Another popular platform that businesses have began to take advantage of is Snapchat. Snapchat is a key platform when appealing to younger audiences and is currently the fastest growing network (Adweek). With an estimated 100 million daily users, it’s currently ahead of all of it’s other competitors, even after 4 years. According to Adweek, Snapchat appears to have the most engaged audience. Studies by Mashable found that 45% of college aged Snapchat users would open a Snapchat from a brand they didn’t know, while 73% would open a Snapchat from users they did know. Meanwhile, 69% of those users would be willing to add a brand as a friend on Snapchat, mostly because they follow them on another platform. So how do businesses connect with these users? Sumpto, a marketing company that ran the Mashable study, found that 67% of college Snapchat users would want to receive discounts or promotions from brands via Snapchat while 58% of students would likely purchase a brand’s product or service if they were sent a coupon. Sumpto suggests that brands who utilize Snapchat should start by first sending users who follow them coupons as a way to promote engagement. Snapchat users are 8 times more likely to view Live Stories on the platform than on TV for similar events (Snapchat).

In today's society, social media rules the world and is one of the easiest marketing strategies for younger customers. As stated in The Shallows, when people are interrupted from social media communication they feel out of the loop. "We want to be interrupted, because each interruption brings us a valuable piece of information. To turn off these alerts is to risk feeling out of touch, or even socially isolated," (Carr). I will utilize the societies weakness to my advantage. By using marketing strategies like offering free items from a company if they follow a link through a social media application like Instagram or Facebook. Customers will feel socially isolated if all of their friends received a free item because they were on social media. This marketing strategy would be one of the least expensive types and reaches one of the largest networks of people. Using my skills in statistics I can analyze which social media application gets the most feedback and tell a company which application to put more money into advertising. This not only makes the customers maintain their feeling of being in the loop but increases the company's sales and potentially lowering their advertisement

In the early 2000’s, MySpace became increasingly popular and in 2005 YouTube was created. This was a huge advance in technology, as it allowed users an entirely different and new way for people to share videos globally. A year on, Facebook and Twitter were introduced, and are still the most popular social networking websites. After this, many different social media sites began to surface – Tumblr, Pinterest, Instagram and Spotify, to name a few.
Twenty-seven individuals were surveyed to determine for how many months do they use SnapChat in comparison to their age and if there is a relationship between age and usage of social media apps such as SnapChat. A Pearson’s analysis revealed a moderate negative correlation, r= -.38. Age does have a relation with the number months individuals used SnapChat, as confidence level in our testing is .049, which is lower than 0.05. The results are reported in Exhibit 1.
