Violent Video Game Effects In today’s world, violence has become a very adamant problem. Violence is acting in intent to hurt, harm, apply physical force or even kill someone or something. Some people have said that the rise of violence is due to the increased violence in video games. This question has been up for debate for a long time and there still is not enough evidence to prove that it does. Nevertheless, the problem is not video games but instead it is the people who play them. Violent video games affect human behavior because they make the person who is playing the game think its reality and not just a game, being exposed to the graphic depictions can lead to a decrease in empathy and sensitivity, and could lead to an increase in aggression and anger problems. The origin of video games goes back over 50 years and the very first video game was tennis for two created by William Higinbotham. The very first controversial video game was Death Race in 1976, the main objective of the game was to drive a car of your choice into these little stick like characters which resulted in their death, and then the dead stick like characters were then replaced with tombstones. “It was the first video game to inspire a great deal of protest and controversy in the United States.” Death Race encouraged death and violence and this was only the beginning of a huge list of controversial video games.
