Response: The Fantastic Mr. Fox The Fantastic Mr. Fox, a stop motion animated film about a middle aged fox settling into family life, and his call back to the wild nature of his youth. Throughout this movie, there are messages of how to live with marriages as they grow difficult and how to deal with life changes, but one I noticed more than the others was a message of how to accept those around us. This message of accepting and appreciating those around us is showed in caring for family, friends, neighbors, and ones self. One of the most prominent topics of the film is accepting family. there are multiple counts of this, in Mr. Fox learning how to appreciate Ash, and in Ash learning to accept his cousin Kristofferson. First, Mr. Fox and Ash have a difficult relationship as father as son. Mr. Fox is distant and Ash struggles with feelings of being useless or untalented. Ash’s feelings are exasperated by the appearance of his cousin Kristofferson who seems to be better at everything than him. Kristofferson even receives praise from Mr. Fox, who also completely ignored his own son’s efforts. Ash eventually gets to sit down with Mrs. Fox, who encourages him to be who he is and that it’s okay to be different. This sweet moment of encouragement between the two characters really does a good job of emphasizing one of the movies themes of loving the people in your family for who they are. When Ash’s Cousin Kristofferson shows up, Ash becomes jealous and unkind because of how perfect
Dr. Strangelove is one of the many masterpieces made by the great Stanley Kubrick. The movie was made in 1964 at the Shepperton Studios in London, UK. The time the movie was made is of great importance, in fact, it was made only two years after the Cuban Missile Crisis. Kubrick pictures, in an extremely comical yet somewhat serious way, what the world would look like after one of the two forces (U.S vs. USSR) was triggered in initializing nuclear warfare.
Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick is the story of a special friendship between two boys. The movie version titled “the Mighty” stars Kieran Culkin(Kevin) & Elden Henson(Maxwell) & is a good visual repetition of their adventure. They meet differently and the ornithopter is used in a different way they also show Kevin’s journey to save Max. They deleted the part where Kevin calls Max earthing. They added where Max finds a picture of his dad with his mom and Iggy and Loretta.
After reading the book, and watching the movie, I really enjoyed both. Both, the book and the movie, included the scene in which Kevin and Max returned the purse to Loretta Lee. Returning the purse proved that Max was not like his dad, he had the heart of his mother. Another similarity was that when Max came home in the police car after saving Freak, Grim gave Max a cup of coffee because he believed that he was becoming an adult. The final similarity was the way that Max dealt with Freak’s death. His way of getting over the situation was writing in the empty book about Freak the Mighty’s adventures.
The film, Good will hunting (Bender et al., 1997), is an American classic flick which is lauded for its fresh and ordinary approach towards depicting situations that is realistic and relatable. In the film, Good Will Hunting (Bender et al., 1997), this is clearly show up that, savagery Will Hunting experienced as a youngster and after that shows as a grown-up; along with flashes of a sweet attitude towards his companions and mental virtuoso. It is about a young man struggle to find himself. He is unwillingly treated to a psychologist just to keep him out of trouble. In this journey, he finds out what he is and what matters to him the most. This movie uses strong and effective technique on evoking emotions and empathy to the audience through exposing them to various technicities of filmmaking such as color, camera technique and many more. After reading the book (OpenStax 2016), we can have adopted different kinds of psychological theory to explain this movie. Good will hunting is related with Erikson’s psychosocial theory of personal development (Neu-Freudian theory),Freud’s psychoanalytical theory and the five-factor model of personality (Big-five: OCEAN).
My first impressions of the movie “Fried Green Tomatoes” was that it was a fluff and light movie. The previews of the movie would lead one to believe that myself included. I was wrong. The first part of the movie was set in 1930’s. This part of the movie addressed the issue of racism and ageism before the time of the Civil Rights Movement. When the movie moves in to present day, the story covers the struggles Evelyn is experiencing with menopause, or as it was sometime called; the change of life. Fried Green Tomatoes is a story that bounces through generations of women and the people around them. This is a classic story of Americana. The stories are used to weave a web to make a point and draw people in to the events that shape the lives
The movie Field of Dreams came out in 1989 and was directed by Phil Alden Robinson and story written by W.P. Kinsella. The movie is about a guy named Ray Kinsella, and he lives in Iowa with his wife Annie and daughter Karin, with their yard being a farm to produce crops to make money. One day when Ray was out on the farm, he heard a voice saying “If you build it, he will come”. He went inside to tell Annie, but they didn’t know what it meant. A few days later, he still kept hearing the voice say “If you build it he will come”, and they imagined a baseball field in the middle of his farm and crops and saw Shoeless Joe Jackson. Ray then thought that if he builds a baseball field, Shoeless Joe Jackson might come back to play again.
