From ancient up to now, peer group plays a vital role in our life. It not only actuates the economic of each country but also creates some competition with others. So, What is Peer group? Peer group is a group of people who share some social particularity such ass age,occupation, education or interacts on the level of equality. An individual can a member of sevaral peer group as schoolmate, friends, co-worker... According to the adage “No man is an island”, we are all surrounded by others as our peers who have the same experiences and interests as to ours. Similarly, people are influenced by peers because they want to fit in, to imitate the ones they admire by doing what others are doing, or having what others have. According to a NIDA-funded study by researcher Dr.Thomas Dishion at the University of Oregon Child and Family Center: ” 11- to 14-year-olds at high risk for drug abuse and increasingly serious delinquency who were grouped together for a 12-week program designed to reduce problem behavior actually increased their levels of self-reported smoking and teacher-reported delinquency over 3 years”.
On the other hand, peer group has also many advantages. On the positive side, peers set plenty of good examples for each other. It can help you how self-assessment about yourself and predict on your ways of life. Some of the method that peer group may actually teach you is that way of living. You are probably able to change yourself for the better. What is more, peers can support you make decisions such as what courses to take or even how to resolve some problems in a family such as domestic violence or argument of certain issues. Peers often give each other good advice and might get each other involved in healthy clubs, sports, etc. One’s world would be wealthy if this world has more peers to encourage or to offer support when one needs it
