1. Attend a Gem & Mineral Show such as the one sponsored by the Indian Mounds Rock and Mineral Club at Rogers Plaza on April 9-11. Hours are 9:30am-9pm Thursday and Friday, till 7pm on Sat. Plan at least 1 hour to browse through. Only bring what you can afford to spend (and think Christmas gifts).
a. How did you apply knowledge you’ve learned in this geology class while you toured the show?
I used my knowledge from class when I was looking at all the different rocks and minerals. I knew the difference between the sedimentary, metamorphic and the igneous rocks. The Gem Show was much more interesting because I knew what I was looking at. It gave the Show a whole new meaning and a better understanding of how wonderful every rock and mineral really are.
b. Describe at least one new thing about minerals or rocks or fossils you learned from the show.
One of the new things I learned was that many of the rocks and minerals I was looking at come from either Mexico or Arizona. I learned from the sells lady at the table I was looking at that Arizona is know as one of the richest rock and mineral zones in the world. I found that to be pretty cool. The woman also said you will never see anything more beautiful then an Arizona skyline with all the rocks. I want to go visit Arizona now. ☺
c. What was the most interesting exhibit/activity? Why was it interesting to you? (Please make this different than the answer to the previous question.)
The activity I love to do most is buying a
I was interested and delighted to learn about all the different civilizations we as a class went over
One summer my parents informed my brother Ben and I we were going on a trip to Yellowstone National Park. I had never been so excited for anything in my life. I had a passion and love for nature, and being that Yellowstone had some of the most beautiful and interesting geological features on Earth, I knew I would have a blast. They said we would be going in a few weeks, and I literally couldn’t wait. I kept asking questions upon questions, and finally, my dad just got annoyed. “Go research it, Juliette.” He said. “The internet will know more than I do.” I took his advice and went to research Yellowstone.
From reading and watching the articles and video, I learned a lot about electricity. Their purposes were different but still had a connection which helped me learn more and more about my topic. Since they were all diverse within the same topic, I got to learn not just about how electricity works, but how different solutions can form energy and how different, everyday things can make
Informal learning has taught me a lot more things about the world and why things happen. It’s where I’ve learnt most of my general knowledge. I can work out why things happen due to things that are related to it. An example is me discovering that my eyelid primer that I use for my eye-shadow and eye make-up is sticky. Because it is sticky, the powder will stick to it which is why it stays on for extended periods of time. Using this logic, it can also work for my powder foundation if I put my eye shadow primer on my face after my foundation so then my powder will stick to it and make
Which among the learning theories provided you with new information? How would you apply this in your practice?
Without any way to use up free time, Jeannette and Brian took it upon themselves to find things to do. All throughout the time that the family lived in the arid areas such as Arizona and Nevada the two of them spent their free time exploring in the desert. The pair were fascinated by the shedded snake skins and animal carcasses and remains that they would find in the desert. However playing around with carrion was not the only thing that they liked to do. The two of them, especially Jeannette loved to collect geodes and minerals, she loved geology. The pair couldn't do this if it weren't for the freedom that they had. Freedom can give you knowledge and curiosity. Jeannette had a great interest and curiosity in geology that originated from her explorations into the desert. The desert also awarded immense knowledge for her. The desert taught them things that they couldn't learn at school or anywhere else. It taught them about many things both good and bad. The desert gave Jeannette both the knowledge and especially the curiosity that is needed to
I learned more in depth the meaning of physical and human characters of a location. Before embarking on this project
As I was walking around the museum, I was shocked and in complete desire when me and my friends walked into a large circle roof type architecture. It was absolutely amazing to be inside and under it. Finally, we reached our destination which was the Mummy exhibit and were impressed with what they had on site.
Visiting the Mitchell Museum of the American Indian was a great experience. At first walking into the museum we found there to be many artifacts and examples of the Indians used in their daily lives. Walking around the museum it was nice to see all the items we spoke and read about in class. My first impressions were that the museum would be born but seeing and reading about something is very different and being able to capture the real beauty of Indian lives was a great experience.
Looking through the exhibits some of the information brought forward was quite interesting. Learning what clothing was worn throughout previous years was very interesting. Seeing
Visiting the Mitchell Museum of the American Indian was a terrific experience. Seeing the past visually was amazing because I felt that reading the textbook and listening to lectures from the professor were good, but seeing the artifacts brought everything to life. My first impression being at the Mitchell Museum was how the professor presented the information in class was different from seeing pictures of the Indians. Just reading text or listening to a lecture makes it extremely hard to realize how they described the way they really looked and their appearance. Seeing the exhibit taught me more about the Pueblos and the Plains Indians. Those two groups were in They Made Us Many Promises and this gave me the opportunity to learn more about them.
The exhibit that I viewed at the Philadelphia Museum of Art was one about European Art between the years 1100-1500. This was a series of paintings, sculptures, architecture, and tapestry of the Medieval and Early Renaissance as well as objects from the Middle East. This exhibit was an important part of the history of the Philadelphia Museum of Art because for the first time, Italian, Spanish, and Northern European paintings from the John G. Johnson collection were shown. It gave me a good idea of what the paintings were like in these four centuries and reflected ideas of both the east and the west.
Two out of the four exhibits were very interesting to me. The life science exhibit had
The Natural History Museum of Utah opened the doors of it’s new, highly acclaimed collections in 2011. It is roundly considered to be one of the best museums of its kind in the whole country. Just outside its doors you will find the more than one hundred acres of gardens and trails that make up the Red Butte Garden and Arboretum natural area. This unspoiled stretch of Wasatch foothills is an excellent place to quietly commune with nature, unless you happen to visit during the outdoor concert series, which attracts top national and
Within the layers of rock that form the Grand Canyon, a story is tolled of its own creation, a story that also gives us a great deal of understanding of the geological progress of the world to its present state.
