The idea of critical success factors was initially presented in the 1960s by McKinsey and Co's. D. Ronald Daniel, then further developed and promoted 10 years after, by John F. Rockart, organizational theorist and senior instructor at MIT's Sloan School of Management.
Critical success factor (CSF) is an administration term for a component that is fundamental for a project or an organization to accomplish its central goal. It is a basic a critical factor or action required for guaranteeing the Success of an organization or an association. The term was at first utilized in the field of Data analysis and business analysis.
Examples of Critical Success Factors can be-
• Effective management of human resources.
• High Quality IS Service.

However, business can become more successful with additional CSF’s such as:
1) Leadership, Vision and Purpose – All positive platforms arise with strong leadership, vision and a distinct purpose or goal. For example : Walmart’s logistic information system which was applied back in 1993, is now over 20 years old and has established the basis to manage a progressively multifaceted distribution prototypical model, providing a foundation to include associates in category management and run sustainable efficiencies in the retail market.
2) Customer Project Support- Data analysis along with data quality and control is essential for any customer after their IT system has been implemented. Consisted training should be given to the IT support of their firm and this will allow them to be well aware of the infrastructure of the current IT system which is up to date and aware of the end user’s activities. This reduces the possibility of a failure caused be inaccurate data that could be generated due to a lack of quality

For example a firm needs to follow its privacy policy or else it will not be trusted by its customer which could lead to a bad reputation and hinder with company’s success. Rules provide guidelines for employees on what to do and what not to do
6) Scalable –The ability to measure or scale an IT network’s size. For example Google has scaled its servers from the beginning and this has helped it keep track of the traffic going through and whether there will be a need to expand. Initially, the Googleplex consisted of hundreds of servers. As of today the Googleplex is projected to consist more than a million servers. Google’s business platform and technology platform was designed from the outset to scale.
Relationship between Task 1 and Task 3
Task 1 and task 3 have more than a few points which are mutual in which both are reliant on each other. The most common links between the tasks lies in the similar characteristics of the critical success factors with the connection to information systems failure. Only if critical success factors are observed thoroughly inside an organization, they would be able to prevent Information Systems
So, it is very important to follow the organisations rules and procedures because rules and procedure is the main key that completes a business for instance; many big businesses these days are still
1.9 – Describe problems that may occur with information systems and how to deal with them when necessary
Compliance with Laws, Rules, and Regulations is, to me, the most important area in a company’s code of conduct. Complying with laws, rules, and regulations includes preventing harassment and discrimination, improper payments, and environmental compliance. When companies are in compliance they are not putting themselves at risk of huge fines, lawsuits, and negativity towards their company.
An organisation’s policies and procedures direct how people operate by giving them guidelines on what people can and cannot do, and how to deal with different situations. For example if there is a fire in the building, then the organisation would have health and safety policies and procedures to tell the user what to do. If a company didn’t have policies and procedures, then people wouldn’t know what to do and how to act in different situations, this could be dangerous and potentially harmful to the
The increased number of IT investment is applied in organization. It is clear that information technology has become the competitive fact in world business. Collaboration is the new trend in business world. No one can deny the importance of information technology application. Besides the profits outcome, the impacts of information technology deployment also create commitment, trust and value. Advanced information system can improve each steps of business process. It enables people to share information, performance task simultaneously and making decision efficiently. IT companies designed different products to satisfy each step of business operation in terms of manufacturing and human resources. Seminole should apply this new IT infrastructure to business operation. Firstly, company can use the transaction processing systems (IPS) to keep track of all business activities and transaction of the organization such as payroll and employee record keeping. IPS also shows all information from internal and external operation. Secondly, Business intelligence systems are designed for decision-making support. Management information system (MIS) is a system that helps managers to keep track of company performance status, which purposed for decision-making and evaluation. Decision-support system (DSS) is purposed for future business decision-making. Thirdly, Enterprise application systems are designed for integrating business process from different functions, such as supply chain
Data management is vital to any business as this is a key tool to an organisations business improvement, as you can refer back to data, and compare them against benchmarks. Analysing data can provide evidence for possible future structure such as identify trends, as well as indicate where improvements can be made. However there are strict procedures to be followed when collecting and storing data.
According to Bose (2016). In 1979 John F. Rockart first announced the phrase "critical success factors" (CSF) while helping senior leaders understand what is necessary to be successful within their organization. Still today the phrase has been used in a plethora of businesses when analyzing important factors for obtaining success. Behavioral Health Programs benefits from the analysis of CSFs as it helps both leadership and employees understand the aims that are most important to achieve the organization’s mission.
Recent survey found that only 34 percent of customer service companies use latest technology for customer service management. On the other hand 66 percent of companies using notebooks, papers, and useless notes. In order to succeed, we must have proper tool to execute it. So, matt has to collect information about Datatronics CRM and he has to find out whether the staffs are using CRM properly.
Phase 3 tasks 1 Components of technology systems Questions 1-4 for Group project, part 2:
They have been impacted by not knowing when they would have proper access to the environments for development. Further, they have not been given proper expectations about their roles and expectations on deliverables. Thus, the Information Management has not understood and always been able to meet the expectations or the exact needs of the project. They need to plan for all the necessary resources to support and manage the brand new Operational Data Store (ODS), or data modeling and ETL development needs. The Information Management team only has two data modelers assigned to the project, two Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) developers and two Data Base Administrators. These resources are expected to stand up an ODS from scratch and include a core business application with three releases running in almost parallel, spanning several environments. In addition to adding other core vendor applications to the ODS. Now there are other technical support staff that are providing system architecture and networking support, but the six-staff mentioned are the ones needed to provide the data structures needed for standard operational reporting.
After reading the case, one continues to come up with new problems and issues along the way that are related to information technologies. The three main problems we encountered in this case are lack of IT knowledge, inappropriate planning, and ineffective and inefficient Resource Management. Each of these issues requires specific attention to fix the next problem and so forth. The solution to attack each individual problem or issue will be explained as follows.
At first, identifying the potential problems. Though I will pay more attention to the top three classical problems, it is necessary to analyze other potential problems in specific project by investigating similar IT projects that is “Failure” or “Success” before kicking off project. The “similar” can be explained in many aspects, such as same goals, cost, scope, same industry, background and so on. I need to investigate how such similar project fails. For example, we assume that a company want to launch an ERP projects recently. In this area, there are many companies did it before. Failure of high-profile ERP projects is common. In order to avoid mistakes that usually occurs in such IT project, it can investigate many failure projects, such as Airforce, Saudi Telecom and so on. The project failure of Airforce due to the following reasons: weak teamwork & composition and lack of top management support. The Saudi Telecom’s failure attributes to lack of top management support, inadequate of company culture, and huge system customization (Aldammas & Al-Mudimigh, 2011). As you
(TCO B) List three organizational factors that can prevent a firm from fully realizing the benefits of a new information system, and provide examples of each.
Frenzel (2004) claimed that to be successful, a firm’s IT management team must take action on the following critical areas: business management issues; strategic and competitive issues; planning and implementation concerns; and operational items. If for any reason, the organisation experiences difficulties in the above areas, the manager will need to set goals and objectives to overcome and prevent these issues.
