Should marijuana be illegal or should be legal in the United States? I think that marijuana should be illegal. Marijuana is a plant that is illegal in some states of the United States because it makes you do things that you don't want to do like when you are drunk but for marijuana instead of saying drunk its high and when you're high it's the same thing as if you were drunk like you start acting weird, might not remember what happened the night before things like that. The main reason why I want marijuana to illegal is because there are people out there in the world that need lungs and if we make marijuana legal then all those lungs we could have used for the people that need lungs will be lost and the people that need lungs might die,
“According to the United Nations, 158.8 million people around the world use marijuana—more than 3.8% of the planet’s population” (Drugfreeworld.org, 2014). Marijuana is one of the most widely used illicit drugs in the world (Sewell). It has received a plethora of criticism in the past and its negative reputation has carried on throughout history, making the legalization of marijuana one of the most controversial topics today. Marijuana does not deserve the reputation it receives, and in actuality it serves many medicinal purposes for the human body. Marijuana should be legalized in all 50 states for medical use.
In this paper I discuss why Cannabis should not be liberated in the United States. My focus and concerns are to the harm Cannabis is bringing to society now a days. In the United States more people are being influenced and being in favor of this famous “Drug Addiction” causing by illusions as ignorance is taking over and affecting a nation that is role models to many other nations. Awareness of after effects of drugs are being hidden and taken for granted as people keep on living this irresponsible life not thinking of the future. In this paper, I will consider some information based on my side of the argument.
Have you ever considered the harmful affects of marijuana? Marijuana can be a very harmful thing and it can be addictive and lead to worsening behavior: regular use of marijuana affects your education, the substance would be highly abused by people, and injuries or even death could occur when you use this drug. People take advantage of this drug, even if it is prescribed by a doctor, it is still misused. Should medical marijuana be legal in Utah? If it was legalized in Utah, there would be lots of negative things that would happen. Education and learning could be affected immensely. Injuries and even death could occur when using this drug. Environmental damage could occur.
Marijuana has been a tremendous on-going legal debate over the last few centuries in America. In the last few decades marijuana use in America has been on the rise, especially among young adults. Marijuana comes from the hemp plant known as "Cannabis Sativa". In 2727 B.C, the Chinese were the first to document the use of marijuana for medicine. Chinese would use the seeds of the hemp plant for food (Borges, 2014, Ch. 15). Marijuana has been known for a lot more than just getting high though. In the past it’s been used for fabric, food, incense, cloth, and much more. In the last few decades America has come up with a variety of nicknames for the Marijuana. Some common nicknames include Cannabis, Skunk, Ganja, Maryjane, Refeer, bud and tree. Many of these street names arrived from the leafy appearance and its vigorous smell.
Marijuana has been prevalent in the United States of America since its birth in 1776. Currently, there is a prohibition on marijuana, similar to the prohibition of alcohol from 1920 to 1933. Most arrests in the United States are first time nonviolent offenders who are in possession of the illegal substance, due to this prohibition. Despite being illegal at a federal level, Colorado and Washington have passed laws to legalize medicinal and recreational use of the substance. On top of that sixteen other states offer medicinal marijuana, including the nation’s capital, the District of Columbia. Marijuana should be legalized in the United States of America as a whole, because of the amount of revenue that it would generate, the medicinal benefits that it can offer to those who are sick, and the legalization would stop the incarceration of nonviolent offenders who wish to use marijuana.
During the Roaring Twenties and the time of prohibition, gangs acquired power through the illicit possession and distribution of alcohol. Law abiding citizens were now considered criminals with jugs of alcohol tied to their legs, discreetly hidden under clothing. When the eighteenth amendment to the U.S. Constitution was repealed, criminals lost their power, violence subsided, the black market dwindled, and the struggling economy gained more leverage through tax revenue, all due to the legalizing of alcohol. History is repeating itself as similar crimes are being seen today with Cannabis being prohibited, but comparable benefits may also be reaped with the lifting the illegal marijuana ban. Although claimed “morally deficient,” the benefits of legalizing marijuana outweigh the cons and every American is free to embrace or steer clear of this drug; therefore, marijuana should be legalized.
It seems as though everyone has their own opinion when it comes to the legalization of marijuana. The question spans all age groups, races, and religions. You will hear different answers from individuals under each group. Some view the use of the substance as a sin and believe that the use should be a crime and others view it as a freedom that each citizen should be granted. Marty Nemko, a Ph.D. holding, education evaluation specialist, says otherwise. In his article published by TIME magazine, Nemko goes into details as to why he believes legalizing marijuana will have far more consequences than it does reward. His points seem as though they would be valid, however his argument is stretched and very weak. Nemko uses irrational logic, slanted, biased data, and opinion based assumptions to attempt to persuade readers to join his cause.
In the span of 2013-14 the reports of drugs in Australia increased. There were record high reporting’s of many types of illicit drugs at the border patrol. Furthermore, many other illicit drugs had their second highest reporting in history. Cannabis is the most common drug in Australia. The number of detections of cannabis in 2013-2014 decreased, but the total weight of detected cannabis at the border control increased dramatically and was the biggest cannabis find in the last decade (Australian Drug Commission 2014). In the draft for the National Drug Strategy 2016-2025 cannabis is mentioned as a priority drug as it is the most common used illegal drug (Intergovernmental Committee on Drugs 2015). As the recent news that the Australian government is planning to legalise growing of medical cannabis there a gap in the policy of how to regulate medical cannabis and cannabis used as an illicit drug (Yaxley 2015).
Marijuana has been one of the most misunderstood herbal medicines in today 's culture. With today 's lifestyle turning to herbal, natural remedies including marijuana should be included. It boasts many medicinal qualities that society has overlooked, due to the stigma surrounding this drug. Society needs to put aside preconceived ideas that it is a drug that makes you high and realize the full potential of a natural remedy that is used to treat many conditions including cancer patients.
Why is a harmless plant like marijuana illegal? Marijuana cost the taxpayers of the United States an estimated forty one billion dollars every year, including a loss in potential tax revenue (16 Facts about Marijuana and the U.S. Economy). It helps people with illnesses ranging from Alzheimer's to cancer. States that have legalized have had a result of twenty five percent less deaths from pharmaceuticals since legalization (Lincoff). With notable results in states like Colorado the United States needs to legalize marijuana nationally to boost the economy and give millions access to jobs and increase tax revenue.
Marijuana should be legal because it’s a medicine. It can help people killing cancer, help people feel more relax, have better mood, and it made people go sleep easy. Also it doesn’t lead to lung cancer. Marijuana should be illegal because it will affect our body like brain damage, it can lead to heart attack and heart disease. And also it will lower crime. legal it would benefit both those who use and those who don’t use because of tax revenue.
Many people are pushing their state’s legislature to legalize the possession and sale of marijuana to persons over the age of 21. While many people believe marijuana is medically beneficial when used properly, just as many people disagree with this belief. The purpose of this paper is to give the facts supporting both sides of this proposal.
I’m supposed to write an essay about the argument between if Marijuana should be legalized for medical and recreational use. But personally, I believe in legalizing for many reasons, one of them being medical use for people with sicknesses and diseases. Yeah, there may be are some down sides to legalizing, such as the fact it kills your brain cells and that you should not drive while impaired but more and more people every day are going PRO- Legalization.
