enterprise. DaVita's vision is "To build the Greatest Healthcare Community the World has ever Seen.” The mission statement is “To be the Provider, Partner, and Employer of Choice.” The mission and vision come to fruition through the core values, which encompasses service excellence, fulfillment, continuous improvement, integrity, fun, accountability, and team (SITE). Effective leadership is needed to facilitate such a grand movement. Without debate, it is well known that leaders play a pivotal role in leading their followers to fulfill organizational goals efficiently. Fiaz, Qin, Ikram, and Saqib (2017) states effective leadership is a process by which an individual motivates others to achieve organizational goals. It is the process of enhancing and encouraging the self-esteem of employees to put effort above and beyond organizational goals. As previously stated, Theory created a system based upon fundamental aspects of personal growth, respect, and self- determination. His concept of village further expounded this initiative by weaving teamwork and diligence into the DNA of his company. Although hard work is a key ingredient to the success of DaVita, fun is an equally important component. Theory believes a fun environment delivers better care to patients while creating a better work environment for his teammates (DaVita website). From a clinical standpoint, DaVita provides a holistic approach utilizing an Integrated Care Setting (ICS) to help the individual
2- Taking self-assessments allow for recognition and understanding concerning one-self and the qualities possessed. Various approaches to leadership, decision-making, and personality traits greatly influence communication, motivation and management abilities within an organization. These skills can be learned and enhanced. Understanding how these styles impact others can empower leaders to increase organizational performance and create an improved work environment. Great leaders have impacted our societies and organizations. They have shared necessary guidelines for increasing leadership skills.
Effective followership is an essential component of effective leadership in that, without good followers, the leader’s work is difficult and cumbersome. The role of the follower is many times understated. As illustrated by Kelley (1998), “effective followers are thinkers; energetic and assertive, self-starters, independent problem solvers, and carry out their tasks with these characteristics (p. 143). Effective followers also are characterized by their ability to perform tasks with little supervision, their intelligence, and ability to think for themselves. We are all followers, even those who consider themselves leaders; so to encourage this effectiveness in others; we must be role models for those under us, so that they may also be effective at following. Chaleff (2009) observed that “all important social accomplishments require complex
Who am I? At this point in my life I really only participate in three groups. My family, my work and my school. I do not currently choose not to participate in social circles as my family, work and school dominate the majority of my time and I dedicate the rest of my time to personal activities that are typically solo activities.
(Democracy) The United States proud name is rooted on freedom. Even though voters can set trends it does not guarantee a great leaders will be produced on a consistent basis, as each leader is faced with different challenges and struggles during their term such as war, depression, foreign relations,
Having a knowledge and effective leader in an organization is highly important because the way the leader leads will determine the outcome of the business. The person I believe who is successful at leading and implementing change will be my current supervisor Mr. William Kizer. Although Mr. Kizer is relatively young, he has the education and experience that aids him in his leadership qualities. William encourages and support his team, he gives feedback and also listens to suggestions and implements suggestions made from the group unlike other leaders who only implements their suggestions. Our unit finds placement for children that having difficulties being placed in foster care or a group home. Since the nature of the job can be so stressful, Mr. Kizer, makes sure that there is a balance between family time and work time. He is also capable of filling in for any staff member when they are out. That in itself is a good attribute of a leader. I have worked in departments before where my past supervisors did not know how to complete my job. In addition, Mr. Kizer takes his team out on a retreat quarterly so that we can be revived. He possess the qualities of a good listener, he is responsible and has effective communication. Those three qualities helps him guiding his team to success. According Kotter (2005), Great leaders get others to move in a direction that is sensible for themselves,
After taking the assessment, to my surprise, my score was a thirty-three. The evaluation stated that between twenty-eight and thirty-six, is very good, my effectiveness as a leader is high (Manning & Curtis, 2012).My initial reaction to the score, I was somewhat surprised by more score, but the questions made you think about your skills and what it is that you do on your day to day already. Which is a lot of helping others to achieve his or her goals as well as to becoming successful. In reviewing some of the questions in the assessment, it helped me to think about what it is that I want to do in my career. I also think it helped me to understand more of myself. I know I have the skills to be a leader one day, but before when I first started
I find the statement “The effective leader today must be a director and motivator, implementer and innovator, mentor and team builder, expert and moral force, organizer and developer of people” (2015, p.61), to be both accurate and realistic. One reason I believe this to be the case is because of the number of individuals who have been able to facilitate these roles on their way to being considered successful leaders. One example being Vince Lambardi. While the story told of him in textbooks by Willie Davis primarily spoke of his motivating skills, he is a renowned leader (2015, p.30).
