A person who bullies others usually does it because of how they are treated at home or have had a traumatic experience. Statistics show that over 3.2 million students are bullied each year and only 1 in 4 situation are noticed, by teachers or adults. Many people believe that it is not the bullies fault but the person being bullied because they are not “normal” like the rest of he students. For my Unit 2 project I focused on a major social problem that affects millions of children every year, bullying. I chose a wonderful nonprofit organization that helps children who are being bullied. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines the verb “bully” as “to treat abusively” (Merriam-Webster). There is more than one way to abuse someone. Bullying is a very serious issue that is happening to many students across the world. More than one out of every five students have reported that they were once bullied. People have seen how much bullying affects people; with a study showing at least half of suicide attempts relating to bullying. But are we too quick to cry bully? Bullies should not be legally punished, because many times meaningless teasing is mistaken for bullying and bullies are usually far too young to realize the consequences of their actions.

In American culture bullying is a sensitive topic for many kids and even adults in our society. Bullying is one of the biggest national issues our country has with our youth. Many kids or even teenagers that are bullied can experience depression, poor sleeping patterns, and even attempting or committing suicide. Bullying can affect a person's life forever, so the consequences that bullies receives should be much greater than what they are now. I was a victim of bullying but with the guidance from my family and God helped me overcome what I went through.

The bully could lose the trust of their loving family.
