basically for your body. Your lungs basically look pink and rubbery on the outside but are like sponges on the inside. Now what is cancer….
Cancer is cells that aren’t normal or strange and they spread to different tissues. It can start anywhere in the body and then if it isn’t found can spread to various spots in your body. There are various different kinds of cancer, it can depend on how fast they grow or how fast they spread.

The main reason for lung cancer is smoking, sometimes non smokers just breathing in the second hand smoke. The cigarette itself is not only packed with cancerous chemicals but also chemicals that can “disarm” the lungs defense system. There are these tiny hairs the line the airways and they are called cilia. The hairs are suppose to block out toxins, bacteria, and viruses. The smoke from the tobacco stops the tiny hairs from doing their job. When the smoke stops the cilia it allows the cancerous chemicals to build up in the lungs.
Smoking is not the only risk factor that causes lung cancer though. Asbestos and radon gas are other risk factors on getting lung cancer. Even work environments are areas that you can breathe in stuff that you aren’t suppose to. Air pollution can also be another risk factor on getting lung cancer as well. Experts believe that pollution from factories, power plants, and cars can affect the lungs like second hand smoke does. In the world air pollution has probably caused 223,000 lung cancer deaths. Depending on how long you waited to see if you had lung cancer is what stage you are. There are a couple ways of getting treated for lung cancer and they can include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, biological therapy, and some newer ways that are being experimented now.
