These past 4 years have been challenging but very rewarding. Many things in my personal life have changed but nursing is something that has always been a steady and positive relationship. I enjoy being able to make such an impact on someone’s life. As stated in the test plan Nursing is both an art and a science, founded on a professional body of knowledge that integrates concepts from the liberal arts and the biological, physical, psychological and social sciences. It is a learned profession based on knowledge of the human condition across the lifespan and the relationships of an individual with others and within the environment (NCSBN, 2016). I agree with this statement in the sense that nursing such be holistic and incorporate the whole person and all their needs. I have noticed a big change in my clinical practice in this past year. It is amazing how my confidence has increased so much. As a fourth year student, I find myself a lot more competent in all aspects of my care. This placement in the NICU has taught immensely how important family-centered care is. As I reflect on my current practice there are many things that come to my mind but for the sake of a long paper, I will mention just a couple. Using the NCLEX test plan as a lens I have drawn upon some checkpoints that have been relevant in my practice thus far.
