For one thing, it is necessary to impress the equal importance of all the tasks on my team members - there are no good tasks or bad tasks, but only the most suitable tasks and other less suitable tasks for you. For another, encouragement and incitement are essential to inspiring members’ enthusiasm in their assigned duties. With regard to motivation, the coordinator should offer the other team members with opportunities to fulfill themselves, as well as enough room for improvement. All in all, I am going to assist my team members in sharing a tacit notion that “I am designated to undertake this part not because my ability is outstanding or just the opposite, but because I can better fulfill this role than the other team members do, as far as the task itself is concerned.”

Knowing your own Belbin team role allows you to acknowledge your strengths and weaknesses thus helping you focus on what you need to do to improve. From doing the personality questionnaire I was identified as an implementer and a shaper at similar high scores, however the rest of my scores were evenly spread across the remaining 6 roles. I interpret this as in a group I would fit into the role of planning and carrying out strategies in a resourceful way, whilst providing drive to the team to keep the momentum. Roles and responsibilities – It is possible that during the project development some staff may have difficulty in defining their roles within the team or were not part of the role development process that takes place during the forming stage of Tuckman’s team development model. It is also likely within the project team to have duplication of roles/function, even though Belbin’s Team roles model may have been used. However it is not a pre-requisite that all team must have the nine roles specific by Belbin. ‘Team members can take on more than one role and some roles are not necessary in certain teams’. Each member of the team has a purpose and a function within that team, so the overall success depends on a functional interdependency. There is usually not as much room for conflict when working as a team. The team also does not rely on groupthink to arrive at its conclusions.

Role of the Coordinator: The coordinator of a SDT will serve various roles based on the need of the team. These roles may include acting as a directive leader, a coach, a supportive leader and as a delegating leader. The coordinator provides the team with resources and information required for decision making.
Working in a group can be very difficult at times. Different people with different views may not always agree which one another. Throughout the various task I played the communicator. I made sure everyone was on track on what we wanted to do. I also made sure people was okay and happy in the role they was playing in the group. My group worked together in collecting ideas from one another and making it into one.
This theory is a combined of two influential theories on group behavior, which Kenneth Benne and Paul Sheats have wrote in article of ‘’Functional Roles of Group Members’’ in 1940. This theory worked in some teams that are effective in some but for some it isn’t. Their work influenced other earlier research and thinking about the function of group. The have researched more recently and have refined many ideas. Group roles are extremely useful and interesting in the way of looking at the behavior of the team. 26 different group role have been defined which can be played by one or more people within a group depends on that person’s skill.
