The Mid-West Region

The Mid West region is about 200 km north of Perth and surrounding by growing economic regions. The Mid West region is a central point between the Pilbara, Kimberley. Although traditionally Mid West is well known for agricultural and fishery products, the Mid West region could able to attract wide range investment for varied sectors (REMPLAN 2015). However, the mining industry is still becoming an economic driver of the region.

The Greater Geraldton is a super town in the Mid West region, which was formed as an amalgamation of the City of Geraldton and the Shire of Greenough in 2007 and then shire of Mullewa in 2011. As a regional …show more content…

i) Mining
The Mid West well known as rich natural resources region with large mining industries in Western Australia. The resources of the region include nickel, gold, oil and gas, mineral sands, copper, zinc and lead concentrate, talc, garnet and iron ore. The total value of mineral products is approximately $3.0 billion and the Mid West become the State’s fourth largest mining region of production value after the Pilbara, Goldfields Esperance and Peel regions. Gold is the highest value of mineral commodity with total $925 million in 2012. However, Gold is not processed in the Mid West region. Climate change would increase temperatures and reduce rainfall. It would have a major impact for the region, especially in the farming, fishing and tourism industries, which become main employment generators in the region.
