Drinking water is a simple idea but such a hard process to master. The water in our lakes and rivers is not safe to drink due to the toxins from vehicles, industrial plants, and natural sources. It is sad how much we take drinking water for granted. In many countries around the world, they do not have easy access to drinking water like we do here in America. In today’s society, when we receive water from a lake or river, it must be treated and cleaned before people can drink it. The drinking water quality has three main properties that give its ability to clean and be able to drink that will not get people sick. These three properties include the chemical makeup, physical properties, and the biological properties of the water quality. The first step of improving the water quality is by using chemicals to clean and get rid of the toxins that might be in the water. Water is a made up of many different chemicals. According to (Scatena 2000), “as water across the landscape, it interacts with its environment through a variety of chemical processes, during these processes it picks up transported dissolved gases, cations and anions, amorphous organics, trace metals, and particulates.” Dissolved Gases are the most abundant on the earth in water. Aquatic life depends on the dissolved oxygen in the water to live but it also effects the color, taste, odor and chemistry. The quality of water in the Great Lakes not only effects the different species living in the lakes, but human health, all over Canada as well. “The five lakes occupy an area greater than half a billion square kilometers, have a shoreline of 17,000 kilometers, and are surrounded by a population of over 33 million.” (Sproule-Jones, Mark., 2002.) Countries must first understand the sources of the polltion, then determine the best methods to eliminate the pollution. Clean drinking water is a valuable resource and a the key to human survival. Plants and animals also depend on water for their growth, so all water must be kept clean. The major contributors to water pollution can be classified in three categories, industrial, agricultural and municipal.
The safety of drinking water is an ongoing concern within the global society. No doubt, the quality of drinking water is the most essential factor. So let’s take a closer look on what is important when we talk about drinking water quality.

The water quality and contamination experiments were examined by using water and certain kinds of pollutants as a model. The effects of groundwater contamination were examined by using common pollutants to see the effect it has on groundwater. We survive off less than 1% of the available fresh water on Earth. Some of the contaminants will have an immediate affect that will immediately make the water unsafe to drink. Some of the contaminants you want be able to see because of the slow filtration system, but you will be able to smell them like the Clorox and vinegar. It will be hard to see because of the same color it has as the water. My water is darker in color now with particles but the dirt/soil smell is not as strong and all of the oil is filtered out as well. (The oil was left in the soil).

As human population continues to grow, we need to understand and determine the effects our habits will have on the ecosystems and our water supply. Four factors that can affect the quality and importance of water are its abilities as a solvent, dipolar, benefits and costs. Acceptance and long-term sustainability of water quality interventions are pivotal to realizing continued health benefits. According to the EPA (2015), “only 3% of the world’s water is suitable for drinking, 2% of which is found in glaciers and ice, so in reality, only 1% of the earth’s water is accessible and potable”.
Water has been very essential to us as humans since mankind has existed. Water is essential for humans because we need it in order to survive. In many cultures water is viewed as having restorative powers and is very important to these kinds of people not just biologically but spiritually as well. However, as humans have progressed their technological advances, water has become an afterthought. Water pollution has become a very big problem within the last century and the issue is only getting worse. As time has gone on mankind’s philosophy about the world’s waters changed and water pollution has gotten worse and come from many sources throughout the years.
Having clean water cannot be exaggerated when it comes to prevent diseases and death. Clean water and sanitization are important elements to ensure human health. The same is right for appropriate wastewater management, which is a basic requirement for environmental health. Indeed, human and environment health impact not only on human but also effect the world economic outcomes.
Have you ever wondered if our drinking water is actually safe to drink? The topic of safe drinking water according to my research isn’t a topic that it’s given that much attention even though there have been events and statistics that have impacted our drinking water. There have been important events such as the chemical spill in Charleston, West Virginia and the ash sludge in Kingston Tennessee in 2008, these kind of events even though they have happen a few years ago still have an impact on our drinking water today. Lauren Russell is an important person because she stated that climate change is another factor that can affect our drinking water because it can impact the quality of the water since climate change is a main world problem it affects everyone 's drinking water. Another big factor of drinking water is what kind of chemicals are in our water that makes it safe for us to drink? I feel like people and I should be informed of the risks that human and natural disasters can do to our sites that we get our drinking water from. And we should also be inform if the chemicals that they put in our drinking water are one hundred percent safe. The reason why I chose this topic is because water is a necessity for every human so if we all get informed about this topic we can enforce better laws that can ensure us the best water quality for us to drink.
The purpose of this report is to propose a solution to the problem of reduced drinking water quality due to chemical pollution. Some bodies of water in the United States are becoming polluted from chemicals and restrictions are needed to protect drinking water quality.
Although very important for survival, water is not exactly treated as it should be. This liquid is continuously wasted on the daily, and the consequences of this end up making others across the planet the victim. These actions allow water to not live up to the expectation of it being “tasteless, odorless, and transparent.”. Due to the fact that water has to go through a lengthy procedure in order to be consumed, there are places around the world where water is anything but crystal-clear. Water quality has the ability to affect human population because it is an essential component of life; if not treated with full respect, this factor has the power to harm society.
There are several types of water pollutants. The first type of water pollutants involves diseases-causing agents. These include viruses, bacteria, and protozoa. The second type of water pollutants is wastes that can be decomposed by oxygen required bacteria. This causes other organisms in water, like fish, to die. Another type of water pollutant is water soluble inorganic substances like acids and salts. These substances will make water hazardous to drink and will cause death to things that live in that same water. Nutrients are also another agent of water pollutant. Nutrients are water-soluble which will cause overgrowth of algae and other plants in water. As a result, to growing algae and plants in water, this will diminish the water’s oxygen supply causing fish to die. Water can be polluted by oil, plastic, and pesticides as well, which are dangerous to not only humans but all animals and plants that correspond to the water.
