The Importance Of 4H

Firstly, in my Academic Career, I have held a multitude of leadership roles. My sophomore year , I was a class representative for Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America, commonly known as FCCLA. It was my duty to alert members and keep them up to date regarding meetings and activities. As a representative of FCCLA, I learned how to work as a unit leader and a team member.That same school year, I ran for the district office of secretary for FCCLA. The nomination and election process, gave me the opportunity to grow and nurture my leadership abilities. It was eminently challenging; but I learned the importance of discipline and hard work. I have demonstrated excellence In leadership by being in Future Business Leaders of America ever since I was in my freshman year. I became secretary my freshman year, vice president my sophomore year, and will have acquired the privilege of becoming President my senior year. Being in FBLA has helped me not only grow as a member, but as a leader. Throughout my growth inside the club, I have been able to encourage others to join extracurricular activities, developing my interpersonal skills. Community service has also been a major part of my High School career. Whether it’s first preparing and painting the posters for an activity we are having, to being in charge of a fundraising event, my goal has always been to try to impact the community breaking

So far, I have altered how meetings are conducted from last year so that the student administration has more control of communicating ideas to the members. Later in the year, I plan to incorporate additional volunteer opportunities and I want to have more group conversations with the members to hear their ideas and try to merge those ideas into positive changes that can be made. This leadership opportunity is starkly different from that of coordinating a 5k. Being the president of NHS has given me additional exposure to public speaking skills, decision making skills, proper ways to conduct meetings, and ways to present myself professionally. Despite their differences, these leadership opportunities have helped me advance myself in my journey to accomplish my goals. The skills I gained and refined from these opportunities will undoubtedly assist me when trying to procure grants, build connections, and become a research team leader.

Since childhood, I had a chance to develop my leadership and organizational skills through sports and had my school team win many competitions. My school is one of the places where my leadership qualities are valued as I often become a head of many activities, such as staging plays, organizing shows and school trips with my teachers. Being a leader gives me the opportunity to work in a team and consider my peers’ ideas to make our plans creative and enjoyable for everyone. My personal traits help me to gain trust and respect of my peers as they believe me to be a positive, open-minded and reliable person. Leadership has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have always found myself taking on leadership roles, whether it be by volunteering or coordinating different projects for the benefit of my school or community. Taking on leadership positions has allowed me to develop skills in communication, delegation, and managing multiple tasks and deadlines. As a member of National Honor Society and an officer of Student Council, I am presented with various opportunities to show my leadership skills. For example, I have been in charge of planning multiple pep assemblies for my school. Helping coordinate blood and canned food drives, angel trees, as well as organize an abundance of fundraising events has created a sense of reliability

Learning how to be a leader in all types of situations has been one of the most important skills which I have acquired. The most important growth in my leadership skills was through 4-H where I served as President, 1st Vice President, and various other positions. I learned valuable public speaking skills from a lawyer who was teaching a public speaking class and was able to apply this in the various duties I undertook as leader of my club. Now I step into leadership roles with confidence, trusting my ability to work with and lead everyone in the group. When I join the scholars at the Hankamer School of Business, I will be able to fulfill any leadership positions necessary with confidence, whether it be in a small group or large group

I am intimately familiar with the workings of the club, as I have been involved in a leadership role from nearly the first day. While the rest of my fellow officers are seniors and will graduate this June, I hope to carry on in a leadership role and ensure the club we have worked so hard to establish will continue to flourish. Through my experiences this year, I know specifically which aspects of the club are running smoothly and which need more work; I know which of our efforts were successful, and which missed the mark. I hope to bring my knowledge to the NHS leadership team in my senior year so that the State High chapter will have a bright and stable future. I am dedicated to my work, and independently motivated to achieve success. I am an excellent team player, having had significant practice this year both leading a team as an officer and working within a team and delegating tasks as head of the Bunny Hop 5k advertising committee. Given the opportunity, I would enthusiastically utilize and continue to develop all of these skills as president of the State High

Being an older sister, friend, and active student in and out of the classroom, I’ve oftentimes been the person that others look up to for advice or ideas. One specific area that I am a leader in is the Cherokee Art Club. This year I was named group leader, which is a person that guides fellow club members by giving them directions, providing support and encouragement, and making sure that everything is going as planned. I have been the president of my school’s Junior Civitian club for 2 years now and I was color guard caption for two years also. I have learned how to become a leader. I also went to Girl State where I learned how to become a better leader. Becoming a leader is challenging, especially in high school, when you want to do what everyone else is doing. I have learned that being a leader you should be fair and treat people as if they are your peers and not lower than you are. As a leader I am the first person their and the last person to leave. Over my short yet extensive career in both the healthcare, local government, non-profit areas I’ve had several experiences that triggered some form of leadership development. One instance would be as follows; several years ago when I was just a councilmen I firmly believed in saying what I thought was true as long as I could backup and acquisitions with facts. I was the person who tended to ignite the discussion since I said what no one else wanted to say. After running and getting re-elected to my second term I realized I could do more if I stopped being the ignition for discussion and switch to the shaper of the flame. I decided to run for Council President so I could take the discussion that came up and shape it into a workable solution for everyone. I occupy my time in clubs and activities that both captivate my interest and are most important for my peers and me. These include but are not limited to my positions in Link Crew, Student Council, and Senior Board. They range from Senior Class Representative to Vice President. Many of my teachers and mentors have identified a characteristic of mine as a great leader, and I wanted to improve on these skills. I don't dominate discussion or action, I simply guide it. 4-H is an organization that has impacted my life in so many different ways, it has truely helped to shape me into the person that I am today. 4-H has taught me to work hard for what I want, to be responsible, to be able to speak infront of people comfortably, to be organized, and to be a leader for myself and other people around me. I am a born leader. Even when I am not looking for leadership opportunities they always seem to fall into my lap. My life has been one that is based on service to others, so I regularly volunteer for committees and extend myself to help others. It is important to me to be the best teacher I can, I regularly attend professional development sessions and implement my new learning in the classroom. However, upon starting the Teacher Leadership Master’s program at Lamar University, I was just beginning my career as a teacher leader. I had not had many opportunities to show leadership outside of my grade-level team. During team planning meetings, I normally directed the discussions. My coworkers looked to me for guidance and interpretation of the curriculum. I regularly made suggestions about teaching strategies. Additionally, I was a member of various campus committees including the Campus Performance Objective Committee (CPOC) where worked together with campus administrators and community partners to develop the Campus Improvement Plan. However, I did not view these tasks as leadership opportunities.
