T7 extended assignment For my assignment I will be focusing on a child leaving care and going into a foster home aged 6-7 years old and how this transition will affect that child and what we can do to help the transition easier to go through. This is a very big transition for a child to go through and this could affect them in different areas of their development for example they may need to move to a new area and new school and they may also have to make a new group of friends. I will be focusing in two key issues which are the importance of planning and I will also be focusing on the important of working with multi agencies. D1/D2/A1 Planning is very important for the child and the foster family. The practitioners will need to plan for this transition by carrying out meet up sessions with the child and the foster family this will help the child as they will be able to more comfortable around them when the transition happens, but however with older children you may not know that child will react to different situations. During these meeting many different things could happen for example the potential foster family can come into the child’s school setting and bring things from their home to show the child what their home is like. The foster family could also invite the child to days out and other family activities as this will help to get the child involved and comfortable around all the family. Over 600,000 children in the United States are in the foster care system. Reasons include, abuse, neglect and abandonment. These children lack nurturing environments and stable homes. Children within the foster care system have more mental, physical and developmental problems. It is imperative to understand the challenges children entering the foster care system are exposed to. The system works best when children are provided nurturing, and short-term care until they can be placed back home safely or a permanent adoptive family. For many children, however, the stay is longer, with 30% remaining in temporary care for over two years. Staying in the system is detrimental to the child’s well-being. The foster care system is an unsuccessful intervention for children that cultivates development, health and mental issues.
To establish rigour in this qualitative study, a field test will be conducted to identify appropriate guiding questions for the method of choice for the school-approved topic by sending the questions to 3 – 5 experts within the field of foster care and qualitative research. Date for this study will be collected during the interviews using a recording device and field notes. After each interview, the recording will be scribed verbatim to ensure accuracy. In America it is stated that 1 in every 84 children live in foster care circumstances via "Statistics on Foster Care". There is a numerous amount of contrasting children from various backgrounds and ages living within these special housing homes, and many are repeatedly in and out from unstable circumstances. As children grow and mature into the new faces of the world, they face many obstacles and tribulations that will alter their lives. Living in fostering homes is a substantial example and the effects of living in these institutions can truly be great.
One way Maurice William’s faces problems in the foster homes is to have a meeting with every foster parent under their program every three months. In this meeting, all issues are discussed in great length and an appropriate procedure to deal with each specific problem are agreed upon and implemented so that the problems do not come up
from the state, leading to revision of the state agency policies and regulations and also the initiation of the new program to create extra support for child welfare.

When a child is placed into the foster care system they are constantly moved between homes. In the article Foster-Care System Stretched Too Far, a foster mother spoke about a young boy that she adopted after he was forced to stay in "32 different foster homes within a five-year period before she adopted him.” Another young lady named Debbie who was interviewed in the article spoke about being separated from her siblings at the age of five and was consequently placed in 12 different foster homes within a five-year period. Moving between homes can lead stressful situation for the children, often causing them to act out or engage in dangerous
Foster care can be a horrible experience for a child. Not knowing your parents or not being able to see them again can emotionally mess with their mind. They can be depressed and angry and think that they’re not wanted and that there’s no point in life. This can lead them bouncing from house to house just so they can find somewhere
Foster care is something that 400,000 children in the United States, go through. I have personally been through this myself. To improve foster care for children, I have created a website along with an app. The name of both the website and app is Foster To Success. Foster To Success will especially be useful for foster youth, social workers, potential adopters, foster parents, and any additional people, who work with foster youth. But it can also be useful if you are going through a hard time. The app is free and available on iOS devices at the App Store, and on Andriod devices on GooglePlay. If you would like additional features the cost is ninety nine cents. I believe this will help improve foster care and help make it an easier transition for the children.
One of this disadvantages of foster care, is there is an instability in the system. At times social workers are unaware that the placement of the child was ruled in court for the return of the child to their parents. Another disadvantage is that the transitory environment of the foster placements has been a problematic component in the child welfare system (Crosson-Tower, 2014, p. 316). Some children already experience attachment issues prior to removal from their home. These issues will further advance and creating more problems with the child. Since foster care is a temporary environment for the child, children may adjust to this temporary placement only to be removed and either return home or be placed with another temporary family. The life for a child in foster care is much different than any other child’s. While growing up children look up to their father or mother. They aspire to be like them and follow in their footsteps. For the children placed in foster care all they see is that their parents could not take care of them. They will not have the memoires of growing up with their family, but instead memories of the different homes they have been transferred too. Foster parents love and care for all of the children that come into their homes, but it’s hard for the children to accept someone who moves in and out of their lives.
Everywhere across the world, more and more children are being placed into foster care or a welfare type system. Foster care can benefit children or harm them; the effects of foster care differ for every individual. These types of systems often have a major effect on young children’s physiological state. Children entering in foster care are often malnourished and have untreated health problems. A high percentage of children who are placed in these types of systems have mental health, physical health, and/or developmental issue which often originates while the individuals are still in the custody of the biological parents. Children in foster care should be provided with a healthy and nurturing environment which often provides positive long term results. The age of children in a foster care varies across the world, but it is often seen that majority of these children are young (George para. 1). There are more young children in the system because younger children require more adequate care than older children that are already in the system. Placing these children in welfare systems is supposed to be a healing process for them. Although this is supposed to be a healing process, statistics say these children have a negative experience while being in these systems, but this is not always the case. To help reduce the gap that is present there must be a process that is continuously being met by the foster care system. The agency the author works with has proposed different ideas that will help lessen the gap overtime. One way to lessen the gap is to help get family members involved with the reunification process by educating the family members, while promoting health learning environments for clients. Chapter 3 revolves around the individuals involved in the therapeutic process namely the therapist, child and parent. It describes foster care situation and its changeable nature these children have experienced, the need for the foster parent to have “considerable inner strength and maturity…” (pg44) and provide a “high degree of affective attunement”(pg45). The parent’s participation and the benefits are addressed throughout this book. An effective therapist must be compassionate, receptive to attunement and secure in their personal relationships. They consider the parent as a co-therapist, must have the ability to communicate effectively, be a facilitator for change and a role model, particularly in the instance of affective attunement. There is also a warning for any therapist undertaking the intensive deeply emotional work discussed, as the therapist you are in a position of power and so must not become complacent and remain vigilant, constantly monitoring the work delivered with supervision so no harm can be done to the child.
