Introduction Cultural awareness is a useful base for human communication and constitutes the aptitude to become aware of what values, believes or perceptions are found within our culture. Culture awareness helps understand why things are done in a certain way and how we perceive other cultures and in what ways we are supposed to act when in a particular situation (Schein and Edgar, 13). Culture includes marriages, religion, music and dance, education, dressing, language among many other aspects. The world is made up many different cultures and cultural awareness is important to enhance understanding and respect for other cultures (Schein and Edgar, 14). Culture awareness is important in all areas including in security. It is common for countries to send their armed forces for missions to various parts of the world where culture is completely different. Therefore, it is important to understand the various cultures and societies from these different countries which is very important for successful missions (Schein and Edgar, 16). This paper is therefore going to discuss in details culture awareness in Georgia. Culture is a behavior that consists of several critical elements, such as language, religion, race and ethnicity, clothing and politics. Culture is what one does in his/her daily life. In order to understand others, we must first keep in mind that every culture carries its own set of values and assumptions. Culture is an evolving, ever changing civilization, which includes several different groups people. For immigrants, America is a land of opportunity; for others it is just the best country in the world because of its economic success and/or its democratic political system. Americans usually value independence a lot, believe in equal opportunity, and have a direct communication style. In exploring the
Culture is a large part of every person’s life, it is what makes each person unique. Within culture there are many aspects such as food, music, clothing, tradition, and many more. Since culture makes up such a large part of our day to day lives, it is almost always responsible shaping and informing our view on the world.
Therefore, the need to be culturally competent is paramount to fostering understanding. Cultural competency is about understanding another’s artifacts, beliefs, values and basic assumptions (Schein, 2010). Schein describes artifacts as the observable elements of a culture, such as ceremonies, non verbal cues, and language. He further describes, belief structures serve as guide posts and are useful in understanding a reason for a behavior. Finally, he states, assumptions are based on previous experience of what was and was not successful in the past for the individual or group. Recognizing and identifying these elements improves an outsider’s cultural

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa defines Cultural Awareness as “observing and being conscious of similarities and contrasts between cultural groups” (Ottawa, "Cultural Awareness or Sensitivity"). To me, I think the meaning of Cultural Awareness is to just be aware and respectful to others from different cultures who surround you. Rather than just ignoring all the different cultures and differences around you, you should be aware to gain more knowledge of your community or society. Cultural Sensitivity is similar to cultural awareness as Cultural Sensitivity builds upon the concept of Cultural Awareness. Cultural Sensitivity includes the awareness aspect and adds the concept of removing prejudice and assumptions, whether positive or negative. To me, I find that Cultural Sensitivity combines awareness with open-mindedness. When we are more respectful and open to learning about others around us we can become more Culturally Sensitive. In addition, Cultural Safety brings together both awareness and sensitivity by gaining and furthering knowledge, understanding, and respect for the other cultures surrounding you. Cultural Humility is the "ability to maintain an interpersonal stance that is other-oriented (or open to the other) in relation to aspects of cultural identity that are most important to the [person]" (Waters & Asbill, "CYF News | August 2013 Reflections on cultural humility", 2013). Put simply, cultural humility is the process of opening yourself up to develop partnerships with other groups or cultures and to maintain equilibrium of power between

Cultural awareness: having an understanding and appreciation for different cultures as well as your own. Spencer-Oatey (2012) suggested that, Culture is customs, ideas and social behaviour of a particular people or society. Moreover, culture is also defined by arts, and other manifestation of human intellectual achievement (Spencer-Oatey, 2012). Therefore, culture covers broad areas in our society, and culture plays an important role of development of individual’s self-awareness. Cultural self-awareness is gained from birth by developing knowledge by experience, outcome, and the behaviour that seem to form the cultural self-awareness of individuals and makes the whole culture.
