Personality refers to a distinctive set of traits, behavior styles and patterns that constitute our character or individuality. How we see the world or attitudes, thoughts, and feelings are all part of our personality. Individuals with healthy personalities are able to manage with average pressures and have no difficulty establishing connections with family, friends, and co-workers. A personality disorder is a form of mental disorder in which you have an unbending and unhealthy way of thinking, functioning, and behaving. An individual with a personality disorder has difficulty identifying and connecting to situations and to individuals. Excessive social discomfort, timidity, fear of criticism, avoidance of social or work activities that involve interpersonal contact are characteristic of the avoidant personality. They are fearful of saying something considered foolish by others; worry they will blush or cry in front of others; and are very hurt by any disapproval by others. People with avoidant personality disorder may have no close relationships outside of their family circle, although they would like to, and are upset at their inability to relate well to others. Elsa from Frozen is a great example of a character with Avoidant personality disorder. Elsa has avoidant personality disorder because she wants a normal sister relationship with Anna, but she is so scared that if she opens up, then she could end up hurting her sister, and she doesn't want everyone to disapprove of her. She shuts herself out from everyone's lives despite her want to be a beloved queen, just because she is afraid of what people will think of her if she loses
