l. Introduction In the Collins Dictionary of medicine, Youngson describes a fetus as , “ The developing individual form about the eighth or tenth week of life in the womb until the time of birth. The fetus has all the recognizable external characteristics of a human being.” As mentioned, a fetus is similar like a human who breathes and grows with the time, people do not have the right to take that life away. People are judgmental and closed-minded very often so they conclude, if a life does not appear human then it is not human so they decide to take the life of that fetus who can change the world someday. The Harvard Medical School exactly defines abortion as it “..is the removal of pregnancy tissue..”, if a woman is worried about …show more content…
With that, the definition of a life has definitely changed thus people do not consider a fetus or in the rights of a fetus. Most people who do not consider as a form of a human being are either illiterate who follow ancient traditions or either ignorant who live their life on false principles. People who abort their fetus disregarding the situations, they pay doctors and surgeon such high wage in order to end the life of a fetus. “ Roughly, one-half of all abortions are done during the first 8 weeks and about 88% during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.” Instead of saving a life of a fetus, allowing it to become a living child and if they do not wish to keep it, they can make a family who cannot have children happen, women do not let the fetus live. Women are willing to endure guilt of taking a life of a fetus, instead of doing a good deed of giving life to fetus as a favor.
ll. Literature Review It is comprehensible people hold differing perspectives and beliefs of abortion which is ending the life of a fetus before it is born and those perspectives and beliefs originate from cultures and ethics. In the Culture Wars, “... culture war.. ..used by certain social conservatives to describe a heated clash between two radically different and incompatible conceptions of how Americans should order their civil society….a conflict between values considered “traditional” or “conservative” and those
Some things are hard to achieve and sometimes they are somewhat wrong, which takes time to get to the main point. In past decades there have been many controversial issues on equal rights and freedoms etc. Abortion rights are one of the issue that has been around since 1800’s. It came to public’s eye after many deaths among women occurred caused by complication and illegal abortion. Decline in birth rates in late 1800’s was also the reason to ban abortion. By the end of 19th century in 1967 abortion was illegal in all U.S. States. It was considered a crime. Still many people were and are against abortion because thinking that abortion is taking away life of baby and is equal to committing murder. Some people are with abortion because
The population that is skeptical of the approval of abortion is primarily concerned about the fetus. Fetal rights are primarily used to argue against the fact that while women have the right to abort, fetuses also have the right to life. The term originated after Roe v. Wade as a defense for fetal life, following the Court rule that a fetus is not a person under the fourteenth amendment (Fetal Rights 1). However, some pro-choice activists argue that fetal rights should not even exist. According to the Gale Encyclopedia of American Law, “Historically, under both English common law and U.S. law, the fetus has not been recognized as a person with full rights. Instead, legal rights have centered on the mother, with the fetus treated as a part of
Abortion is a decision every person should decide for themselves. The major arguments against abortion are how a fetus is a person; a fetus has rights; and it is morally impermissible to take a life. Many consider abortion to be equivalent to murder. However, a fetus is not a person. There are important traits one most hold to be a person, 1) self-awareness, one must be able to make decisions regarding themselves 2) being able to converse with others and hold a relationship 3) consciousness, one must be able to make rational decisions and have thought (Warren). On important aspect of being person is the ability to be aware of its surroundings and decision making. Being a pregnant is not a situation everyone gets to experience and the
According to Webster Dictionary, abortion is “the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus”. There are two sides when it comes to abortion: pro-life and pro-choice. Pro-life supporters are usually religious individuals, individuals who believe it is a kind of murder, and/or people who believe in the sanctity of life. Pro-choice supporters are normally individuals who believe a woman has the right to her own body, it is not a form of murder, and some individuals believe that there are limits. The main point of disagreement between both of these sides is whether an embryo/ fetus is a human so should it be legal or illegal and is it immoral?
Abortion is the expulsion of the products of conception before the embryo or fetus is viable. If anything happens before the 28th week of a pregnancy, it is known as an abortion. Most people do not get the whole picture about abortions and how they work and why they should be able to happen. If the pregnancy risked the mother’s life, would you still have the child? This is why abortions should be allowed because of serious situations like this. No other person can tell you what to do with your body so why would you tell someone to have a child they do not want? Think about it. If you really thought about the situation at hand, you would comprehend the other point of view we are trying to make. Just because certain people view abortions as something that is against humanity doesn’t mean that state laws should make it illegal.
