Technology has become a major focus when it comes to the twenty-first century. Every day there seems to be more technological inventions being made. While watching television it is practically promised that there will be at least one new technological invention being advertised to the public. As the progression in technology continues to grow, the impacts it makes on society are slowly becoming evident. It has become a controversial topic between generations. From smartphones to virtual reality, the negatives might outweigh the positives when it comes to future generations.

We no longer are capable to text or email without having to use slang and reducing our words to three letters or less. Society has become so dependent on constantly checking celebrity posts, Instagram posts, Facebook updates, etc. that we no longer have time for hobbies. Technology is stealing from our interaction and socializing skills. Carr states, “But what we too often forget is that information is not knowledge, it's not intelligence, and it's certainly not wisdom. And when we spend all of our time gathering information, what gets crowded out is the time to distance yourself from distractions and interruptions and think deeply about things, think deeply about the experiences you're having, think deeply about the new facts you're learning, think deeply about the conversation you're having” (Smart Technology Is Making Us Dumb). As I reflect on the technology exercised by people on a regular basis, it is pretty transparent that it represents a big part in our lives. Today technology assists us to communicate with our peers effortlessly and strengthen our ability to learn material quickly. Although there are various conclusive aspects that technology gives to society, I believe that technology might be one of the biggest downfalls on this generation.

Techno-optimist or techno-pessimist? That is the question. Technology throughout time has no doubt changed our way of life. Travelling to destinations quicker, curing new diseases, or figuring out how to cease a wide famine are examples of how technology has made advances over time. The solutions that scientists create spark a tool that others cannot live without. But what if these technologies bring out negative effects rather than their desired purpose? Sometimes, innovators create new inventions that bring unintended consequences. It could range from less communication face to face, side effects from new medicines, or pollute the earth’s atmosphere.

Technology 's impact on society has changed in many areas of our lives. Technology has changed travel, you can now book your own plane ticket without going to a traveler’s agency, schooling you can take classes online, and have access to doctors and medicine without having to leave your home. I chose to write about the topic of banking. With the help of technology banks are able to reach out to more customers and provide better services to them. Phones. Computers. Games. These images are what many people think of when they think of technology. Technology has both a positive and negative impact on society, because it has many benefits such as communication and negative effects such as hacking.

What is technology? Technology is a form of information that is not thrilling for creating tools, processing actions and removing different types of materials. Technology is a wide ranged application of scientific knowledge used for different practical purposes. According to (Buchanan, R. 2017) the achievements of technology from the year of 1900, has improved tremendously from the upcoming decades, which is currently today’s time. With constantly being involved with technology in today’s current society witnesses are more advanced based on technology. There is over a wide range of activities that connects to receiving information that has previously recorded that connects to the history of technology. There have been several different forms of improvements in technology over the last several decades.

When reflecting open the current climate of our society, the conversation would be incomplete if the rise of technology was not mentioned. Technology can be seen in every aspect of society. Whether it is for the professional workplace, or in the social interactions between children and teenagers, technology rules everything people do. The consequence of technology can be both positive and negative, but there is no denying that it has had a profound impact on society as a whole.

As the movie Star Wars was a colossal hit of the generation X, technology has been welcomed amongst the current generation; generation Z, of which myself is included.  Star Wars has gone away as generations have passed, but technology is not leaving. Technology is here to stay, in the long run, technology will only further advance. Technology has made a presence everywhere. Computers are used for a majority of tasks in schools no matter the age of the students, of those who own a watch, a majority of the time have touchscreen smart watches, Adults and teenagers stare at their phones, and three year olds play a game on their iPads. In recent times, there were only landline phones, but those who had one did not have their life based around their phone. Also, when technology began to advance, only those who are at a greater age had these technological devices.  In the twenty-first century, technologies popularity has a greater rank than ever before. Phones are used for everything; games, social media, google, calculators, calendars, camera, phone calls, and texting. As technology has become popular in not only the United States, societies behaviors have changed. This rapid growth of technology is showing major concerns to this generation of young citizens, myself included.

Since the invention of the computer and the smart phone, technology has been rapidly advancing, but the technological advancements have also caused humankind to evolve, but evolve into a society dependent on technology. Prior to technology, a person had to visit a library for information, unlike today where information can instantly be looked up. However, instead of discovering information to become more erudite, most people today use technology to look up useless information and subject themselves to the brainwashing effect of social media and advertisements. Technology has created a society dependent on technology for every mundane task in their lives like setting an alarm clock or creating reminders on a smartphone. The different public spheres in our culture: education, politics, and society, are affected by the constant pressure of technology and people are forced to conform to technology’s conventions, which strikingly resembles the dystopian world of Feed that M.T. Anderson created.

As the time goes on, technology becomes more popular and essential for most people’s daily life. Technology also becomes more dominant in every aspects on life such as working, studying, and even doing housework. It has radically changed the way human interacts with the world; for instance, people only communicated in person or through postal mails decades ago, and technology helped changing the traditional communication style into a faster one through texting and instant messaging. There are three perspectives on the impact of technology to humanity. First perspective is about its positive contributions to the society for the past few years. It has shorten many time-consuming tasks that made us have scratched our heads when thinking about them. Second perspective is about some cons of relying on technology too much such as becoming more lazy and lacking of motivation of doing things as well as disconnecting from reality and real people. The third perspective is about its uses for some people in developing countries. Technology does not help them much since these people do not have enough money to afford it. Therefore, its prohibited cost makes itself inaccessible in some countries. Technology actually has made life better but relying on its automatic nature too much can lead to being enslaved for it.

Technology has changed so many of the ways in which we live our lives, from the invention of the wheel to the advanced systems we use and take for granted everyday. Technology was once taboo in most house holds while people still clung to the idea that life was built on life experiences. Nicholas Carr stated in, Is Goggle making us stupid? "Back in the fourth century, BCE, Plato complained that writing (then a fairly new technology) was destroying peoples memory, yet he wrote dozens of books. For half a century, television has been accused of rotting our brains and making us fat and lazy, but most people depend on it for info, news and entertainment." There is no doubt that technology has been bettering the way that we learn and makes it more enjoyable and easier than ever. No more fear from going to school early, meet teachers and waste time looking for books on large library shelves. Nowadays with the modern technology people save time, money and energy. Improvements - Almost all electronics have received major advances in the way they look, perform, and even their size. Phones have received some the biggest upgrades in recent years as far as electronics go. Another area that has improved vastly is gaming consoles, gaming is now faster than ever. Personal computers have, of course, continued to improve as they always have. A newer electronic device that has not only appeared since the early 2000 's but has also made major improvements since then is the tablet. Moore 's law states that every two years the number of transistors will double on a given computer chip. This is not true as we are nearing the limits of size. We are however still finding innovative new tech to come out. Some of the frontrunners in the tech world are Microsoft, Apple, and Sony just to name a few. These companies take getting new tech into the hands of their consumers a priority.
