Have you ever been so engrossed in a movie that you felt like you were one of the characters? Star Wars fans are a prime example of this phenomenon. Many fans flock to the theater wearing costumes. Another example that may help identify transportation is the audience participation in the movie, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Fans would not only dress as one of the characters, but they would interact with props while the moving was being played. Being so engaged in a movie makes one feel as if they have been transported into the place they are watching. According to the article, Transportation Across Media: Repeated Exposure to Print and Film, "Transportation has three main components: cognitive engagement, emotional engagement, and mental imagery. The self-report transportation scale includes items tapping each of these dimensions, but prior research with the scale suggests that all three aspects combine to produce transportation effects (Green & Brock, 2000)." (Media Psychology, 2008) The idea of one being able to feel as if they are transported into another world may seem absurd to some, but the reality is we all enjoy movies because it somehow sends our minds to another world for a short time.