Abortion is a very controversial topic, and has been for many decades in the United States. Ever since the Supreme Court Case: Roe vs. Wade in 1973, an intense battle has raged forth. People who are against abortion are called Pro-Life; people who support abortion are Pro-Choice. The two main questions people try to answer on this issue are “Is the fetus a human being or not?” and “What is the definition of life?” According to Webster’s New World Dictionary, the definition of fetus is “The unborn young, in humans, from about the eighth week after conception until birth.” (“Agnes,”) Pro-Choice supporters say that the fetus is not a human being and that
In America, there are several of controversial topics that are heavily debated amongst the uneducated and the academic community. These topics range from: the war on terror, drug legalization, death penalty, border fence, legalization of gay marriages and abortion. One topic that cannot be overlooked is abortion! Even Presidential candidates often use these controversial topics, such as abortion, to their advantage to encourage people to vote for them in the upcoming elections. Ultimately, when it comes to abortions, one has to deal with the fact that they are renouncing religious principles and committing murder. First, it is important to establish background information on the two opposing views.
For recent years, people start to deny abortion and stated it as cruel and murder. While it does involve remove fetus or embryo from the mother and kill the baby before it was born, it might not be the worst thing that can happen to the baby. Most people who chose abortion is either can’t afford to have a kid or unable to take care of them. It was one of the case, while other concern about their right as a person. Some might say the baby have right to live, while others believe the mother have right for herself to do what she want to her body. The debate on abortion is not about who right, but it about the consequences of their action.
Abortion as we all know, is a controversial topic that has been known to debate on whether it should be legal or illegal. Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. This particular issue goes way back and even though it is legal now in some places it is still being debated on. Those individuals who are taking sides are either on the pro-choice side or pro-life. Pro-choice being that you agree with a women’s life to have an abortion and pro-life that your against this belief. Now, this paper will briefly go over the overall definition of abortion and how it began, then explain how it was debated and legalized in some states, and finally why it is still debated and why there is no common ground. We always seem hear both sides on abortion whether it’s being against or for it both sides intentions are overlooked.
Today, people have the right to voice their thoughts regarding a topic, rather they’re different or alike, creating a new philosophy about it, or supporting the traditional belief. In regards to the topic, Abortion has been a subject of controversial matters. Some believing they have the right to do such an act while others would absolutely disagree. Before supporting such an act or not, we typically take into consideration the goods and bads of the action first. While taking a life might be one of the more foreseeable cons of the act, there are good outcomes as-well. Such as, not having said child endure hardship during their life. That child being the difference between a mother having the means to support herself or not. Lastly, that child doesn 't have to suffer more due to the condition of that unprepared parent. No child should be brought into this world only to live a short life and meet the same fate as they would have if they have been aborted. On the other hand, I side with those who agree. Not to be referred to as a “baby killer” but as someone who has an idea of the consequences of copulation, rather it 's intended or in some cases unintended.

Furthermore, many people will argue that you are killing a human when getting an abortion. However, the truth is, that the baby is not really considered a human to many doctors. "They see abortion as the killing of an unborn child and a denial of the basic right to life that the already-born enjoy."(Williams 11). Many people see it as the mother killing a baby that is not born yet and ending someone's life. Although, in the book it gives examples about how the embryo is not really a living person so it should not be accounted as one. "Since it is unable to survive outside of the womb, they argue that the embryo should not be seen as a being that is separate from the mother's body."(Williams 12) The embryo should not be seen as human being because it is stated not be seen as anything other than the mother.
I agree completely that the fetus, or the human embryo, is in fact a living being. Moreover, human embryo is the “same” as human beings except, the difference between these two is that the embryo is not a full human person because the fetus is not fully developed yet. Every new life, whether it be animal or human, begins at conception. With this being said, no matter what the circumstances of conception, no matter how far along in the pregnancy, abortion, in my opinion, always ends the life of an individual human being.
* Fetus as Lump of Tissue - Beause the fetus is entirely dependant on its mother for support, it is not really a living entity, but merely a lump of tissue that belongs to the mother. Therefore, the fetus has no human rights, and the
Abortion has been around since a lot of years in every inhabited corner of the globe. It has always been accepted as a means to prevent the suffering of both woman and potential child. It has been practiced widely in every society for many reasons including famine, war, poverty, overpopulation, or simply because a woman felt she was not ready for a child (Whitney 40). No one ever questioned a woman’s right to this procedure till the 1800’s. During this era of change people began to turn their attention in a new direction, the fetus. They began to protest abortion as cruel, inhumane, and murderous. Abortionists who were once revered and depended upon were scorned and threatened. Though abortions still happened with regularity, they were kept silent and seen as a matter of shame. “Over the next hundred years, public sentiment for fetus continued to rise until the inevitable happened in America during the early 40’s; Abortion was made illegal.” (Cohen 17). The pro-life supporters had succeeded in saving the lives of innocent babies who would have been slaughtered for the convenience of selfish, ignorant and irresponsible women. This new law had made women actually settle down and raise families or give birth to beautiful children. We all know that, it has been proven time to time throughout history that the human spirit will not allow prohibition. Something inside us feels the need to strike out at that, which restrains us and holds us from the