O Brother Where Art Thou? The movie is set in Mississippi in the late 1930's, with The Great Depression looming in the background. A condensed plot, are that the three main characters Ulysses McGill, Pete Hogwallop and Delmar O'Donnell are convicts that break away from a chain gang. They break away because they're on a quest to find the treasure that Everett hid. As the three men go along in their literal chains, they run into a ton of problems and interesting characters like The KKK, a campaigning governor, a robber, and a blind prophet. From the research I have done, the popular opinion is that this film is loosely based on the book, "The Odyssey". The overall tone and mood is somewhat goofy, but it has some heavy topics behind it like The
Five students from very different backgrounds meet on a Saturday for detention with their principal. The contrasting group includes the athlete, Andrew (Emilio Estevez), the princess Claire (Molly Ringwald), basket case Allison (Ally Sheedy), brain Brian (Anthony Michael Hall), and criminal John (Judd Nelson). The principal assigns them an essay on “who you think you are,” and leaves them to do it. During this time each of them has a chance to finally tell his or her story, making the other see them a little differently. When the day ends they question if school will ever be the same (Carroll).
Sometimes, we need a reminder of what is most important in this world. It’s good to stop and appreciate life with all of its beauty as well as its hardship, and this past week I was able to do that with the help of something I’ve never viewed before: a short film.

I have watched a considerable number of movies this semester so it was hard to choose which one to analyze. It came down to “Remember the Titans” or “Good Will Hunting”. However, the movie that I will be analyzing is “Good Will Hunting”. The reason I chose this movie is that it can be analyzed in many different ways. I will be analyzing different scenes of the movie and analyze them from different angles. I will be analyzing about the symbolism that is happening in the movie. I will be analyzing many different things about the movie. The first thing I will analyze in this movie is the symbolism of things, objects, colors, and
Differing opinions exist regarding the purpose and usefulness of a college education. While attending college appears to be a legitimate course of action to advance one’s educational and professional aspirations for some, it may seem senseless when considering the rise of college tuitions coupled with the fact that a college degree does not necessarily guarantee a job. Either way, defining the value and worth of a college education remains subjective. However, in the film, Good Will Hunting, the importance or perceived importance of a college education seems to be rejected at large, namely by the main character, Will Hunting, and his psychologist. Specifically, two main perspectives are shown regarding the frame of mind one should possess regarding education, one that values academic achievement and jobs, and the other that rejects those ideals and focuses primarily on self-discovery to figure out what is wanted in life. Consequently, both perspectives result in different behaviors among the characters in the film. Although Good Wil Hunting accurately highlights some of the major downfalls of a college education, it unfairly criticizes the emphasis college cultures places on achievement and future success. Because of this, the film takes devalues a college education and subtly frames it as a waste of resources through overtly ridiculing it.
Les Miserables is a prime example of two individuals conflicted by the “letter of the law” and the “spirit of the law”. The two main characters, Jean Valjean and and Javert, have two different views on morality. There is a difference between the “letter of the law” and the “spirit of the law”. Obeying the what the laws specifically says defines the “letter of the law” and obeying the overall message of the law defines the “spirit of the law”.
“It becomes kinda hard to love your job when no one seems to like you for doing it.”-Ralph. Why is it, that people say “choose the job you love and you never work a day in your life,” yet, fail to notice the possibility of others abhorring the person who enjoys their job? In the Walt Disney film, Wreck-it Ralph, tells the story of a programmed bad guy named Ralph, a big menacing enemy in an arcade game that wants to change who they want to be. It is through the accordance of “Creating the Myth”, written by Linda Seger, that Ralph faces many challenges and changes in order to become the hero of his story. The creating the myth article describes the general stages of a hero movie. Wreck-It Ralph is a story about a bad guy wanting to become well-respected
Good Will Hunting, a world famous film by Matt Damon, is one of the most well-crafted and profound films the world has ever seen. Released in 1998, the movie depicts a young South Boston screwup as he journeys from convict to mathematician thanks to his brilliant mind and the guidance of two clever but contentious men at each shoulder. Will is a young man looking to get through life with easy drinking and careless behavior, but after a run-in with a group of policemen and a challenging chalkboard, he is forced into therapy with a recovering widower and begins completing complex math problems with an unstable professor who is past his prime. He also takes up with a pre-med student at Harvard from England who shows him new ways to think about the world, even when he thought he had seen them all. The brilliance of Good Will Hunting comes in the shape of the witty dialogue, symbolic motifs, and a retinue of dynamic characters around the changing Will, and these all come together to create not just a film, but a work of art.
