Adolf Hitler negatively affected millions of people by putting his plan to get rid of Jews into action. They were taken, killed, starved, and put into forced labor during the era of the Holocaust. As horrific things were happening to the Jews in Amsterdam, Anne frank and her family were hidden in the secret annex, for what they thought would be a couple months. However, they did not know that 8 people would be crammed in the small annex for 25 months, praying that they would make it until they were liberated. There were many historical events involving the Jews that took place outside the secret annex, but they still affected the mood and behavior of the characters in the drama.
The mood of the characters has been directly affected because of the historical events that take place throughout the story. Mrs. Frank is feeling very down about the situation involving the war, when she states, “Think of the thousands dying in the war, every day. Think of the people in concentration camps.” (Goodrich, Hackett, 164) Whenever Mrs. Frank thinks negatively about the situation, Anne gets very frustrated with her. She does not believe that anyone should be thinking with a fixed mindset at a time like this. She shows how she is feeling by saying, “But look at us… if we begin thinking of all the horror in the world, we’re lost! We’re trying to hold onto some kind of ideals… when everything… ideals, hopes… everything, are being destroyed! It isn’t our fault that the world is in such a mess!” (Goodrich, Hackett, 164) This shows how frustrated Anne gets when her mother speaks negatively about the war. She is not afraid to speak her mind when she is having these strong emotions. There was a clear change in the mood of the story, because Anne was so upset with her mother. Before she had this change in emotion, she was with everyone else celebrating with the cake that Miep had brought them. There are many historical events that affect the mood of the characters, but there are also some that can play a role on the behavior of the characters.
In addition to mood, behavior has also been severely affected from the historical events in the story. There are changes in actions, and sometimes emotion. There was recently a robbery from
