Introduction

Peter Drucker the famous 20th century management consultant may have described motivation best saying, “We know nothing about motivation – all we can do is write books about it”. Motivation is a commonly used buzzword thrown around in daily conversations without much meaning behind it. Motivation defined by Jason Colquitt and company in Organizational Behavior is as follows “a set of energetic forces that originates both within and outside an employee, initiates work-related effort, and determines its direction, intensity, and persistence” (Colquitt, LePine and Wesson ). Motivation is an extremely powerful intrinsic force that can lead individuals to do wonderful feats such as create vaccinations, create state of the art inventions, or put a man on the moon. People are affected by motivation every day and this drive is going to determine in some cases the productivity of an individual’s day or intensity they bring to their morning workout. Motivation is a part of everyone’s life which is why I chose to take a deeper look into the application and best way to draw motivation out of people.
