The first time the phrase the number one rule of magic is to be the smartest person in the was when Atlas was arrested. after his interrogation scene and when he magically transfers the handcuffs to the other Dylan’s hands Atlas proclaimed this number one rule. which was true at the time because of the tricks that he could perform in the interrogation room. Corruption is dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power, typically involving bribery while greed is defined as intense and selfish desire for something, especially wealth and power, according to Oxford Dictionary. The film Chinatown directed by Roman Polanski embodies these underlying tones of corruption and greed. The main focus of corruption and greed in the film is Noah Cross. He murders Hollis Mulwray for greed and attempts to flee from police to add to the corruption. Polanski vision and perspective made the film innovative.
Walt was good at his job and doing well to perform his duties, but then few things happened around him, which changed his whole life. The first thing or event was corruption, which he was seeing around him in his company. The second thing was to see the superiors also doing corruption and looting money from the company accounts. And third thing was customers of the company. He saw that even customers don’t pay up their money to the company, but still company is bearing them, so he thought if customers are free to do so, then why he cannot do so. He saw that rules are being broken everywhere, so he thought to do so as well. These three events became the major factors for Walt to think about committing a crime
During the Vietnam War in the 1970s, hard drugs, especially heroin and cocaine, became a major source of crime and, therefore, police and legal system involvement. Was this involvement always a good thing though? The 2007 movie, American Gangster, addresses this very question by looking at law enforcement agencies during the 1970s, along with the corruption involved with police departments at this point in history. The particular corrupted agency focused on in the film is the New York Police Department, of which dirty detective, Nick Trupo, is a part of. The short clip shown from this movie makes the argument that although not all cops during this time became involved in the very crime they were supposed to be stopping, a large percentage of them did, which hindered the true “good guys,” like detective Richie Roberts, from keeping cities clean.
The movie “12 Angry Men” covers different negotiation and conflict resolutions. The communication is set in a jury room where people with different worldview are bargaining over the judgment of a murder case. Juror 8 is willing to stand alone with his vote “not guilty”. Trying to avoid the winner’s course, he demanded a conversation about the case despite the clear 11-1 vote on the guilt of the defendant. Juror 8 discredits his opponents’ arguments and uncovers their constraint thinking, he uncovering doubtful evidence, alienating hardliners and engaging in conversations. In the conversation it becomes obvious that not every juror bases his decision on the same facts, and
“The Conspirator”directed by Robert Redford is a new historical drama. The basic ethical and political problems are the murder of the president and the simultaneous coordinated attempts on the lives of Vice President Andrew Johnson and Secretary of State William H. Seward which throw Washington into panic. After John Wilkes Booth is killed in a shootout with soldiers, his fellow plotters are arrested and tried, not by a jury of their peers but by a committee of officers.
The movie “American Gangster” is a very good Hollywood portrayal of a man named Frank Lucas. Frank Lucas was played by Denzel Washington with Russell Crowe playing Richie Roberts, who was the cop investigating the heroin distribution. During the 1960’s into the 1970’s, distribution of heroin in New York was at one of the greatest peaks of all time. Frank Lucas had a great mentor, whose name was Bumpy Johnson. Bumpy was a career criminal who spent most of his life in prison until he became a mob boss in the Harlem neighborhood in New York City. From there, he taught Frank everything he knew for 15 years until he died of heart failure. When Bumpy died, Frank Lucas turned his past mentorship and knowledge into one the biggest heroin distribution businesses in the Harlem neighborhood during these times. One of the most famous things Frank is known for as a drug distributer, was his ability to cut out all the middlemen in the distribution and go directly to the source. He did this because not only did it make him more money, but he was able to sell the heroin for cheaper plus he had the resources to ship the heroin from the Golden Triangle, which is in Southeast Asia, directly to him in New York.
The God Father is a 1972 mafia movie that was based on Mario Puzo’s novel “The God Father”. The movie was created by Francis Ford Coppola, which revolved around the Corleone Family that forms part of the Italian Mafia in New York. The Corleone Family was led by Don Vito Corleone who had three sons one of which Michael refused to take part in the family business; however later at the end of the movie he becomes Vito’s successor and the next God Father. The movie is all about the Family underworld business where it is governed by respect and honor. The family would only show intolerance and ruthlessness to those who break their code of honor and respect.
"Twelve Angry Men" is an interesting story about the evolution of thoughts under life and death circumstances. In the beginning of the story we find that an eighteen-year-old boy is on trial for the murder of his abusive father. A jury of twelve men of different ages is brought together in a closed room in order to deliberate over the facts of the case. If they find the boy guilty, then he will be put to death on an electric chair. As the stories proceeds they realize the gravity of the situation and the implications of their decision.
The movie Remember the Titans directed by Boaz Yakin is based on the racial and social tensions of the South. Alexandria, Virginia. This community was torn apart by racial conflicts, when it was ordered to combine their public schools. Cautiously, the school board replaces the popular white coach, Bill Yoast (Will Patton), with Herman Boone (Denzel Washington), a creditable black coach, as head coach of the T.C Williams Titans Football team. Boone, after the coaching switch up, invites Yoast to come back and join the team while being the new coach of the defensive line. Yoast accepts and together they inspire, not just a team, but the whole town to stop and “trust the soul of a man rather than the look of him”. This paper will cover a critical time in American history, when a 1971 Supreme Court mandate required southern school districts to finally end segregation. The drive to put white and African American children in the same educational classrooms was the most vital and potentially pervasive aspect of the civil-right movement. Based on actual events that happened during that time, the movie Remember the Titans shows it’s audience how to deal with the issue of racism and illustrates how one can overcome prejudice by uniting for a common cause or goal. This movie and essay will not only provide an impacting lesson of racism, but will also teach and provide examples of trust, loyalty, unity, and integrity.
‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ (Wes Anderson, 2014) combines a perfect mix of nostalgia and history. The film explores the themes of war as it recreates history through mise-en-scene. Anderson also incorporates other themes such as racism and elitism during pre-war Europe. The film widely explores Europe from many viewpoints, one of which is of Mr Moustafa. His nostalgia is seen through flashbacks of when he was a lobby boy that went by the name of Zero. As an audience the depth of his nostalgia is seen through mise-en-scene. With the help of cinematography and props we see can see the time and place that Moustafa acknowledges. Anderson shows how history is reimagined through ones nostalgia. Mr Moustafa recalls events, which he was not present in yet he explains them as if he were there. This also shows how one reimagines history from another due to emotions and personal attachment. Despite the outcome being the same there are many viewpoints it can be seen from.
