Some 82,000 individuals gathered at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Sunday for Harvest America, an annual evangelistic event in which Pastor Greg Laurie of the Harvest Crusades speaks on the gospel. Hundreds of thousands more tuned into the event via livestream or radio / TV broadcasts, according to the organizers, and the event was remotely hosted in over 7,200 locations.
Of those who gathered at the stadium, over 6,000 individuals made a faith commitment in response to Laurie's message titled "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly," in which Laurie addressed feelings of of loneliness and emptiness, and said that only Jesus is the solution.
The most Google-searched terms during nighttimes are "porn, lonely, and suicide," Laurie noted.
Drinking age is not a strange phrase in our lives. Every time when we go to club or buy some liquor, we have to show our photo ID to prove that we have already 21 and we are legal to drink wine. I think this is a really good method to control drinking problem. Before I read these two articles which are “The 21-Year-Old Drinking Age: I Voted for it, It Doesn’t Work” by Dr. Morris E. Chafetz and “The Drinking Age of 21 Saves Lives” by Toben F. Nelson and Traci L. Toomey, I only felt that when people grow up they will have self-control to hold their desire for drinking and could decide whether it is appropriate to drink at that moment. I didn’t collect any data or information to support my opinion,
The existence of evil in the world seems to make it impossible for us to have a meaningful life. In fact, Dostoevsky argues that evil is utterly unacceptable and that the suffering it brings a¬bout can never be justified. Is Dostoevsky’s argument unconfutable or do you believe that the meaning of life in the world can still be rescued even in the face of radical evil?
Dan W. Brock makes a few interesting points in defending genetic engineering, while being observant of the possible downfalls and negative views of the science. Brock starts of his commentary by addressing how the limits to our genes can not "confidently predict the rate at which that understanding [of genetic engineering] will be achieved in the future nor the ultimate limits on it" (pg. 615). Also, the author states how genetic engineering could help parents ensure their children the abilities to live healthy lives, create new treatments for disease, and produce stronger immune systems.
In this paper I will analyze two articles, one is quantitative and the other is qualitative. I will describe the quantitative methods used including the research question addressed, the hypothesis, and variables. I will identify the population and sample. I will discuss the reliability and validity of the instruments used. I will then discuss the design of the article and how the findings were analyzed. For the qualitative article, I will identify the design of the article, the methods used and the strategies used for analyzing the data. Lastly, I will look at the implications for practice in the qualitative article, discuss other journals that might be interested in publishing the article and discuss how this article might
In Charles O. Jones' essay "It Ain't Broke", the author counters those who critique the American system of separated powers. He argues that having such a system is useful in preventing the passing of legislation that hadn't been debated enough to predict its consequences. Jones has high confidence that the current system of government will almost always find a way to succeed, and that divided governments accomplish equally as much reform as unified governments. However, in the case of the politics leading up to the passing of President Obama's Affordable Care Act, his theories are disproved.
