For decades, America has fought in many different wars with the need of health assistance for their soldiers. The American Red Cross is a worldwide organization that helped during the times of war but also provided a path for scientific advancements. Through the American Red Cross and other organizations of this time, they opened up the doors for women to take the chance to advance in the medical field by participating in scientific experiments and being at the aide of wounded soldiers. During this time of scrutiny, the Great War was a hidden opportunity for the encroachment of medical research with the contribution to the expansion of nursing.
In recent years, the American Red Cross has experienced a number of problems both inside and outside the organization. All these problems can be traced back to one single management problem: the organization’s structure of control. The structure is unorganized and unable to satisfy the organization’s role in society.
Undoubtedly, the American Red Cross has done many wonders over the course of its existence. Whether it is providing relief from disasters, aiding the less fortunate nationally and internationally or saving lives with their blood program, the Red Cross has always been there to help the world become a safer place to live in. Most recently, this organization has had a strong impact in the recovery of “Superstorm” Sandy and Hurricane Isaac, providing food and water, multiple shelters for people that have lost their homes and even counseling during such a devastating time (“Top 20 Accomplishments”).
The American Red Cross is a major organization in the United States and around the world. Clara Barton founded the American chapter in 1881. She was a public servant who decided to get involved during the civil war by attending to wounded soldiers and feeding them on the battlefield. Her sense of humanitarian work was only strengthened by her trip to Europe during the Franco Prussian war, where she discovered the initiative of Henri Dunant (Reitman, 1996). After the battle of Solfinero, this Swiss banker was shocked by the carnage of war and decided to gather doctors and volunteers around the village to help tend to the wounded. This action motivated him to create a nonpartisan organization that can focus on caring for people wounded in wars and conflicts regardless of their origin. (Reitman, 1996). The organization was ratified in the 1864 Geneva Convention by twelve countries and later by many others. The United States Red Cross was founded due to the efforts of Barton in Washington (Reitman, 1996). The first chapter of the national American Red Cross was created in upstate New York. Later, the organization received funding to create its national headquarters in Washington. Since then, the Red Cross has benefited form a close relationship with Washington as it was created by congressional charter more than a century ago and plays a
The American Red Cross is a large non-profit organization. And the American Red Cross was founded by Clara Barton she was a Nurse Educator in 1881 lets also include that she worked for the US Government too.
The Canadian Red Cross Society is a non-governmental organization that provides food, water, shelter, and survival gear to those in need. I think that they are very helpful because not only do they help Canadians in need, but they also donate the money to help other countries around the world that suffer from medical problems, life-threatening diseases, recent natural disasters...etc. They have programs in different cities, some of the programs include aboriginal support services, community housing support, community support services, emergency and disaster services, first aid and CPR, health equipment loans, migrant and refugee services, nutrition and transportation, senior support services, swimming and water safety, violence, bullying and
It’s amazing how far United States have come along when it comes to caring for an individual that you don’t know, yet you are doing everything in your power to save someone’s life. American Red Cross was founded by Clara Barton on May 21, 1881, but before the American Red Cross came into America it was and international movement that was founded by a young Swiss man named Henry Dunant. To know that 40,000 men are laying dead or alive and wounded from a war that soldiers fought for us in the civil war, yet there were no medical attempts to save lives, made Dunant organize local people to help wounded soldiers. The locals helped with wounded soldiers by feeding, and comforting them when in need. In October 1868 the International Red Cross Movement was created in Geneva, Switzerland and their duty was to provide non-partisan care to the wounded soldiers in time of war. (American Red Cross pg. 12, 2011) After the civil

“Approximately 60% of the U.S. population is eligible to give blood, only 5% do in a given year, according to the American Red Cross.” A common misconception about the American Red Cross is that it is a government agency, but it is not; it is a volunteer organization that thrives off of generous donations and volunteers. Clara Barton played a major role in starting the American Red Cross in America and without her, we wouldn’t have a volunteer organization, blood donation program, disaster program, and lifesaving training programs devoted to helping people worldwide in times of need.
As one of the United States first humanitarian organizations, the American Red Cross has been dedicated to helping citizens in need throughout our nation. And according to American Red Cross History, they have helped others throughout the world, in association with other Red Cross networks. The American Red Cross depends on the generous contributions of time, blood, and money from our nation’s public to support their lifesaving services and programs.
This course covered many important topics helpful in understanding learning organizations. This paper will incorporate real-life situations from my organization, The American Red Cross. It will focus on three areas I found to be most helpful and relevant to my experience which is the understanding of systems thinking, growth, and the need to practice reflection.
Knowledge Management (KM) purpose is to share information amongst a community. To effectively share that information, people or cultures need to be committed to KM processes using state-of-the art technology. The Army has given guidance to commanders in the form of twelve KM principles, intended to facilitate KM efforts and policies. After reviewing the twelve KM principles, I have chosen four to elaborate on my understanding of the principle and why I believe the Army as a whole has shortcomings in achieving the intent of each principle. Lack of leadership commitment, vision and resource investment has undermined the proper implementation and execution of the Army KM principles, affecting the Army’s ability to effectively and efficiently share valuable information.
Within the Army organizations of today knowledge management plays a huge role in the dissemination of information to the unit and it’s soldiers. This is no different for the aviation unit in which I operate. This information can be found in FM 6-01.1, Knowledge Management Operations. It defines knowledge management as the process of enabling knowledge flow to enhance shared understanding, learning, and decision-making. But when the unit was surveyed about their understanding of knowledge management the results were surprising.
Organisational learning can be seen as the goal of knowledge management and may be obtained by good knowledge management strategies and processes. By motivating the creation, dissemination and application of knowledge, KM initiatives pay off by helping the organization embed knowledge into organisational processes so that it can continuously improve its practices and behaviours and pursue the achievement of its goals.
