Technology and Education
Webster’s New World Dictionary defines technology as "the science of the practical or industrial arts." In the context of using technology in schools this generally refers to the use of computers and computer technology as tools and aids to help teachers teach and students learn. What technology is has changed significantly over the years. In the early 1800’s the chalkboard was new technology in schools. For today’s new technology we have interactive multimedia presentations. Today’s teacher faces the same dilemma as the teacher at the turn of the nineteenth century; what do I do with the new technology?
How can technology increase learning?
One way that technology can help to students learn is that it

There are many different technological tools available to help disabled students be involved and interact in the classroom, as well as learn at their own pace using computer assistance tools. These tools help the teacher by making it easier to communicate with the student and help the student by helping them fit in and learn at a similar pace as the rest of the class.
What types of technology are available to teachers?
The technology available to teachers varies greatly from one school district to another. This is one area where the amount of funding available has an enormous impact. In poorly funded school districts the teachers and students may be lucky to have a personal computer available that is connected to the Internet. On the other hand, private schools or school systems located in affluent areas may have Internet connected personal computers for each teacher and student. Ideally, all teachers and students would have available all of the technological tools that they need to prepare them for the future.
Teachers have several tools available to help them do their job more efficiently. They can use tools from simple spreadsheets to complex databases to track and help evaluate student performance. These tools can make it easier for teachers to spot students who need more personal attention or who may be candidates for acceleration. Any tool
Technology keeps developing a lot as time goes by and we are just trying to keep up with it. Recent history shows how much the Internet has grown with the use of cellphones you can now know exactly where to go and order food. From reading this article I agree, “The future will be filled with exponential change”(Ohler). One that never seems to change is sharing Information and communicating with each other. People have communicating with each other for ages. This in fact ties back to our ancestors, which ancient and present humans used communication for stability, education, survival and expression.
Technology of the past 20 years has become a focal point of teaching and learning. As a teacher, it is my job to facilitate the learning for an individual by creating an environment that not only conducive for learning, but also places the child in a position to discover and learn them for themselves. Technology has given teachers to opportunity to take learning beyond the classroom, and has begun to reshape their role in the learning process.
“Seventy-four of educators support the use of technology in schools” (“Teaching with Technology”). Without technology being available all the time, students and teachers would not be able to communicate as well and thoroughly, research, get as much help, turn in class assignments on a timely manner, diverse learning styles, and prepare for either college or their career. Students should be able to use the devices or whatever they have in their classrooms if it benefits them and their school work.
Over the last decade technology has become increasingly integrated into school systems. As this happens school have to weigh many factors and make a choice about the level of technology to integrate. Factors such as cost, the values of these tools, and how children (and adults) are impacted by this bombardment of information all play a role as important factors in this progress. First of all, cost is referring to what us given up with the lack of traditional textbooks. A technology-focused environment risks giving up the benefits of physical sources.
The use of technology in educating children with special needs has widely grown in the past few decades, and has since has changed the way people with disabilities live, work, and learn” (Winzer, 2002, p. 98). Individuals with special needs are unique and all have different areas in which they need assistance. Due to the advancements in assistive technology, computer programs, software, and other technology tools, have helped people to find useful and easier ways to become educated.
In reviewing research regarding the use of technology in the classroom, there is a wealth of information available that varies from the extent of technology to the type of technology used in the classrooms. In order to identify and narrow the topic, it is important to look at the available research and the areas which need additional studies. The area of interest is specifically the use of technology with English Language Learners (ELL). However, in order to focus the research in that particular area, a broader view is necessary. The purpose of this paper is to review the annotated bibliography created in the previous assignment and discuss specific areas such as theories, relationships and possible gaps or contradictions.

eLearning software is a collection of web-based software that allows students to view information related to their coursework and submit assignments to their professors. Some of this online education software also allows for additional collaboration and learning tools. eLearning software is becoming increasingly important, and is nearly essential for modern education in the digital age. However, this technology is largely unrefined and as such, has problems; problems that can be overcome.
Very often, people understand this term to mean computer, but technology itself is just as diverse as its applications. It certainly applies to the use of computers in education, but educational technology expands greatly beyond this one application, to video production, distance learning, smart classrooms and a wide range of additional applications. “Each type of technology has different uses and fulfills different learning goals” (Critical Issue: Using Technology to Improve Student Achievement). Being that technology is a difficult word to clearly define, it is best to define specific technologies by the basis of their application rather than by one vague generalization.
Today’s education differs much from the education fifty years ago. One of the reasons they are so different is because of technology. In the past fifty years the world of technology has grown tremendously, affecting everything, including education. A few things that have been brought into the world of education are computers, video and digital equipment such as DVDs, digital cameras and recording devices. The technology also includes information presentation technologies which includes the Smart Board, and different interactive whiteboards. There are many more that schools did not have fifty years ago.
Technology not only affects students, but also teachers. Resources such as voice mail, email, and the World Wide Web all aid teachers in informing parents of upcoming events, responding to students and their questions, and searching for information. There are also technology tools
Technology affects every aspect of our lives. From romance to business, it has shown its presence everywhere. But technology has had a huge impact on education that cannot be denied, and has done nothing but improve the quality and quantity of education.
Education is one of the most important professions in the working world. Technology has done many things for us in today’s society especially for education and schools. Technology in the school system has impacted the students and teachers in many positive ways, including virtual field trips, testing tips, teacher resources, class web sites, and lesson plans. With computer use in our schools, we have access to many different sources and various types of learning.
Research over the past 40 years has shown conclusively that technology-based methods are usually superior to traditional ones.
The education world has been greatly influenced by rapidly changing technology and the increasing availability of information. Schools have advanced by leaps and bounds when it comes to incorporating technology into the learning environment, however, many more advances need to be made. In all areas of the country, educators are trying to help students keep up with technology, but there are more changes that are essential for preparing the next generation for the future.
