Through the LEAP3 lessons, I have learnt that trust is an important factor for a leader and most leadership required courage and good judgement.
During one of my project, I was tasked to be the manager of a team of 10 other classmates which I have never worked with before. Initially, it was difficult for me to manage the team as we were all strangers.
I chose to lead my team with fairness. I allowed them to pick the tasks they prefer to work on instead of allocating it directly for them as I do not want to force unwanted tasks on them. I placed myself in the position of a member instead of a leader and tried to understand their situation when the tasks were submitted late. I also informed the team to approach me or message me when they need to clarify or have any doubts for their parts. I had also provided an update report after each submission to keep them informed of the project progress.

For example, there was once when we were required to meet up to rush out an important task, a few members came before their event in the afternoon to help to rush out the task and head off later. After their event, they also came back to help the team and we were able to complete the task on time. I have learnt that trust is important and hard to build. It requires a long time effort but when achieved, it can help the individual to achieve many possibilities as the other party will be willing to offer extra mile assistance when they know you need help. We should be respectful and accept each other differences in terms of skills, values, opinions, views,
Doing a group project is a challenge because some members are not well committed to the work. I am going to use my leadership skills to motivate all members to participate equally
The leader must be sure to take the group dynamics into consideration. It is important to make everyone involved feel that their needs are important. For the project to be a success, everyone participating must feel as if they are contributing and that they are being valued equally.
A team leader faces many challenges such as co-ordinating a team to achieve a set goal or objective. Every team is created for a purpose, and each one must succeed in meeting objectives. Learning how to get the best out of a team is really the key to making things work. Other factors and challenges that may affect a team leader include budgets, schedules, project timelines, and complaints or bad relationships with underlings. Balancing a series of tasks and roles is really what being a leader is all about, so the most successful leaders will have a dynamic blend of diplomatic skills. Leaders know how to motivate "the troops", and they also know how to quiet down and relate one-to-one when that sort of approach is needed. The best way to become a
I have shown leadership many times while working in a group project or in an activity. I assign parts of the project to others and myself and share my ideas in the group. I try my very best to include everyone and try to incorporate their brilliant ideas in the project or activity as well. I make sure that everyone has a contribution
I find that the challenges of working together in an established team can be that everyone can become quite self absorbed in their own workload and this can result in conflict when the team sent work together as a whole or lose sight of their shared objectives and goals. It can be difficult to maintain motivation and enthusiasm and not everyone may be on the same page at the same time. I genuinely believe that I am lucky as I work in a team where we are open and honest enough to thrash out any issues quickly and as they arise. We also recognise each other’s own skills and abilities and use each other’s strengths to ensure that our team performs to a high standard.
When the other team members strayed from their position, or were confused on the task at hand, I was there to get them back on track and productive once again. For our specific scenario, we had to decide upon a database to use. Each of us researched a different database, and compared results as a group. When two members had begun to fight over which database seemed most beneficial, I stepped in and proposed that we logically examine each database together and vote on a final decision. Under my leadership, and the amazing capabilities of every student on the team, we thoroughly impressed the executives, receiving honors for our work.
Another team experience came during my first year of undergraduate studies. In this experience, I had the opportunity to work for Texas Tech under one of my professors. The task that I was assigned with was to help with the transition of one online class system to another. Overall, there was a lot of work that had to be done in order to meet the specified deadlines. Personally, I was put in charge of creating two classes in the new format of Blackboard that the university was planning to switch to. With all of the work that had to be done for each class, the professor made specific students in charge of certain classes and then gave each person in charge a team of other students to help the leader with the class. As a team leader, I was responsible for delegating certain objectives out to the rest of the team, while also performing my own tasks. Each task had a concrete deadline to meet and it was crucial that I meet all set deadlines if I expected the rest of my team to meet their deadlines. This helped to hold everyone accountable because if one member of the team slacked, then it gave a bad look to the team as a whole. Furthermore, we had a peer review system put in place
Trust is the most important factor in the civilian-military relationship. Military expertise, honorable service, Esprit de Corps and stewardship of the army are all essential components in the Army professions of arms, however, trust as a starting point, outweighs all other actions. This is plainly stated in ADRP 1 The Army Profession “Trust is the bedrock upon which the United States Army grounds its relationship with the American people. Trust reflects the confidence and faith that the American people have in the Army to effectively and ethically serve the Nation, while resting assured that the Army poses no threat to them” (pg. 2-1).
All team members will respect the ideas and views of the other members even if there is disagreement. Team members will encourage each other and help each other along through the course so that the end goal can be achieved.
This week explored and learned that there are desirable leadership traits to acquire, that becoming a leader can be a conscious process and that being a leader also means to owe respect and have a responsibility to others.
The area of team leadership attracts a lot of attention in the modern world because of the need to assemble and deploy diverse teams for the completion of projects. The future of many corporations relies more and more on the kind of team leadership they have for their projects. This paper explores a number of facets that constitute effective team leadership.
A team leader’s role is to instruct a group of people, providing directions and guidance to the team in order to ensure the completion of tasks. A good team leader will motivate and inspire his team, solving problems and empowering others to do the same. A team leader should lead by example and be able to ensure the group work well together in order to promote team spirit. They should ensure that each member of the team receives the correct training in order to perform their duties. Each individual in the team brings their own skills and specialisms to the group. A good team
The group assessment in this unit put together four motivated members that wanted to create quality work. Interestingly, it also included for the first time, in my many team assessments, an additional strong-minded member that wished to lead the group. Sousa & van Dierendonck (2015, p. 15) propose, that sharing leadership duties requires humility from the group leaders to allow others to take responsibility for the task whilst remaining willing to step in and lead when needed. DuBrin (2016, p.27) further states that good team members have the courage to challenge the direction the task is taking and therefore showing leadership within the group. This was an important learning activity for myself as I moved from initial apprehension of joint leadership, to increasingly appreciating the strengths of other team members and the value this added.
Supporting the team is very important and is usually what helps keep a team together. Always be open-minded and ready to listen to someone else's ideas not just your own. All team members should not only support each other, but also each other’s ideas. This also leads to opportunities for the whole team. Providing opportunities for development is an important aspect in a successful team. Always talk among the group about any issues. If the problems are out in the open they can be taken care of. This will also help in future issues.
Balance: In this project before assigning of the task we have discussed and identified the interest area and technical capabilities of each member to perform the task. we have enlisted the activities and made a responsibility matrix chart and traced the team members with tasks. to perform some activities we created a sub team within team, where a sub team leader was accountable of deliverables and other team members assisting sub team leader to complete the activity. We did periodic project performance review to monitor project
