Tension headache
Headache Classification Committee of the International Headache Society defines a tension headache as pain that is bilateral, pressing, or tightening in quality and non-pulsating, of mild or moderate intensity, which does not worsen with routine physical activity (such as walking or climbing stairs); and without moderate/severe nausea or vomiting.27 Tension headache was found linked to neck muscle weakness. Patients with tension-type headache have a relatively weak neck extension which results in a reduced ratio between extension and flexion.28 Also, patients have active trigger points in Trapezius muscle resulting in neck pain. 29

The first symptoms of AS usually appear in late adolescence or early adulthood. The initial symptom includes a dull pain presenting as back pain or stiffness. Neck pain is seen in advanced disease. There will be loss of spinal mobility with restriction of ROM. The most serious complication of AS is spinal fracture. Even minor trauma can cause severe damage. The cervical spine is the most susceptible fracture; which can result in quadriplegia. 37
Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain syndrome. The most common manifestations of fibromyalgia are pain which is widely spread, muscle tenderness, altered sleep, fatigue and depressed mood. It affects 2-7% of the general population and predominantly affects females. Psychosocial factors contribute to the development and maintenance of fibromyalgia and these patients perceives factors like emotional stress and mental stress as most relevant for worsening their symptoms. Neck pain is a common presenting complaint of these patients with the involvement of Trapezius muscle spasm and tenderness.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain disorder that has not been studied much in the medical field. The cause of this condition is unknown is more common in women and create a poor quality of life and disabilities due to the constant fear of having pain. Fibromyalgia has been identified as a disease that attacks the central nervous system. When attacking the nerves the patients pain pathways are firing more often than they should which creates a constant pain. One method being trialed in studies has shown an improvement in pain levels is a treatment called TENS or transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. This TENS unit creates electric stimulation in patients nerves to help relieve the pain pathways that are triggered to signal the brain the body feels pain. Fibromyalgia has also been linked to other diseases like: osteo¬arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and lupus.
“Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. Researchers believe that fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way your brain processes pain signals (Mayoclinic Staff, 2015).” There are several theories as to why this pain continues to exist post treatment. Researchers have postulated that this disease process amplifies painful sensations in your brain, others retain that it acts like an arthritic condition as it degrades the joint capsule and most soft tissue within. These patients can display a wide variety of symptoms ranging from sleep problems and fatigue, to pain and muscle spasms and or muscle
Fibromyalgia is a chronic musculoskeletal syndrome that is characterized by diffuse pain, fatigue, increased sensitivity to touch, the absence of systemic or localized inflammation, the presence of fatigue, non restorative sleep, anxiety, and depression (Huether & McCance, 2017, p. 1022).
Fibromyalgia is typically very painful and the aching beings around the neck and shoulders, eventually involving the chest, back, arms, hips, and legs. Fibromyalgia often causes the victim to be depressed, have sleeping problems, and be fatigued. Many women suffer from health complications such
Some of the most common places fibromyalgia will cause pain in is joints, abdomen, back, or neck. The pain types can be chronic, diffused, sharp, or severe. Fibromyalgia can also cause mood swings, insomnia, fatigue, pins and needles, depression, headache, irritability, joint stiffness, nervousness, painful menstruation, back pain spasms, or tingling feet. That is just a short list of symptoms. Fibromyalgia is what doctors diagnose patients with when they have pain and do not know what is causing it. Misdiagnoses could also be Lupus, Lyme disease, Arthritis, and Sleep
Fibromyalgia is a persistent pain disorder that affects multiple parts of a person’s body that typically occurs between ages thirty and fifty years old (Glennon, 2010). The disorder is seven times more common in females than males and may occur in as much as 8% of the women within their lifetimes (Arnold et al., 2008). While general knowledge on fibromyalgia has increased since the American College of Rheumatology’s first report in 1990 (Clauw et al., 2011), the etiology and exact psychophysiological process creating the disorder is still yet to be determined (Ryan, 2013).