Leaders in the workplace play a unique and vital role in the success or failure of a business. Their responsibilities are great in number and are continuously evolving to meet the growing needs of the employees and the communities they serve. In order to be effective, leaders must constantly strive to create a work environment conducive for team unity and collaboration (Llopis, 2012). Good leaders pride themselves on being visionaries with the ability to lead by example. They have a charismatic gift to inspire and encourage others to work together to meet a common goal (Bateman and Snell, 2009). Contrary to what some believe, leadership is a shared vision. It involves accepting feedback from all involved and the competence to put
What is leadership? A leader is one who influences others to attain goals. The greater the number of followers correlates to the greater the influence. Additionally, the more successful the attainment of worthy goals, the more evident is the leadership. However, one must explore beyond this bare definition to capture the excitement and intrigue that devoted followers and students of leadership feel when they see a great leader in action. Therefore, employees should seek to understand what organizational leaders really do and to learn what it really takes to become a truly outstanding leader.
I have ascertained that utilizing mental models, I can understand why and how different people on the same team process similar occurrences in a different manner. A mental model is "a set of ideas and assumptions that you carry in your head" (Bolman, & Deal, 2013, p. 10). These mental models that we rely on as an interpretation, influence our understanding of world and organizational events, because they reflect our current mind-sets. For example, a mental model that is prevalent in the army, is that your appearance reflects your potential. This may cause others to judge soldiers initially, by their appearance. If they are overweight, or their appearance looks disheveled, they are often initially seen as being undisciplined. Changing our mental models can directly change our understanding of events, because we can perceive things differently, and also then identify other root causes, or resolutions. In my example, if one realizes that a newly assigned soldier may not be completely situated in a home and community as yet, that perhaps they do not have access to the resources that they may need, to present the best appearance, such as a good barber. A leader could recognize this as a need to provide more community familiarization, or access to resources. By exploring mental, models Senge (2006) recognizes that one can create a reflection in the work environment and, by doing so, encourage a more open discussion, and expose the
Effective leaders are self-actualized individual’s, aware of their own personal strengths and weaknesses, with the skills necessary to encourage the best performance out in their others members. Most historians rank George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, and Theodore Roosevelt as America’s finest leaders. Agreement on their quality is so strong, in fact, that in the 1920s, their likenesses were immortalized on Mount Rushmore, which has since become an iconic symbol of great leadership.
Given the high dependence on IT and its impact on operations, various regulatory exams are performed in your area throughout the year, to ensure IT controls are operating effectively. At the beginning of the year, you assigned the IT Risk Manager (referred to as “Coordinator”), as a dedicated resource and point of contact for all exam related communication. This Manager is one of your high performing employees, and has been with the organization for over ten years. He is very knowledgeable about the Bank’s processes and systems, and is liked by all. The Coordinator receives all audit/exam requests; and coordinates with other IT personnel to gather the requested information and/or schedule required meetings.
As a member of the National English Honors Society Chapter of McLean, I focused most of my time in various writing events rather than community service opportunities. The primary reason for this was due to transportation issues that made me unreliable in such aspects of my Chapter. When I was a junior, I participated in poetry/short story competitions that centered on certain themes like love and winter, the latter of which I took first place in the poetry section. I also tried out new things like submitting play manuscripts to Sketchfest, a play
