Reading and Writing are essential aspects of life that influence a person’s character and outlook. For all ages, reading and writing expands the mind and exposes the idea to experience new opportunities. Studies show that youthful minds absorb the most information, so learning major concepts are best at earlier ages. My first memories that I can recall of learning how to read and write began at the early age of five years old. Both subjects were such fascinating concepts at the time and my curiosity craved to know more. Fortunately, now that I’ve grown older, reading and writing remain valuable to me because of the circumstances that occurred throughout my life.
In fact, reading and writing were major part in my life while growing up. My mother has always had a passion for gaining and sharing knowledge, so she chose to stay home with my brother and I to be a part of our knowledge growth. We looked forward to our weekly visits to the library where we intently listened to lively stories being read. My mother always felt that expressing creativity was a necessary part of development, so coloring books and writing journals were regularly scattered around the house. She listened to us as we read beginner books and asked questions in assurance we comprehended. She pushed my brother and I to strive at home, so we would be well prepared when we began school. Reminiscing, I’m thankful she took such an interest in guaranteeing we had our education.
Undoubtedly, my fondness of
I have acquired many literacy opportunities throughout my literacy life my parents, grandparents, and teachers ,I hold them very close to my heart because if it wasn’t for them pushing and encouraging me to read and write I wouldn’t be the literate person I am today. I bear a huge family so there are always many voices going through my head so it wasn’t long until I started speaking, as well as comprehending what all these strange words meant recognizing the words was very difficult before I started practicing them. My parents always encouraged me to read and write in a way no child can resist with toys and candy who could say no to that. Every chance they got to help me read they would read with me. I wasn’t forced to read on my own because I didn’t know how.
Last week we wrote a blog and one of the questions was “How did you learn to read and write?” I found this question interesting because I never had really thought about the moment when I actually learned how to read and write. My mom was the first person to expose me to reading and writing. A popular tactic she did to make sure I was staying engaged was to read aloud stories and make me follow along with her. My mom would read me many different stories like Tarzan, Bambi, Aladdin, Peter Pan, Lion King, The Jungle Book, and Hercules. whatever I wanted to listen and follow along with, she would read with me. This really helped with my want to read. The books contained a lot of adventure, which made it easy as a kid to follow along with. I became to gain an imagination and then all of a sudden reading was easier.
If you couldn’t read or write, how would you tackle your daily life? Being literate is a crucial part of everyone’s life; reading and writing are essential for a person’s success. Every single day, it’s used, whether it’s for an Advanced Placement Language class or reading a billboard as you’re driving past. As a child, I grew up reading on a daily basis and I believe that I am as successful as I am on behalf of it. Countless memories have been created, thanks to the multiple books that have been read and the umpteen amount of papers that I’ve written. Throughout the numerous years of my education, my teachers and parents left a long lasting impact on my reading and writing skills.
Everyone around me was silently sitting, staring down at their laps. Me, on the other hand, would just sit there and stare at a wall, while humming to myself. I never understood why all of my classmates enjoyed reading books. Correction; I actually just did not understand what was wrong with me, and why I did not enjoy reading like all of the other kids did. Reading never sparked my interest due to many reasons, including; being distracted, being laughed at, and the books I was forced to read.
Some of my earliest memories of reading and writing took place in preschool. My former teacher, Mrs. Williams always made reading a fun and new experience which helped encourage us to read. I remember always being excited to read a new book as if I were embarking on a new adventure. My mother also encouraged me to read by reading to my brother and I at bedtime. She also gave us plenty of genres to choose from. Even though my dad did not reach much, my mom was very much interested in books about British crime mysteries. My brother, on the other hand, read anime’ comics and video game instruction pamphlets. Although reading has not been my strongest subject, the subject has always been part of my life.
Learning how to read and write was a challenging task for me as a kid. I believe I couldn’t read until the second grade and that was embarrassing. Being a slow learner made me insecure, which hindered me from building the confidence I needed to succeed and get pass identifying with having a disability. Instead, I was enrolled into a special ed class that I had to leave my regular class to attend. During my special ed class all I could think about was how I couldn’t wait to get back to my regular class so I didn’t have to tell any of my classmate where I was. Therefore, my focus unfortunately wasn’t on learning, like it should have been!
Do you remember the first book you learned to read? Well, I do and it shaped me into the reader I am today. During my early years in elementary school, I began to learn about what reading was and how to read books. I always remember my kindergarten teacher reading “Love you forever” before I would go to nap time everyday. I eventually learned to read my favorite childhood book on my own. However, this was a problem when I didn't want to branch out and read books to better my reading skills. Reading and writing are such and important aspect in our lives that get abused every day. It may sound silly, but as a young child I came in contact with books that impacted me, changed me, and shaped me into the reader and writer I am today.