Jordan Peele’s Get Out presents the notion of racism and injustice through the guise of a horror movie. While elements of horror such as gore and fear are included and the movie leaves us on edge throughout, Peele uses satire to highlight racial tension and anxiety in society. The protagonist, Chris, who is a black male, travels with his white girlfriend Rose to visit her parents at their house. Throughout the movie, Chris is faced with many weird encounters involving Rose’s family, leading up to the climax where Chris realizes Rose has tricked him and has been the antagonist the whole time. Rose’s family attempts to conduct an operation that will give Jim, a family friend, control of Chris’ body, but Chris manages
Not to mention a famous saying that one soldier said, "It’s a hornet’s nest in there.". The hornet’s nest is said to be the key to holding back the Confederate soldiers until backup came in the Battle of Shiloh. The fighting on April 6th concludes and the two sides rest. General Johnston dies that day and a new confederate general rises to defeat the north. But Grant’s supplies arrive that night and he is more than ready for the next day. On April 7th the fighting resumes, except this time Grant is driving the Confederates back with the added force of General Buell. As they are backtracking they have to fight over the bloody ground covered with corpses from the day before’s fight. Nonetheless to say the Unioners won this battle, driving the
As members of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Tyronne Gross and Otis Amey were closely associated with Center High's Transformed Bible Club. The former NFL athletes were invited by the leadership committee I head. As the leader, I considered their visit to be an opportunity for our club to broadcast a message of hope to the students on our campus. Many high school students were struggling with depression, were not self-confident and felt as if they lacked the academic vitality their peers might have had. Therefore, by organizing a seminar, held within the school day, I hoped to impart that hope to students. We scheduled the time, place and day. Then we advertised across campus, letting the students know of this wonderful event. Six weeks
could not be more thankful for the time I spent at BBC/Summit University. My heart aches after leaving Saturday. There are so many wonderful people who encouraged, pushed, challenged, and loved on me. Words cannot express how incredibly grateful I am for their talent, wisdom, patience, and willingness to invest in my life. Now, I am overjoyed to let everyone know I will be moving on in my career and attending the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and receiving an M.F.A. in makeup and wig design. I would never have imagined getting to this point and I feel like I am drowning in God's grace. Thank you to everyone who has been praying for me as I went through the interview process! On to a new adventure!
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (June 26th and 27th)—Evangelists Reinhard Bonnke and his ministry, Christ for All Nations (CfaN), along with Evangelist Daniel Kolenda, recently held a two-day crusade at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illiniois. The crusade hosted more than 18,000 people despite rain and various other obstacles. The Planetshakers worship team from Australia fired up the crowd to kick off the crusade, and at the end of each night, Bonnke appealed to the multitude to “Say YES to Jesus!” to which over 2000 individuals responded, accepting Christ as their Lord. Shortly following the altar call, Evangelist Daniel Kolenda prayed for
I arrived on a Wednesday and observed a women’s basketball game hosted in the gymnasium. As I witnessed the game, I thought to myself, “surely God wants me somewhere else,” unfortunately the women’s team was not the best of the colleges that I had visited, but I continued with my experience. After the game Coach Sanders came and sat down with me and asked if I had any thoughts over the game, compassionately I gave him some constructive criticism and he gladly listened while agreeing with most of the ideas that I had. We concluded the conversation then my family and I headed toward Helen, Coach Sanders benevolently bought us a hotel room for the night because he wanted me to be the first recruit ever to have the opportunity to experience the Chapel service that next Thursday
The film As Good As It Gets, reflects on the psychopathologies of three main characters. Marvin Udall is an obsessive-compulsive writer who maintains poor boundaries with those who encounter him. Simon Bishop is a homosexual artist who struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) about his estranged relationship with his parents and following an attack in his home. Carol Connelly is a waitress who suffers from anxiety, due to her son having an extreme case of asthma causing him to have constant medical attention. These random characters’ lives intersect in such a way, that in the end they become their greatest support network.
In the myth of Dagda the Good, Dagda had the last laugh on the Formorians because he was able to distract them from the upcoming war with the Tuatha de Danann’s (“Dagda the Good” 379). Dagda represents good leadership because he was able to cause a distraction among the Formorians and let them think that they were getting over on him at the expense of his appetite. Dagda showed leadership skills by appeasing the Formorians with their quest to feed his enormous appetite but at the same time knowing he was giving his people time to prepare for the battle that was soon to occur. A leader puts their people in front of their own desires and goals. He had a vested interest to have his people gain control of the land, because both the Formorians
During my academic journey at Calvin College I had my shares of good classes and not so great classes. I normally would categorized my courses based on personal outcomes: did I understand the context, was the class interesting, was the teacher teaching method applicable to my learning style, was the course valuable to my majors or minors. It is clear my method of categorization will be biased, but Jane Vella has identified 12 principles that teachers should withhold to give "adult" learners an effective learning environment. After learning the principles, the good classes incorporated the principles while the bad and ugly classes did not incorporated it, truly hindering my learning in the course.
Of those surveyed, the food services department had 32 employees complete the survey, the housekeeping department had 36 employees complete the survey, and the maintenance department responded with 10 completed surveys.
