Technology has changed a lot over the past few years. People have changed because of how much technology has evolved. Technology has changed over time because humans get smarter over time, people mess around with things to see if they work or not, and people keep trying on their projects even if they fail because eventually they will figure it out.

We live in a time where technology is constantly advancing, and the media is in every aspect of the typical American’s life. Our parents lived during a time without cell phones or televisions in their homes, their connection to the media was through books, magazines, newspapers, and the radio. As a twenty year old in 2016, I've always had a television, computer, and cell phone in my home, so my connection to the media was though what was on television, movies, video games, music, and many different things on the internet. Growing up I spent a lot of time playing outside and technology wasn’t something that had to be limited because it wasn’t a problem until I was a teenager. Now days it’s rare to come across a child who doesn’t have their own iPad, old smartphone, or a cell phone that is in service. Techno-optimist or techno-pessimist? That is the question. Technology throughout time has no doubt changed our way of life. Travelling to destinations quicker, curing new diseases, or figuring out how to cease a wide famine are examples of how technology has made advances over time. The solutions that scientists create spark a tool that others cannot live without. But what if these technologies bring out negative effects rather than their desired purpose? Sometimes, innovators create new inventions that bring unintended consequences. It could range from less communication face to face, side effects from new medicines, or pollute the earth’s atmosphere.

I agree, technology such as telephones has made a tremendous impact throughout the last 100 plus years. Having telephones or other type of technology devices can be very useful to communicate with others; however, most people rely on their telephones quite often, it can be very distracting and difficult to concentrate on other things around them, for instance, nobody barely sits at the dinner table to talk about their day, their mostly on their phones or watching television.

In this digital age, technology is everywhere. The continuing growth of technology made people’s lives become too complacent and lethargic. Every human being grasp the advantages of technology in pursuit of doing things fast and easy. What exactly is technology? The word technology can describe different type of electronics and machinery today such as microwave, television, cars, computers and even manufacturing cables. The internet, which is a vital part of technology, makes any thing easily accessible and offers convenience through the use of social media. According to Ventola, social media is referred to as “Internet-based tools that allow individuals and communities to gather and communicate; to share information, ideas, personal messages, images, and other content; and, in some cases, to collaborate with other users in real time” (Ventola, 2014, p. 491). Even though technology can be educational and let people stay connected with family and friends, it causes social isolation for people who are having difficulty to disengage or being dependent on technology’s advancement. The use of technology like the internet and devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops and computers can negatively impact people psychologically and physically because it can damage social skills development, inhibits social interaction, and it enticed people to waste time.

In our present society, people cannot deny that the changes in this world have been tied to the advancement of the technology. It has evolved with this society so deeply where such conveniences are no longer luxuries but rather necessities. Unfortunately, the most affected group of people from the developed technology is the younger age people (Subrahmanyam, 2000). In the past, children were more lively and active: playing outdoors, running around, climbing trees and remaining active rather than watching television and playing video game and computer. The idea was that a group is stronger and more profitable than one person acting alone. Each tribe or gathering of individuals working together is considered a society. But, if all societies were thriving entities, then we would not know the hardships that have repeated throughout history, such as, poverty and famine.