Fibromyalgia is ".... the most common musculoskeletal condition after osteoarthritis. Still, it is often misdiagnosed and misunderstood. Its characteristics include widespread muscle and joint pain and fatigue, as well as other symptoms." "(WebMD.com)" Fibromyalgia is a horrific condition which "affects relationships, parenting duties, and life decisions of people afflicted with the chronic pain disorder. Fibromyalgia is characterized by widespread muscle tenderness and pain, fatigue, and sleep problems. The cause is unclear, but abnormalities in the way the body responds to and processes pain may play a role." "(WebMD.com)". Also "Fibromyalgia (fi-bro-my-AL-ja) syndrome (FMS) produces chronic body-wide pain, which migrates and can be felt from head to toe. Other symptoms include persistent fatigue, headaches, cognitive or memory impairment, morning stiffness and non-restorative sleep. The pain can migrate from day to day. Recent scientific research studies have shown central nervous system involvement in FMS." "(NFRA - What is fibromyalgia?)". Now you may be thinking "Why should I donate to a charity when it seems like such a horrible thing would be very rare?" While lemme tell ya something according to a study "Scientists estimate that fibromyalgia affects 5 million Americans 18 or older. Between 80 and 90 percent of people diagnosed with
In a literal translation fibromyalgia means muscle fiber pain. It is a chronic pain disorder that causes pain and tenderness in the muscle to the touch. By affecting the way your brain processes pain signals, researchers believe that fibromyalgia amplifies those sensations. Robert Bennett MD, explains that different parts of the brain are involved in pain reactions. Pain sensation is necessary; it serves as a reflex to avoid discomfort. This unconscious reflex of avoidance causes the brain to swiftly react, before the actual awareness of the pain sensation occurs. This chronic disorder causes widespread body pain, fatigue, tension headache, digestive problems, depression, anxiety and temporomandibular joint disorder. To have an accurate diagnosis for fibromyalgia health professionals rely on physical examination, a precise tender point examination, and the patient’s history.
A sinus headache occurs when the paranasal sinuses become clogged or swollen. Paranasal sinuses are air pockets within the bones of the face. Sinus headaches can range from mild to severe.
Fibromyalgia is a painful, chronic disorder that affects every day life of patients. This debilitating disorder is widely misunderstood and misdiagnosed. The two combining forms in fibromyalgia are “fibro”, which means fiber, and “my/o”, which means muscle (Olson, 2015). The suffix “-algia” translates to pain. When put together, fibromyalgia is defined as pain of muscles and connective tissue structures (Merriam-Webster). This chronic condition causes pain at specific points throughout the whole body, making the pain widespread.
Fibromyalgia was initially thought to be a musculoskeletal syndrome since maximum of the pain was felt in the muscles and other soft tissue. However, recent studies and research have shown that fibromyalgia is a central nervous system ailment which causes uncharacteristic pain processing and leads in pain amplification. The three chief symptoms that are common to virtually everybody who struggles with fibromyalgia are pain, tiredness and sleep disorders.

For the past couple of years, I have witnessed first hand the effects that trigeminal neuralgia does to the human body. My mother was diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia in 2010. She was suffering from the pain of the condition for more than two years before she was correctly diagnosed at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas. My mother always explained her pain as worse than childbirth, and that is because she has had four children. It caused my mom to have multiple sleepless nights, an aching jaws, constant and excruciating pain, and in one extreme incident, her job locked while she was chewing causing her to choke and had to receive the Heimlich maneuver. Being that she said it was the worst pain in her life, my family knew it was something more than chronic migraines: which is what one of the doctors she saw in the Rio Grande Valley diagnosed her with.
Neck pain is quite common, can be burdensome, and costly. One-year prevalence (Hogg-Johnson et al. 2008, Hoy et al. 2010) of neck pain (common) and activity-limiting neck pain (less common) ranged from 30%-50% and 2-11% respectively. The prevalence is higher in women (Kääriä et al. 2012) and is highest in the middle age. Out of 289 causes of disability worldwide and