I learned to read very young. My Grandma was an aspiring author and created a simple learn to read system called “The Look Book”. I loved the ability to read so young. I was a little celebrity in my mom’s group of friends, they would watch her quiz me in awe of my reading comprehension skills when I was just three years old. Someone even contacted my mom about sending me to a special school for gifted children. I wonder how different I would be now if I were sent there; Maybe my math skills would be fantastic. Reading taught me what an escape was at a very young age. The best feeling in the world from a toddler’s perspective is shutting the door and being able to curl up inside my cold sheets for hours, only hearing the sound of the turning page. The ability to visualize the story as if a movie is being played in your head. Reading was my escape. Reading made me feel safe.
Reading and writing are essential to any humans’ way of life. From the ages of 3 to 6 my mom had read to me every night before bedtime. The stories she had read to me ranged from fairytales to Dr. Seuss. The first chapter book I remember reading was in 1st grade. The teacher allowed us access to one book from her bookshelf. I chose Kristy’s Big Day from The Babysitters Club collection. I took such a huge liking to it that I begged my mom to buy me a collection of the books, which now reside at my aunt’s house. It took me the whole summer to a set of 15 books. While, I was in 3rd grade I began to write poetry. I showed my teacher some of the poems and she thought they were so incredible that she wanted me to write more,
Reading and writing are two of the most important tools in my life, because without them I would not have an education. They form the basis of a class; for example, completing a lab in chemistry would not be possible without following a written lab procedure. These two skills are taught at such a young age, and as education advances students must continue to strive to reach a higher level. I can remember in elementary school, we were always pushed to reach the next reading level once we had successfully mastered the one we were on. It was always a competition for my sister and I to be at a higher level, I usually won. Even though I was excelling in reading it was the complete opposite for writing. It is something that has never come easy
Throughout my childhood I loved to read and write so when my teachers would mention writing assignments I would get excited because I had the mentality of always writing something new and interesting. During elementary school I was a smart straight A student and my teachers loved me because they were amazed of my reading and writing skills. And the reason to always being on top of my reading and writing skills was because of my parents they had always influenced me to push myself and exceed. They wanted me to pursue the goals I had because they saw my passion for reading books and for school.
Reading and writing are both important; you can’t have one without the other. They are skills that are increased constantly due to little things that most times are not noticed. Whether it is from a book to a poem, there will always be a way that it helps out your school performance. Reading and writing in general only helps absorb information, and enhance leisure or school related writing tasks. It has also made life itself so much easier because reading and writing are so beneficial for school and for life. How much you read and write today, will somehow affect your future job, family, position, or even your salary.
Why do you think writing became so important in the ancient world? What was gained with the invention of writing? What do you think was lost? (pg.12) The Sumerians were the first people to invent writing as a means of long-distance which was needed for trade. I think writing became so important in the ancient world because that was there main way to communicate. They wrote on things in temples, papyrus, and broken pieces of pottery from ancient Egypt. The hieroglyphic script was one of the oldest writing systems, and was used for recording and communicating information. They used pictures to communicate, not being able to record specific information such as a name of the leader, or events of a battle. Cuneiform was a gain the ancient world got from writing. It became a general purpose writing systems, keeping agricultural records. The writing began as a system of simple symbolic pictures. I do not think anything was lost with the invention of writing. I think it helped the world, because we can learn about the past from them. Writing recorded the lives of a people and the written history of a culture or civilization (Mark 2011).
From an early age I loved to read. At just two years old I would beg my mother to enroll me into school. I watched as my older sister meticulously picked out her outfit each night in preparation for the next school day. At such a young age I somehow knew that this thing called “school” was the answer to something spectacular. My home was chaotic and reading became an escape and helped distract me from the unpleasant family dynamic.
Reading and writing is very essential in one’s lifetime. People always say they don’t like reading and they don’t like writing because it’s boring and they have no interest, but little do they know they do it way more than they think. Everyday you’re reading and writing, it might not be reading from a book or writing an essay but you’re doing it. Most of you’re reading comes from you reading texts messages, reading comments and captions on social media, reading road signs, etc. Most of your writing comes from typing those text messages and comments and captions. Without reading and writing you will basically have the same mental capacity of a rock. You wouldn’t be able to get out the right pronunciation of words correctly and be able to understand thigs people are trying to tell you or write out to you. Other than oxygen and water reading and writing is the most essential part of a human’s life.
