Ancient Egypt is one of the greatest ancient civilizations in the world. It is the home to the great River Nile and the sun god, Amon-Ra. In this barren landscape, where sand reigns supreme, a small group of people built a lasting civilization that would be remembered for all time. From pyramids, to great medical achievements, jaw- dropping temples seen like nowhere else, and a hierarchal structure of power, these people built a nation in the desert. Ancient Egypt was known for lots and lots of things but they are some major characteristics that made it as great as it was. In the following essay, the main characteristics of this civilization will be outlined and explained on what made this a great and lasting civilization that is still talked about to this day.
No one can think of Egypt without picturing its magnificent architecture. Although it is long gone, its whispers still echo from the sand dunes and into our lives. If I had to say one thing ancient Egyptians were famous for it was that they built tremendous pyramids and had a great amount of skill. Some pyramids still exist and it is amazing how they built them and are still standing today. In the civilization of Ancient Egypt, there were six periods which were the Pre-dynastic period, Old Kingdom, the 1st Intermediate period, the Middle Kingdom, the 2nd Intermediate period, and New Kingdom (TimeMaps). The Pre-dynastic period began in 3500-3000 BC and led to the unified group of Egypt as a community. The Old Kingdom began in 2650 which was around the time that the Great Pyramids of Giza were being built. A man named Narmer was the founder of the 1st dynasty of Ancient Egypt and was looked at as a god. Narmer was mainly known for his hieroglyphic writing and his monuments. Even in todays world, hieroglyphics are used to decode language and is basically the language for the ancient Egyptian
Ancient Egypt is such an interesting and amazing society to study due to the various factors that allowed the city and population to thrive. The culture, quite different to other cultures around the world in ancient times, developed quite unique traditions, technologies and ideas. Small features of this society including aligning the 4 corners of the pyramids and being able to divide the year into 365 days makes it truly fascinating, The main reason that this society was able to thrive and be successful can be attributed to the great Nile River. Due to this people were able to settle which lead to the creation of a surplus, which could be sustained for around 2000 years.
For more than 2000 years, egypt was one of the richest and most civilized lands in the ancient world. Much of what we know about this great civilization has been learned from its art and architecture. In particular, the ruins of tombs and temples have provided a valuable record of Egyptian life.

The pyramids were used as royal tombs for their past pharaohs. Another achievement that they are widely known for is the Great Sphinx of Giza. They built these sphinxes to protect the tombs of their past pharaohs. The Egyptians also invented the calendar that we still use as of today. The Egyptians main system of writing was called hieroglyphics. Then later on they stopped using hieroglyphics and they started using demonic script because hieroglyphics took too much time to write.
